YouTube autoplay is on...but it isn't

Post by Daehawk »

No I dont want to switch thanks.

Just a strange issue where Ill middle click to open YT vids in news tabs but when I go to those tabs they start playing the video on their own. Its not supposed to do that. The autoplay slider is set to OFF and yet every tab will auto play the video as soon as I open the tab.

This is after all updates and a few restarts and shutdowns. Still doing it.

What you are describing has nothing to do with Youtube Autoplay slider. The slider simply controls whether or not the next video starts playing when the one you are watching is finished. Whether or not a video starts automatically playing in a browser tab is (probably) controlled by the browser.

I've never seen it where it DOESN'T do that. As soon as the tab gains focus, the video starts playing.

If you're using Firefox, you should be able to disable video and audio autoplay (including Youtube videos) by simply doing this:

  1. Open the Mozilla Firefox Web Browser.
  2. Click on the 3 bar hamburger menu in the upper right corner and select "Settings".
  3. In the left side pane make sure you are on the "Privacy & Security" tab.
  4. Scroll down to the "Permissions" section, and click on the Autoplay "Settings…" button.
  5. In the dialog box that opens click on the "Default For All Websites" drop down, then select "Block Audio and Video".
  6. Click on "Save Changes".
