Re: Steam's Deals of the Day/Weekend/Midweek
Thanks for the input, guys. I went with Battlefront Gold.
Isn't it about time they make another Star Wars FPS? I absolutely loved the old ones, mostly for the sense of scope and size that was captured so well. Finished the first two (Dark Forces 1 and 2) but never got past the first part of Jedi Outcast, and so never even bought Jedi Acadamy. But even that last one is years old and IIRC, was not that great according to reviews. I think Force Unleashed is a completely different animal as well.

Re: Steam's Deals of the Day/Weekend/Midweek
I agree completely, but the perception is that the big money just isn't in the PC games these days. Lucas Arts was such an innovator in the early 90s. I bought my first soundcard and PC joystick just to play Xwing. Flying an Xwing for the first time brought me back to watching Star Wars in the theater all over again as a young kid.Carpet_pissr wrote:Isn't it about time they make another Star Wars FPS? Agree, but could they not make a multi-platform FPS though (although the first Star Wars FPS used an engine that the team created in house...something incredible in the world after Doom, when every other game used that engine)?

For that price, I can't not pick up With Fire and Sword. I already own the other two.

I paid twice that price for it on Friday, and it's pretty much Warband with guns. (I.e., worth $7.50 in my book.) Will see how well that impression holds up as I get the chance to give it some time.Isgrimnur wrote:For that price, I can't not pick up With Fire and Sword. I already own the other two.

I got it in a previous sale. It's a competent tower defense game. It's no defense grid.Isgrimnur wrote:Daily Deal: iBomber Defense - 50% off, $2.49

The strategy bundle is worth it. Already got Revenge of Titans, but the other games (all of them tower defense variants, BTW) are worth $10 each easy.

The amount of time I put into Defense Grid staggers the mind. For months that was my "grab a beer after work and veg out for 2 hours" game. I really wish they'd do a follow up...or just release a new campaign.

The Strategy Bundle is an awesome buy. Alas, I've all of them already but imo if you've only one or two of the games? Still a good deal.

Re: Steam's Deals of the Day/Weekend/Midweek
Speaking of the Total War special...could I just get either the Empire:TW game for $10 or at most the Napoleon: TW + Empire TW for $15 and call it a day? Would anyone (without unlimited time) recommend playing the earlier ones, or is Empire kind of the culmination/best of the series?
No way in hell I will be able to play Rome, Medieval II, Napoleon and Empire, plus all the add-ons (and really, who would want to...wouldn't you get sick of it?)
Napoleon seems to do many things better than Empire (better battlefied AI for one), but gets a lower Metacritic score (I assume because it is not as groundbreaking, and very specific in scope?).
Edit: Wow, or Shogun 2:TW for $3!

I'm pushing a couple of friends to get it.
The controls were a little wonky, but I quickly got over that. The story was very good. Took me about 20 hours to play it through the first time. And it is definitely worth replaying (if I ever get time).
I really enjoyed it.

Re: Steam's Deals of the Day/Weekend/Midweek
The Total War pack is looking mighty tempting. I already have original ShogunTW and Rome TW, but actually.... never played it. AND I already bought too many games I haven't played. I think I'll have to hold off on this one.
But Alpha Protocol for $2? Got that one. I'm bargain hunting.
