Um...am I screwed? (Operation Flashpoint)

Post by DocDarm »

So, I moved to Florida. I didn't keep any gameboxes. I just have the CD and Jewel case for Operation Flashpoint. Decided to finally play it (never got past the first few missions back when I had a job). Now that I'm blissfully unemployed and entertaining job offers, I thought I'd while away the rest of the day playing this classic.

I need the CD key. The key is not imprinted on the CD or the jewel case. Does this mean I should just throw the game away? Is it totally useless now?

IIRC it's on the manual.

What version? I have it at home.

EDIT: Oh yeah, without the key you're screwed. There may be some keygen numbers out there but I think OFP had a novel antipiracy thing to fight keygen numbers.

My CD key is printed on the manual. If you still have it, check there.

Failing that...you CAN find the game for like $10. Totally worth it. Plus, it might be the gold/patched addition. Applying patches for the game was always a nightmare after a fresh install.

No, no box or manual. Just the jewel case and CD. It's the original version "Operation Flashpoint, Cold war crisis" PC CDROM. I'm sure I bought it when it was new (ie $49.95 + tax).

I guess I'll just stick to Battlefield 2. If anyone wants an original, mint CD with jewelcase, let me know.

An updated version of it with a new engine is also coming out sometime around soon (q4 2005) - Armed Assault

I never played it since I was new to tactical games and the demo was too complicated for me back then. Retried the demo since Ive now cut my teeth with GR, Swat and RvS and enjoyed it (Been playing JointOps and want some foot soldier and vehicle combat in SP, not just MP). Stumbled across ArmA while looking up info on OFP.

I suspect Armed Assault is a mix of the Xbox code and an earlier attempt at OFP 2. It includes a new campaign along with that of the first title and expansions.

The real sequel is slated for sometime 06. The developers have compared it to Morrowind, each theater is a full world with civilians, towns, villages, fauna and wildlife. Its no longer so linear, the war runs in the background while you select dynamically generated missions.

any recent info about this? last i heard, there was a falling out between bis and the pub and an official sequel is nearly dead, although from what i read, AA is close to the idea.

i was on the polling list for OpF2 and some of the ideas it used sounded great.

Armed assault is not operation flashpoint 2. Codemasters owns the rights to that name.

I'm posting this reply at this time since a new update on the game progress has been released. You guys will probably be very interested. that and the topic kinda came up in the mod thread i started over in general gaming.

Bohemia Interactive stuidios http://www.bistudio.com is producing armed assault which is an entirely new game engine, not a mixh of xbox elite code. The screenshots hold that up too.

BIS is currently still looking for a publisher for Armed Assault which is 100% internally developed and won't be released half assed due to a half assed publisher.

Operation Flashpoint 2 will be a codemasters title and is not by BIS, the creators of the origional operation flahspoint.

ArmA features a new engine with a fresh modern setting and focuses on freedom of action and immersive complex environments, blended with a unique touch of total simulation, based on a technology used to train real soldiers around the world, including U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Army and Australian Defense Forces.

"We aim to again deliver the ultimate military simulation for PC, improving the successful gameplay formula of our debut PC game release Operation Flashpoint. It's refreshing for us to focus again on PC game development after years spent working on the Xbox platform and we work hard to make sure not to disappoint the expectations of the great community that built around Operation Flashpoint with this new game." explains Marek Spanel, director and co-founder of Bohemia Interactive.

In ArmA, players will be able to seamlessly explore massive environments (over 200 sq. kilometres) and combat intelligent enemies that try to out think and outmaneuver you. Progress Update

Bohemia Interactive are delighted to announce that Viktor Bocan, the lead mission designer of Operation Flashpoint and the Resistance expansion has rejoined the team to oversee the ArmA project: "When I was asked to participate in finishing the ArmA project I had absolutely no idea how far it had progressed in the past few months. Now it's not just an "extension" or something; the game has become a real successor to Operation Flashpoint in terms of scale, detail and possibilities". says Viktor Bocan.

Development of Armed Assault (ArmA) is progressing rapidly and Bohemia Interactive is currently looking for a publisher. Armed Assault is now planned to be released in H1 2006.
