Was he supposed to be one of the pilots of the ships that crashed together? I wasn't paying enough attention, but there was a comment about water being affected, so I think the ships may have landed in the water? So maybe that was the pilot after climbing out of the water? Though... where was the water dripping off him...?

I still remain suspicious. I prefer seeing actual gameplay. I don't like videos like that. I've been burned too many times.

Squadron 42 is feature locked and is now in polish mode.
I'm hoping we get it mid 2024 but we've already waited this long, a little while more won't bother me.

Yeah, this 'feature complete' announcement would normally be exciting. I've long ago lost any enthusiasm about this product/company. Ridiculous.

What is the OO consensus on this game? Can it be played solo or is that Squadron 42?

Squadron 42 is the main solo game and is a separate thing from MP Star Citizen.
The solo game hasn't been realeaswd at all as far as i kniw.
I think its too early to say for sure if SC can be played purely solo as well.
I know that tge times I pkayed have all been solo and I was fone. Never ran across griefers or anything like that yet.
It might be different on full telease if a large number of people decide to start playing.
One benefit of play the MP version of SC is that there are some ships that can use multiple crewmembers. I dont think there are hirable NPCs for this. I dont know if they are planned either.
I also this that S42 is the only one with an overarcing storyline. Not sure if thats planned for the other vetsion.

When I bavked the KS it originally was going to be a single game. Mostly single player with story. Basically a Wing Commander upgrade. There was MP planned but i dont think it was originally planbed for as big as it is. More of an add on.
I mostly bavked for SP but once they decided to split the games, all previous backers got copies of both.

I've played a few times but have trouble remembering how to play from session to session so I'm not doing much except messing around and looking at tge pretty graphics so far.
I have an app for my phone or ipad that makes a lot of the commands gui but haven't tried ot with that yet.

I get the backlash, but if they can pull it off, a lot of people are going to be eating their words. This looks fantastic. The question is will it be playable performance-wise, and will the massive universe be fun to play, or full of void?

My primary reason for backing has always been for the single player Squadron 42.

So, to hear that it's feature locked and ready for polish is good news to me. Yes, they definitely developed this thing far, far beyond what the original scope was but that should end up being a good thing.
They have had to invent a lot of the technology that will be going into the game (if you watched the video you'll get an understanding of what is involved). For example, most game engines can handle environments up to several thousand kilometers in size but the scope of this game is in the millions of kilometers. Can't just pull an engine off the shelf for that.

The Star Citizen Persistent Universe MMO is the other part of the game and I do look forward to playing that with friends and family, but it is really not the part that I'm excited about.

Honestly, I dont get the backlash.
Yes its taking a LOT longer than originally expected but that doesn't mean its a scam or anything as some people are saying.
It might even be mismanaged and they let too much feature creep set in but still not a scam.
They have a working prototype and you can play it. They aren't hiding behind various progress videos that could be faked, they are letting you play it as it's being developed.
Could the game not live up to the hype? Sure, but that doesn't mean its a scam or even a bad game.
What they already have is pretty impressive and playable.

Usually when a game is free to play for a limited time, it's referred to as a 'free to play event', or 'free weekend'. It's pretty common terminology. "[Game] is free" is what's usually used for things like giveaways on GoG or Epic.

not an obvious choice in the installer where you can choose which drive to choose to install to.
long load times
sound is very quiet
have to eat and drink
elevator doesn't work which makes the tutorial broken

Its been a while since i played but i think...

1. I think you choose during the installer for the installer. The first executable that installs the real instalker.

2. After yhe intial game load, I dont recall any real load screens. I tjink they still use the elevator trick and other hidden ones.

3. I usually have to turn down the sound as its loud. This is odd.

4. It might be changed but i dont recall having to eat constantly like in some survival games. Food lasted a long time.

5. I've had the elevator bug out begore. Usually reloading helps. It didn't happen often for me though.

There's in-game footage, and then there's in-game footage. Lots of games show amazing in-game footage that won't be actually be playable for another decade, unless you like playing at 3 frames per second. They actually use the in-game material cranked up to such a high level that it's impossible to run, then render it out one frame at a time.

I have no idea which this is, but then again, this is Star Citizen, a game that's famous for claims, but not so much for delivery.

I think ot was close but i had to drop some graphics settings.

Revealed on its website, the Legatus 2953 pack will arrive in the first quarter of 2024 and cost $48,000 despite the game not having officially launched yet.

Adding even more to the price, the Legatus 2953 pack is only available to members of Star Citizen's Chairman's Club, which can only be entered after spending $1,000 on other items in game.
Man, I wish companies would stop that. Not everyone can afford to spend $1,000 to be eligible for the $48,000 deal!
