T-57: 3.52mi@8:54 - 8:30pm run, 94 degrees cooling to 91 - first mile was 8:08 - I still got some speed, but it cost me later.

I guess I should be happy to report the hydration belt that goes down to 31.5" is too big. A little more bounce than I would like to see. I'll try the hand held bottle next run.

T-54: 3.51@9:00 - 10:30am run, 84 degrees rising to fire and brimstone with hand-canteen

I think I like the handheld bottle better, but I could see it getting annoying on a longer run. I'll have to try that when I get my distance up.

The bottle belt isn't bad once you get used to it...eventually won't really notice the bounce any more. Before getting a belt, I used a handheld bottle (with a strap so you really didn't have to grip), but I couldn't stand it to carry it for long periods of time. Once I was running for more than 45-60 minutes at a time, carrying the bottle felt like a nuisance...switching hands because one gets sweaty, feeling like your arms are out of balance. Once I became adjusted to the belt it was was a much more comfortable way to do more miles.

Just finished 5 miles @9:15. My hips are bothering me so I gotta take it easy the next couple weeks and not over do it. Can't get an injury this close to Ragnar.

Damnit, there is nowhere in Colorado that's flat.

I ran with the handheld water bottle again and I think I prefer that. I still need to try it on longer runs...hopefully I get around to longer runs.

That makes 5 runs in 7 days. I am not sure that has happened since high school. I am still waiting for the inevitable breakdown of my ancient carcass (that sounds kinda JeffV doesn't it?)

So is there some app we can all join to track/share our runs? I can't make the race, but I can be a training partner to push you all along! :) I have a Garmin watch and am a member of SportTracks.

I just use the basic runkeeper app on my phone. It's free and gives me what I need. I know runkeeper has friends stuff but I have never used it and if you don't have a smartphone it wouldn't really do you any good.

I use RK, too. We should add each other.

I really like Google Fit as well. Been using that more than RK lately.

My hip is really bothersome and I suspect my training for the next couple weeks is going to suffer. But I'm doing the race unless I'm crippled and even then I'll run it.

First run in 6 days and surprisingly relative minor discomfort. 3 miles light jog.

I saw my acupuncturists and got some needles and cupping done last Thursday and it's practically a miracle!!

Glad you're doing better.

I had a half-marathon this weekend. Went pretty well. Course PR for me.

Went for a run today shortly after hearing about Justice Kennedy's retirement. Turned into an Angry Run™. That part went well, as I finished a 5-mile run @ 7:53 pace, four days after running a half-marathon.

But when I finished, Kennedy was still retiring and Trump is still President. Shit.

I've got a good streak going here... 6th day without running, my training is really taking shape. My wife was out of town this weekend and it has been in the upper 90s every evening.

Today I watched a woman that was so into her running, she ran right thru freshly poured cement.
She went in ankle high and damn near fell face first. She sludged her way out and when I went to see if she was okay, she wouldn't stop crying. Not because she was hurt or embarrassed, but because she ruined her running shoes.

That could very well have been worth crying about. Did you ever see how much high end shoes cost?

My hips are aching again after the run 2 days ago. I could definitely run if need be and I will for Ragnar.

But at this point, my training is going to suffer significantly I'm afraid.

I assumed having a race on the calendar would motivate me. It seems I was wrong. I only ran twice last week (though it was two runs within about 11 hours) and have yet to run this week. I can partly blame it on the weather, but it is NOT going to get cooler in Texas between now and August. I have a nice treadmill in my house... but I *hate* running on a treadmill. I need to find a show to watch on the treadmill to keep me running. Help me Netflix, you're my only hope!

I am quasi-training for a marathon in October. By that I mean I know there is one I can run then and I've started to increase my long runs, but I'm kind of ambivalent about doing it.

This morning I ran my long midweek run - 8.25 miles. I checked the radar before I left as there was some thunder in the area, but everything appeared to be sliding well north of my location so I decided to run outside. During the run, there was quite a light show, but very little thunder. I thought I was going to make it unscathed as I hit the midpoint and turned around for home with nary a drop to be seen. Then, at 4.75 miles, the sky opened up without warning. I was near a gas station and found a nice dry spot out of the blowing deluge. After about 10 minutes, a bolt hit close enough that the light and boom arrived at almost the same time and the station attendant motioned me inside. I hung out there for another 15 minute at which point we hadn't heard thunder for a bit and I decided I had to try to finish. I had to get to work and still had about 30 minutes until I'd get back to the gym. The rain had lightened to just a steady downpour and I was immediately soaked. It was oddly refreshing, however, as it was still about 79F. About 1.25 miles from the gym, the rain finally stopped and by the time I got to the gym, my skin was mostly dry, if pruny. I'm not sure my shoes will ever dry out though.

Running in a big storm can be super-refreshing, although simultaneous thunder & lightning would certainly add a rough edge to the feeling. :)

Coop, sorry that you live in Texas. That sounds miserable for running. I lived in Tulsa one summer during an internship in college, and there was a week where it was 110+ every day, and hit 115 at least once. That was a PITA, especially when I leaned on the painted door to stretch after getting 'home.' And discovered it was painted metal.

Three people in the area were hit by lightning yesterday. Not a recommended way to get a jolt in your stride.

I'm a little biased, but I really like the Nike Run Club (NRC) app. It's free and is great for keeping me motivated. It has some really fun features (guided runs, leader boards for friends, weekly/monthly challenges, the ability to send cheers to friends when they start a run) and provides some pretty good data in terms of running route, elevation, pace, heartbeat (if you have a device to monitor heartbeat). If anyone ends up checking it out, let me know so I can add you as a friend.

Another cool thing to consider is joining Ath Links. It's also free, and when you sign-up, it will pull all your race results from any races you've done and put them in one place. Pretty convenient, and it's a great way to see trends in results.

In other running news, just finished a 4th of July half marathon. It was an incredibly flat course, and the weather was perfect. About 60 degrees with a scattering of clouds at 7:00 AM when we started. The race was on Sauvie Island, just north of Portland. About half way through, I noticed the power lines on the side of the road start to violently shake. About a quarter mile up the road, I saw a massive tree branch had fallen on the lines, and then, a little ways up the road from there, I saw tons of smoke start pouring out of a hedge row where the lines had fallen. All ended ok, as the race officials got the message to the fire department pretty fast and got the fire put out before it could spread, but not something you see everyday during a race!

Awesome. I only went six this am. Last 7+ days are over 40 miles, which is the most I've done in a week in over a decade. Body wanted an easy day.

The heat finally broke yesterday in the mid-Atlantic, but was rainy. This morning, at the beach, just cloudy and windy. So I put in 6 easy miles this morning. But I'm still being lazy as my next bout of training doesn't start for another couple of weeks. Might hit the road Monday morning as it shouldn't be hot again yet. Plus I enjoy the flat roads here.

9.03 miles is 80:38 (8:56 min/mile) on Sunday. That tropical depression off the coast sucked out all the humidity so it was 67F, dry, and a bit breezy for the run.

5.74 miles in 49:29 (8:38 min/mile) this morning. Still cool and dry (67F again today). It's going to stink later in the week when the humidity returns.
