Borderlands 2 - Impressions start Page 5

Post by Smoove_B »

Not much info, but the site has been launched.

Allegedly out "sometime between April 1, 2012 and March of 2013".
Borderlands 2 features all new characters, skills, environments, enemies, weapons and equipment, which come together in an ambitiously crafted story. Players will reveal secrets, and escalate mysteries of the Borderlands universe as they adventure across the unexplored new areas of Pandora.

That's a pretty easy decision. I'd like to see it fleshed out more though. They certainly have the game mechanics down, now it needs a bit more personality and item types, for me at least.

Loved the gameplay, but they needed more carrots to chase.

Part of me is hoping there will be 6 or 8 player co-op instead of just 4, but since it will clearly be a console title I doubt that will happen.

I just want a PC port that I don't have to tweak heavily to basic PC interface functionality like not-huge fonts and mouse wheel scrolling working. Don't just slap the console interface on the PC and expect me to be happy. This is why I'm waiting for impressions before buying.

I hope they add more types of loot, like armor and that you can dress up your character.

That too. When I saw that the new Deus Ex game was advertising "adjustable FOV" as a PC feature, I was firmly reminded of our status in the gaming world. While it's fair to say I've never worked on a AAA gaming title, I have to believe making sure the UI scales for both console and PC gamers isn't all that difficult in terms of all the other things you're working on.

Can't wait to see Skyrim looks like on release day either...

If users can go in and FIX THE INI FILES so a game plays more like a PC game, why the frak can't the developers do this before they sell it? One of my absolute biggest pet peeves.

I waited a good long time before buying, and got a deal during a Steam sale for everything, DLC included, so I assume most of the early issues were fixed by the time I played it.

Yeah, there was some consolitus still (terrible menus), but nothing that held me back at all.

Go back in the original Borderlands thread and look for the release-day impressions. It was unreal the state it shipped in for PC Gamers.

Especially when you consider that it shipped, what, at least a week or two later than the console version.

Yes, I recall some of that discussion and it's why I prefaced my "no real problems" with the fact that I bought it months (years?) after its release.

Good news! It's about friggin time they announced they are doing one! I just don't want to wait that long.
It's a drag they aren't still churning out DLC for the first game. They did some genious work on those.

If that ever happens I might as well be written off as dead. I will never leave my house if that happens. But I will be a god in the game world.

I am pretty sure this is the first (ultra-short) trailer for the game -- from GamesCon. Wouldn't be surprised if we get more info this week.

But I'm confused by the non-brown color palette. :)

I thought the world of Pandora goes through long cycles where the world looks dead, but then comes back to life. I imagine the next game will take place during one of the life cycles. The original took place during the period of time just before a life cycle when everything was waking up and plants were coming back.

I hadn't read/heard that, but that might be kind of cool.

The palette was definitely one of the weak aspects of the first. Imo.

Gearbox is now actively asking PC gamers what they'd want included for PC-specific support.

Pretty much any PC-specific design consideration on release day would be an improvement so at least they're moving in the right direction.

That release date was announced by gearbox in February. I think we must have discussed it in the ongoing borderlands thread.

Steam had borderlands 2 4-pack for $161.99. Game is normally $60, $54 if you have the original on steam. $40.50 sounds like a smashing good deal. If anyone wants to put together a 4-pack count me in. /hint

I'm in.

I was going to try and hold out. But let's face it, that's not going to happen. $40 will be the most I've spent on a game in years. I think WoW expansions are the only things I've paid full ticket for.

I'd love to get in on a 4-pack.

If that falls through, it can be had via Green Man Gaming for $47.99 using this coupon valid through the 31st.

Edit: See malachai's post below. It wasn't showing up as being 10% off for me before, so with the coupon it's now $40 on GMG; no need to muss with the Steam 4-pack.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg
