Innocent until proven guilty, or until we hit 10 pages?
Our first 10 page thread has been locked. I understood that this spiffy new forum software would allow threads to go beyond 10 pages, perhaps beyond the infinite?
So wassup wit dat? Do we need this tradition?
Admittedly, it was a bad thread, with lots of negative energy and hostility. It needed to die. But it was trying to turn over a new leaf at the end.

It may have been trying to turn over a new leaf, but it had done so several times before - each time turned back into jabbing at peoples' bruised feelings with pointed sticks. Its original purpose had run its course, and the follow-up conversation had run its own. All it was doing was providing the barbeque pit for more fires. It just needed to go away.

Yes, but it that didn't appear to be going so well. The thread is discussed out. It was locked because of that, not because of the 10 page limit. But it was trying to turn over a new leaf at the end.
I should add, if people actually try to make a go of it here, that's fine. If any of that angst spills over, though, this will be locked. Time to put that stuff to bed.

Actually, I think he misunerstood your question. I did, too. As to ten pages - we aren't 100% sure. We were just talking about it last night and have a few things to check before we make a final decision on that.Tareeq wrote:That's cool with me PD. The question wasn't about that thread, which no one will remember in two weeks, but about the 10 page limit, and whether it's carried over.
And with all due respect, you're dodging my question.

Well, about that 10 page limit, I've seen phpBB threads with over 100 pages, I think.
Locking at 10 does add to readability though, I think.

There are some threads, like the desktop thread, or the posting of funny pictures on the internet that I dont mind going past 10 pages. But yeah, Im never going to read 10 pages of written posts unless it starts "Dear Penthouse" (and even that would be better if it were just a slide show of pictures).
