The B-movie SF movie would be a poor quality projection. The diner food would be cheap, mid-quality ingredients. Air-conditioning would be very rare, and most people would have worse bodily hygiene than you're used to. And *everywhere* indoors smelled overwhelmingly of stale cigarette smoke.

We've become a civilization that expects high quality because we have so many consumer options. That wasn't always the case.

Heres one for Blackhawk. Roosters can be right mean but I almost feel sorry for this one. That pigeon beats the crap out of him. Dang didn't know they could or would do that. I can hear those blows from here.

FWIW, pigeons are some of the weakest fighters in the bird world. Their beaks are pointy, but they are too soft to do much, and don't have much muscle behind them. The wing slap feels like someone smacking you with a rolled up paper towel. Their skin is extremely thin and tears easily, and their blood does not clot well when they are injured.

The only thing that they have going for them is that if they do survive the initial injury, they are very resilient and strong healers.

You have to be very careful about keeping pigeons with other birds. If they get in a real fight, a much smaller bird can handily kill a pigeon.

That rooster was more confused than aggressive. I'm guessing that the owner stuck him in there for a laugh. If he'd gotten angry, he'd have killed the pigeon really quickly.

I didn't know whether to put this in the scam thread or this one. I went with this one. It is immensely satisfying, and it is informative. FWIW, the 'practical joke' part of the video is the least significant thing that happens, and is the least satisfying part. It is, however, what this guy is known for (his glitter bombs), but the impact he has is measurable.

Very worth a watch.

I've seen some pretty bizarre weapons but I've never seen anything as ridiculously over-engineered as this thing.

Motorcycle chariot racing

Motorcycle chariot racing is a motor sport that combines motorcycle racing and chariot racing.

The sport was extant in the 1920s and 1930s, having been inspired by the 1925 film Ben-Hur. It went largely (although not entirely) extinct after that, although exhibition rigs are still made and driven.

The sport was developed in Australia in the 1920s and quickly spread to Europe and America. Motorcycle chariot races were, for instance, probably held at the old Charlotte, North Carolina motor speedway (the old speedway at 35°5′52.8″N 80°52′52.51″W, not the modern Charlotte Motor Speedway).

A typical early vehicle configuration was a rider on a motorcycle, pulling a chariot and charioteer who were essentially ornamental. A 1922 short piece in Popular Mechanics describes this configuration. This soon developed into a configuration with two riderless motorcycles steered by a single charioteer using reins. Steering was sometimes done with reins attached to the throttles (the charioteer steered by controlling the relative speed of the two motorcycles), and sometimes with rigid extensions attached to the handlebars. Modern rigs may have foot pedals for speed control, the reins used for steering the front wheels.
