Forget about twitter followers, YouTube views and influencer counts, I've just had something I submitted posted to the sign at the El Arroyo restaurant in Austin, Texas.

Utah is now the third most unaffordable housing market in the US, behind only California and Hawaii. Sheesh.

Glad I got in 20 years ago, as I would never be able to move into my current neighborhood now.

Do not spill a bottle of superglue on your finger. The exothermic reaction burns. Large quantities of water were barely enough, as I was watching the glue bond to itself. Ow.

The good news is only one finger was significantly affected after the soaking in water and nail polish remover. That finger now will leave no print as the skin on the tip was pulled off, fortunately only one layer it appears.

My desk mousepad/game mat was destroyed, however. And Miniature Market no longer carries 50% off Game Plus replacements.

I never used to change the clock in my car. Now it's as simple as ticking a box on a settings menu, but it used to require finding the owners manual.

Man if it aint USPS screwing me its Walmart+.

I buy beer when I make my once a month food purchase. The last two times it said on the brand and type I wanted "Only 3 in stock. order now"...so I leave it till last, recheck its availability, add to my cart and click checkout.

And I swear for the last two times it is out of stock sry. And even though my personal shopper is STILL SHOPPING I cant contact them to tell them what Id rather have to replace it. They simply DONT replace it at all. Fuck.

This time I called and complained and they refunded it and gave me a gift amount as a sorry. Whoopee.

My clock radio has a DST toggle, so it's easy to set it appropriately twice a year. Which is about as frequently as I actually need to use it. Aside from manually resetting the clock on the microwave, everything else I have automatically updates itself when we change to/from DST.

So its the phone.

Safelink wont replace it. i just called. I have to buy a new phone to use either through them or Walmart or some place. I cant afford a phone. Why do they think i got a free one from them in the first place/??

Take a needle and carefully clean out around the connector in your phone. Mine can fill up with lint and dust and make it difficult to get a good connection. Cleaning it out every once in a while helps.

Hey, guess what I just found out?! Apparently the gap between the floor and the elevator at work is just wide enough that my cane will slip right in there.
Fortunately, I was able to check myself before taking a header into the lobby.

The elevator I use to move between the library stacks at work has a few fun quirks.

If you select the destination floor before the door closes on level 1, there about a 20% chance that the door will get stuck in the open position. What's worse is that a *loud* buzzer will begin to sound at thirty-second intervals, making it impossible for anyone with an office nearby to do any work until Building Ops comes to reset it.

Also, if you select the floor before the door closes on levels 2 through 4, there's a small but not negligible chance that the door will close but the elevator will not move, leaving you trapped until Building Ops comes to rescue you.

I am on a first-name basis with Building Ops.

Working in a hotel/casino with multiple towers gave me the chance to learn a lot about elevators. Between having a fire/lockout key, dealing with stuck/trapped guests, and occasionally escorting elevator repairmen, I got to see a lot of the options.

My first day at my first casino also taught me that the half inch between the inner surface of the door and the obstruction sensor is surprisingly dangerous. A woman boarded an elevator with her family. She had forgotten to do something, so she tried to reach between the doors as they were closing. She was a fraction of a second too late, and her finger was between the doors - but not far enough in to trip the sensor. The door held her finger tight. Ever helpful, her family grabbed her arm and pulled. They were successful. She came loose from the door.

Her finger, unfortunately, remained clamped in place.

My first day of the job involved responding the emergency. The department EMT (we had 1-2 on every shift) saw I had my gloves on and said, "Here, hold this." She handed me a finger.

It was far from the strangest (or most disturbing, or most gory) thing that happened to me in that line of work, but it was a great first-day introduction to the job.

I take the whole "you need to walk these many steps a day" thing with a grain of salt. It's like the "you have to drink 8 quarts of water a day" or whatever. They eventually discovered that bottled water companies were behind that. And the other day, I heard a news report that the suggested steps was also dubious. Although I can't imagine walking MORE is going to be anything but beneficial.

I have a Samsung smart watch and the damn thing gets cranky when I've been sitting for more than a few hours. It starts telling me to get my fat ass up and do something.

The steps/water thing reminds me of when my mom told us if you put salt on a bird's tail, it couldn't fly and you could catch it. She'd then send us outside with a salt shaker and enjoy an hour of peace and quiet as we ran around like idiots trying to catch birds.

The point is to not sit all day and stay hydrated. But people need a goal.

I take it with a grain of salt as well but 10,000 steps is still my goal. It burns calories. It's taken fat out of midriff (a lot). It's loosened up my joints. It's helped my breathing and heart. It's slowly helping with my endurance. Until I got hit, it helped me clear my head. Until I started increasing to a jog, it guaranteed me being active for at least 90 minutes a day.

It was the first step in the right direction toward taking control of my health and I actually had to work up to it. So I'm a fan, even if it's just a tale.
