Im sure thats what everyone does...not. I wouldn't trust people. Then again before Covid I wouldn't care. But with people coughing and sneezing and stuff..handling them is the least of worries. Thats why the old buffets and such had the sneeze guards. I cant believe Smoove didn't say anything lol. Some Mr Health you are sir :)

How do you hold the pretzel rod then? Nevermind, I don't want to know.

The wedding was outside so I felt comfortable but I did not think about the sanitary aspect of selecting a donut... I just saw a bunch of donuts on a pegboard and was very happy. The setup reminded me of Homer being forced donuts.

There were no tongs or wax paper to grab a donut and in the foreground is a bunch of thinly cut pieces of the wedding cake. A pretzel rod would be a great idea.

Since we're on a new page, here's the picture again...

You can see a guy on the right... he was making fresh donut holes. They put 3 or 4 donut holes in a bowl and you drop in some ice cream and choose your toppings. It was one of the best desert bars I've seen at a wedding.

Were the donuts sorted by type, there would be only minor concerns, but they seem to be stacked at random. Honestly that would bother me whether I wanted a donut or not. Enough that I might beg some gloves from the caterers and fix it. Yeah, I'd be that guy.

Towards the end of the night at our wedding reception, we had the venue wheel out a cart with a couple hundred White Castle burgers.
They all evaporated in no time.

There is a pattern to the layout, not sure if that helps always having a different type up front. If one thing bothered me it was not having a description of the donuts because one lady was too close, squinting at a donut and said, "ewww, coconut!"

Never seen a chocolate fountain in real life only in movies and tv. Id try it. looks good. Then again it makes me wonder how many people double dip...as in getting some and biting it then sticking the bit piece back in . Seems kinda 1970's era.

I have never seen anyone do that. You don't stand around the fountain and eat. You put stuff on a plate. If you want extra, then you put more on the plate.

I have no idea what the comment about the 70s is. Chocolate fountains have been around for decades. They are still very much a thing.

Is fondue out of fashion? I know there is at least one fondue restaurant around these parts. Or was. I have checked in the last decade or so. But I thought it was still something people did on a somewhat regular basis. Some people.

Though I have no idea if anyone still does it at home.

I think that's the same one we have. Is that a national chain? I want to say there were a couple locations in the area. Many years ago we tried the one in ... Boulder, I think. The food was good. But the lighting was terrible. My memory is that it was really dark. Which is not so good when trying to determine if your meat is cooked enough. :D

Nice. Pretty sure I didn't have a smart phone when I last went. But if we go again (and we really should!), I'll have to remember that option.

I went once (actually maybe twice, it's been a LOOOONG time. It's worth it for the experience. I think it is great for appetizers (cheese fondue) and desserts (chocolate fondue) but terrible for the main course, making me responsible for cooking my own food? There's a reason I went to a restaurant damn it.

That's a fantastic cartoon.

Fondue is pretty out of style right now. Our family tradition was to do cheese fondue and chocolate fondue on Christmas eve, but our daughter is not down with the cheese (she ate a lot of the l'il smokies). We've moved away, as keeping the cheese at the sweet spot of soft, but not oils leaking out was more aggravating than it was all worth. We also used to do the Melting Pot for special family occasions, and I share the same reservations as listed above.

Finally, and probably most importantly, DO. NOT. SPIKE. THE. CHOCOLATE. FOUNTAIN. WITH. BAILEYS. Instant seize. (We own like three chocolate fountains. Well, down to two now. We used to host a lot of things in The Before Times™...)

Speaking of melted cheese...when's the last time you had welsh rarebit, or saw it offered?

We had excellent cheese fondue in Switzerland, where it was a national craze at the time. Tried making it at home with less-than-stellar results. I'll bet we still have a fondue set buried in the deepest recesses of the pantry.

Couple months ago. We just call it toasted cheese. My wife and her parents ate it all their lives. I didn't until meeting her. My grilled cheese is 2 slices of bread coated in mayo and a slice of cheese on it and fried in a skillet of butter. When I tried her bland toasted cheese I was not impressed. But it grew on me and I love it now. Different types of cheeses make it interesting.
