75 words or less
Last Sunday's Globe ran a story about marijuana decriminalization initiatives in South Shore communities, and invited readers to express our opinions via e-mail in 75 words or less. This being one of the few issues I care about strongly, I took the challenge, and submitted the following letter, which will run in this Sunday's South edition.
-----------------------------
Ask any teen how difficult it is to find marijuana, then tell me with a straight face that criminalizing it keeps it away from young people. If you're serious about controlling drug use, legalize it, regulate its sale, and use the resulting tax windfall for meaningful drug education and treatment. As in the 1920s, prohibition only feeds a black market, wastes enforcement resources, and destroys respect for the law. Marijuana laws have harmed far more lives than the comparatively benign drug they so ineffectively prohibit.
-----------------------------
It was an interesting challenge, boiling my opinion down that far. Give it a try. Write 75 words or less on something you care about.
(If you'd rather argue with my opinion, please start a separate marijuana thread).

Starting a new thread to argue over something in a preexisting thread is unnecessary. According to String Theory, there are only a finite number of possible threads to begin with. And besides, most forums don’t support this type of facist thread hording based on personal whim or fancy. If you want to keep threads dedicated to one specified idea, it would be prudent to not invite would-be hijackers by requesting that they not hijack your thread.

You're right. It is tough. I couldn't fit it in less than seventy-six words.

No, but (and i swear to god this is true) we were told at a boy scout rally about a babysitter who got high and roasted the baby, thinking it was a turkey. since then i've learned this is an urban legend, but it still freaked me out.SuperHiro wrote:Damn that one sneaks up on you. My serious attempt.
--------------------------------------------
We have gutted our industrial base, and are quickly outsourcing our service sector as well. Our education levels relative to the first world continues to decline. The dollar has already begun to hemorrhage. Given these trends, our economic dominance cannot be maintained for long. Attempting to disguise these problems, our government has engaged in reckless spending and increasingly relied on our military superiority to preserve our economic status. History suggests this is a losing strategy.

75 words. You're right, Ironrod. It is tough.
