Curt Schilling is apparently considering a Congressional run in Arizona, supported (of course) by Hair Furor.

Great pitcher and patriot? Why not include successful business owner that was supported by the tax payers of RI? That seems like a huge thing to leave off one's resume.

Re: Political Randomness
The same Curt Shilling who went off on Terrorism and the evils of islam in 2015 after the nightclub shooting in Florida but hasn't mentioned anything about the white supremacist terrorism shooting after shooting after shooting since?
The one who thinks transgender equates to child rapist?
The steroid user?
The adulterer?
I have seen no signs that he has reformed from any of this. It's your business if that's who you are. It bigger than your business when you want to a legislator at the highest level.
What a patriot.

When you list it all out I think he has his sights too low. He could probably petition Trump to be the next Supreme Court Justice, given everything we know.

Re: Political Randomness
Schilling may not be as inept as I thought. This is a move to get a place at the feed trough and he doesn't really have much of a reputation to lose.
The high point of Schilling's career, to me, is when he did a Leroy Jenkins (before Leroy Jenkins was a thing) to Doug Glanville in EverQuest.
He's always been an outspoken Republican though so at least he's consistent.

On the plus side, I'd love to see him get his fellow politicians to play Advanced Squad Leader during recesses.

Yeah, while I was confirming how much he fleeced the state of RI for, I was surprised to learn how much he loves ASL and that he bought into Multi-Man-Publishing to help keep it alive. I really had no idea.

EverQuest is not an online version of Dungeons and Dragons. For fuck's sake, this is why you don't allow sports journalists to write about anything other than sports.Clueless journalist wrote:As Glanville remembers this poignant tale, he and Schilling were playing a computer game called "EverQuest" -- an online version of Dungeons and Dragons.

I especially loved his snide little asides when mentioning the characters the guys were playing in the game. He adds "whatever that is" to each mention. Way to be condescending, asshole.

Re: Political Randomness
Jayson Stark is an excellent baseball writer who relayed a fun story in a relatable way, even for those who don't play video games. "Online version of Dungeons and Dragons" is a perfectly cromulent shorthand for Everquest for an audience that may not be familiar with MMORPGs. Frankly, I think you're kind of looking to be offended if that piece offended you.
Plus Doug Glanville is awesome.

It's just a lifetime of ego being bruised that everything we've been passionately geek about for a past time for our entire lives has been reduced to "like Dungeons and Dragons". While it's cromulent, it hurts that it's cromulent. Or maybe it's a source of pride that it's cromulent and YK is offendedbragging or whatever version of humblebrag terminology you can fit here.ImLawBoy wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 2:27 pm Jayson Stark is an excellent baseball writer who relayed a fun story in a relatable way, even for those who don't play video games. ... And how can you have a name like Stark and reduce fantasy to D&D?... or spell Jason Jayson for that matter?

Re: Political Randomness
I've got no defense for the spelling of his name, but keep in mind that this article was written in 2001, well before Game of Thrones was a cultural touchpoint. And it's worth noting that this is an article for baseball fans. Those of us who are also gamers already know what Everquest is. He's not going to spend a lot of space describing Everquest and MMORPGs to his non-gamer audience, because it's not really the point of the story. (Plus he's obviously not a gamer either, so trying to provide more detail would probably only cause more inadequate comparisons.) A quick comparison to something more well known, even if it's not a perfect comparison, lets his audience know that we're in a sword and sorcery type of realm with players adventuring against monsters. It let's him get right to the funny parts.LordMortis wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 3:26 pmIt's just a lifetime of ego being bruised that everything we've been passionately geek about for a past time for our entire lives has been reduced to "like Dungeons and Dragons". FWIW, Stark is also a geek - he's just a geek about baseball.

Baseball is the bat version of tennis.
I'm pretty sure I originally saw that EverQuest story in Baseball America, back when it was a printed weekly. Total baseball geekdom. I think it was before the Stark column but I can't be sure.
