Look, I don't want to say you're full of it, but I find it highly unlikely that an ancient order of knights would attempt a DDoS attack or something on a gaming site just because a review starting bringing them too much attention.Teggy wrote:I'm wondering if it's because they posted a bit of an outlier of a review for 1886, which put it at the top of the Metecritic page.

The initial connection between CloudFlare's network and the origin web server timed out. As a result, the web page can not be displayed.

They've developed a pretty good front page, have always been more console-focused than we are, and are podcasting, as well as starting to cover boardgames.

Re: GamingTrend offline for a short time
I dropped out after the changeover, too. Really didn't like the new software.
As I understand it, the new forum is somehow tied to their front page...like, if someone comments on an article, they automatically go to the forums. Or something. Hope they can build a new community cuz I think they lost what was left of the old one.

Probably. From Ron over there: If you find that you are having issues getting into the forums, please email and we'll help you out.

I also stopped visiting once the new software was implemented. I can't remember exactly why anymore( maybe because I couldn't figure out how to see only new posts since my previous visit?

Re: GamingTrend offline for a short time
I know I fell off going there a little after the split. It was partly because they were all about consoles and I wasn't, and partly because it seemed like most of the forum activity was coming from one poster that I didn't particularly care for. Good for them for trucking along

I'm still hanging around, though it did really take some getting used to. The thing is, I kind of dislike the whole dynamic flat look. QT3 is the same way.

I'm don't really care for the new format, but still post there quite often.
The overall volume of posting has decreased significantly though. Outside of a few AAA titles, it's become pretty hard to generate much discussion.

Re: GamingTrend offline for a short time
Yeah, they've had integration as a long-term goal. But if that's at the expense of regular posters, I wonder if it will be worth it in the end? I think they've struck a good balance though. The thing about integration that I've experience from other forums, is that it then becomes a bunch of threads simply with link drops, which I feel can be detrimental. I've seen several forums die due to overexposure of these kinds of threads, because overall they don't promote discussion. In fact, I feel they tend to drive people away. On one of those forums, it was a guy simply posting and pasting in a link, with no description or anything else. It wasn't an inviting atmosphere. Over time, the forum began to look like a ghost town, and that was partly because they were more concerned about their comments on the overall site rather than the actual community, and the forum fell to the wayside. That's why I've been so hesitant and vocal about integration in the past. Would just hate to see the same thing happen to the GT community.

+1 as another person who fell off the forums after the changes.. I just can't get around as easy as before and it feels like a step backwards to me and doesn't really feel like a forum.
My main reason was the clunky way of seeing unread posts... I got used to jumping in, clicking view unread posts, then scrolling through to the posts that interest me, then marking forum as read. It kept it tidy and that's what I do here.. Plus, I can see a lot more threads at once with the old forum.
In fact, after the change, I started posting here a lot more than in the past.. I pop on occasionally to see upcoming releases and that's about it.

I had to email Ron to get myself logged in again, but I cannot stand the new format, just too cumbersome to easily navigate. I have also noticed there are rarely any daily posts anymore also. I'll stick around here.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

It also doesn't help that Tapatalk no longer works with GT. That's how I'd often visit that (and this) forum.
