FWIW, you still need to have Origin installed and have an active account even if you buy DAI on Steam.

Started a replay of this yesterday. It certainly is pretty far removed from the original (and best in the series) Dragon Age: Origins. And the plot of this couldn't be less interesting. But, once you get through the linear start it sure is fun.
