Yeah, it's... something.

I won't link it here, but a simple search will turn it up. If definitely appears to be a fully nude Madison Cawthorn face-humping a male figure on a bed while another person (the camera holder) looks on.

I don't think we know who leaked it, and the homophobia of doing so would be disgusting were Cawthorn not such a disgusting, self-righteous public homophobe himself.

The best result of the GOP purging figures like Cawthorn will be the purgees getting revenge by telling everything they know.

It's a big universe. It's possible, perhaps even probable, that there's something out there capable of making me feel sorry for Madison Cawthorn.

But we're nowhere close yet.

These dirty tricks go back to the Founders. There's probably never been an election year where some American candidate somewhere didn't accuse an opponent of sexual impropriety.

But what do we call it when a homophobe is revealed to be indulging in the sex he calls out as immoral?

I mostly agree - I'm more talking about the aspect of releasing private videos. It's outrageous. Just because some think he had it coming doesn't make this ok to me.

I will say, I was pretty shocked when I stumbled upon the video on twitter. Who uses a camera that blurry? Unless there are going to be sex tapes of Mitch McConnell, in which case, please add more blurriness.

I'm also kinda surprised that he owned it so quick, given how blurry it was, and given that we live in a time when Republicans will deny things that are crystal clear.

I almost believe him because many homophobic frat bros do joke around like that because they think being gay is funny. But that video goes on for a while.

Yeah. At first I thought, without any supporting evidence, he doesn't have a leg to stand on. But these attacks suggest he was telling the truth and this is retribution.

Republican theme song...I'm against it.

I don't know what they have to say
It makes no difference anyway
Whatever it is, I'm against it
No matter what it is or who commenced it
I'm against it

Your proposition may be good
But let's have one thing understood:
Whatever it is, I'm against it
And even when you've changed it or condensed it
I'm against it

I'm opposed to it
On general principles, I'm opposed to it
[CONGRESS]
He's opposed to it
In fact, indeed, he's opposed to it

For months before my son was born
I used to yell from night till morn
"Whatever it is, I'm against it."
And I've been yelling since I first commenced it
I'm against it
Ye Olde Farte
Double Ought Forty

Keeping up with Cawthorn is just about to be scheduled on E! if these videos keep coming out.

It seems telling that his comment isn't blaming these video releases on "the dirty libs" or "the lying media"...which he's done for every other thing since, well, ever.

I'm sure he knows exactly who is doing this to him.

"I'm sure by now many of you have seen the video featuring me trying to have sex with an eclair on the playground of an elementary school. I just want to say, who hasn't been young and passionate about desserts? The Swamp wants you to see me as being morally bankrupt, but the truth is I'm morally swole! What happened between me and the eclair was consensual and beautiful! What those kids near the swings were a party to was a meaningful adult moment. They all came away from that encounter understanding what a loving relationship was. I've helped usher them all into adulthood in a responsible manner.

Now, there may be a video coming out soon featuring me and what appears to be a monkey dressed in a Kermit the Frog costume. I just want to head that off by noting the monkey is a cousin of mine, and a good friend. Mr. Bubbles and I grew up together and we liked to clown around. The jumper cables and car battery you'll see in the video were merely props and I never actually connected them."

It's both. We see the hypocrisy, but you can bet that whatever GOPers are smearing him are doing so with confidence that the suggestion of homosexuality will erase his support with the base.

Everything the right complains the left is doing is just a way for them to draw attention away from the fact that they're doing it.

DeSantis signs bill mandating communism lessons in classes.

Don't teach kids that racism is bad, or that being gay doesn't mean you have to be alone....but do teach them about the immediate threat of something from our parent's generation!

As for their loud complaints about cancel culture being a left wing thing? Say to hi to Disney and the consequences of disagreeing with the right.

Sadly, they're going to be in power soon again, I suspect.

It's also part of a longer game. The next steps will be to insert examples of otherwise centrist or progressive values as socialist/communist. This type of foresight is why DeSantis is at the top of the list of potential authoritarians we were afraid were going to appear.

I mentioned it in the SCOTUS thread, so I figured I should put it here

The fashwave-inspired aesthetic that Marjorie Taylor Greene adopted a few days ago is spreading among GOP candidates and strategists. This will likely be how pro-Trump cryptofascists differentiate themselves online from mainstream Republicans.

Hawley moves to strip Disney of its copyrights. I'm no fan of ever expanding copyright but targeting based on their "wokeness" is unacceptably extreme and performative.

The 2024 GOP nomination race is on and the players think winning is a matter of showing how radical they can be.
Sen. Josh Hawley introduced a bill on Tuesday that aims to revoke Disney’s copyrights, as Republicans are seeking to outdo each other in attacking the “woke” corporation.

Hawley’s bill would dramatically rewrite U.S. copyright law, shortening the total term available to all copyright holders going forward by several decades. It would also seek to retroactively limit Disney’s copyrights, effectively stripping the company of much of its intellectual property, in a move that would face several legal obstacles.

“That is a blatantly unconstitutional taking of property without compensation,” said Prof. Paul Goldstein, an intellectual property expert at Stanford Law School.

Hawley’s move comes on the heels of Gov. Ron DeSantis, who signed a bill last month that aims to dissolve the Reedy Creek Improvement District, a 40-square-mile area that Disney controls in Orlando. DeSantis took the action in retaliation for Disney’s opposition to the Parental Rights in Education bill — dubbed “Don’t Say Gay” by its opponents — that restricts classroom discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Also meanwhile. Not one loon. A half-dozen candidates. Perdue in GA started a debate by saying 2020 was stolen. It's getting worse by the day now. I can't process that these guys are going to potentially expand running on these insane positions.

“Are you a racist? Do you hate Mexicans?” Vance asked with a smirk in one ad that his team released last month. “The media calls us racist for wanting to build Trump’s wall. They censor us, but it doesn’t change the truth. Joe Biden’s open border is killing Ohioans, with more illegal drugs and more Democrat voters pouring into this country.”

We should have little choice. The labor participation rate for the 25-54 age bracket across all ages, races, and genders is essentially maxed out here. Foreign-born men have a +10% edge in the participation rate compared to native-born men (hard to tease out the why but probably mostly because they are younger). Or we need to automate heavily. But then again these aren't policy arguments they are making.
