The quoted bit posted here from the article clearly states they know about it, but just they’re not discussing it. Every day just brings more evidence that we’re dealing with a would be autocrat.

Does he understand that there are a large number of sanctions on NK hindering their economic growth, many of which originate from the country he's the president of? Is this foreshadowing for the US dropping those sanctions?

I'm just learning that the Policy Enhancement Act of 2016 exists that requires the President to sanction entities found to have contributed to North Korea's weapons of mass destruction program, arms trade, human rights abuses, or other illegal activities.

Does he know he must implement sanctions under the law of the country he's the president of?

I look forward to NK becoming an economic powerhouse while the US (and lots of others, including Canada) strangles it to death economically.

Good lord. Good. Lord.

USA Today
Ahead of a summit between President Trump and Kim Jong Un, Vietnam has deported a man who impersonates the North Korean leader.

Howard X, a Hong Kong resident who is a Kim Jong Un lookalike, and Trump impersonator Russell White were detained by authorities during a TV interview last week after staging a fake summit, the BBC reports.

"Both Russell and I are annoyed at being monitored 24/7, but at the same time honored that the government felt that we as impersonators were considered important enough for them to spend their resources keeping tabs on us," Howard X said on Facebook.

Monday, Vietnamese officials sent Howard X out of the country because he said his visa was invalid. White was permitted to stay, but was asked to stop impersonating Trump in public, Agence France-Presse reports.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Love how he thinks that they can come out of the 'stone ages' to economic powerhouse with a simple snap of the fingers.
Any indication on how much capital investment would be needed?..............

Trump doesn't believe it. He just believes Kim is susceptible to flattery, and he thinks this is an inspired move no one ever thought of before.

There will also be some bribery mixed in, as Trump negotiates some sort of giveaway (such as bringing U.S. troops home) for the short-term gain of appearing to make progress.

Kim will play the same game, knowing that Trump is desperate for good press. The difference is that Kim's gains will benefit his regime while Trump's will benefit only Donald Trump.

It doesn't matter how North Korea is going to transform it's economy. The only important thing is the licensing deal that transforms the Ryugyong Hotel into Trump Tower Pyongyan.

Jesus H. Christ. Has there EVER been an example of a U.S. president lavishing this much praise and adoration on a well established tyrant ruling over one of the world's most impressive regimes, and with numerous, proven human rights violations, in our history?

Trump is, without a doubt, a traitor. He would sell his own children for praise. Neville Chamberlain has stopped turning over in his grave and can now rest peacefully in the knowledge he's no longer the poster boy for appeasement with war mongering dictators.

It's getting late in Vietnam. Trump is done for the day, and the Cohen hearings have just begun.

What are the odds that Trump tweets out some sort of insane North Korea "deal" just to try to eclipse the news from Washington?

I can't imagine being that kids parents and hearing this.

What a total disgrace of a President.

Of course, I suppose it makes perfect sense for Trump to constantly try and build up the value of the "I took him at his word" currency.... cause that's pretty much Trump's only defense himself - to lie and ask someone to just take him for his word.

So Trump effectively concedes NK's right to remain a nuclear power indefinitely, as long as it doesn't do anything openly provocative. He bans reporters from his state dinner because a free press isn't polite. He reaffirms his love for the dictator, and in return, he gets...angry? This must all be part of his master plan.

Did anyone think Trump was going to pull off anything substantive? Kim Jong Un played him like a fiddle. He got the leader of America to call him a friend, and his face on every paper in the world. He's got the legitimacy he's always sought...that North Korea has always sought.

Donald J Trump: Friend to dictators all over the world.

US history is filled with "transactional" relationships with other countries. The Yalta Conference which led to the carving up of Europe post-WW2 is an interesting study. But unlike Yalta this so-called master negotiator doesn't seem to be getting a thing in exchange for his kowtowing towards N. Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, etc. and if anything is weakening us as a country. This isn't a casino deal or the NYC real estate market and Trump has really pissed away our reputation for I don't even know what gain. Guess what America, perhaps if you wanted a businessman running the country it would have been better to get one that wasn't such a failure.

Just a reminder that this isn't the first time drumpf has met with Kim. Last time he came home with assurances and nothing substantive as well, and Kim promptly ignored those assurances. Drumpf is going to, one day hopefully, realize why every previous president kept piling on the sanctions instead of "being nice" to NK.

I'm sure Rip et al have rationales for why all this is a positive thing though. Hell, drumpf is up for a Nobel. He must be doing something right, just like Obama.

I was going to say everyone loses but since the odds are that the Donald may walk away from the steaming pile of shit he's left us, we are the losers. I can see him doing the speech and book tour of various non-extradition treaty countries or places that will be difficult to go after his money in a civil suit if it came to that.
