A controversial conservative Catholic organization is urging parents to “Hide the Pride” during Pride Month — by checking out any LBGTQ-related books they see at their local libraries so that no children will see them.
The group, CatholicVote, says “recent polls” show “American moms and dads do not want their children exposed to sexual and ‘trans’ content as part of their education.” The group says parents can inconspicuously check out materials and place them away from children at home.

I would think that libraries probably look at what's getting checked out when deciding what books to acquire, so maybe they're just helping to make the LGBT section larger in the future?

Every day, they continue to re-define and expand what it means to be deplorable.
LGBTQ ally parents, they're coming for you.
It is now a widespread belief on the right that you should be arrested, have your kids taken away if you allow your kid to see a drag queen.

https://time.com/6188059/pride-lgbtq-pr ... -violence/At least 11 different LGBTQ Pride events across the United States have been disrupted by right-wing protesters or delayed due to threats of violence in the past two months, according to research by TIME and the progressive media watchdog group Media Matters. Those numbers reflect a “step up in aggressive activity targeting LGBTQ people,” compared to recent history, according to Peter Montgomery, a senior fellow with Right Wing Watch, a project by the progressive group People For the American Way.

I do find some hope on the fact that we've seen this before, the PMRC, Satanic Panic, teletubbies are gay movement, etc. They all ended up dying out. Although this seems far weighter, probably because of the reach and magnification of social media.

I think it feels weightier because it's not just fringe lunatics from the community saying these things. There are local, state and federal elected officials that are broadcasting and amplifying the same message. Sure, the PMRC was all the "Washington Wives" of politicians, but the politicians themselves were not fund raising and campaigning on the idea that Dee Snider needed to be put in jail.

Technically, Monty Python and Kids in the Hall were all drag queens. And Shakespeare. That’s wholesome classical entertainment.

True, good point. The way has been orchestrated, embedding fringe actors in low level elected roles at such a large scale, is fairly unprecedented. Saturation is broad and deep.Smoove_B wrote: ↑Thu Jun 16, 2022 3:17 pm I think it feels weightier because it's not just fringe lunatics from the community saying these things. I will say that Dee Snider was hauled in front of Congress so there was definitely some legislative buy-in. That he calmly wrecked Tipper, and by extension Al, wasn't a given.

This is also a direct descendant and arguably intensification of other recent attacks such as the bathroom bills. The 'Don't Say Gay' bill is also in this orbit. I'll say it again I interface with these communities on a regular basis and some are them are extremely concerned. And I can't blame them.

Re: LGBT issues thread (was Supreme Court to hear same-sex marriage cases)
We recently had an incident at our local library where a bunch of Proud Boy types "protested" a Pride Month storytelling hour. According to several posts from people who were there, police were called when a significant number of protesters showed up outside the event yelling profanities and accosting people going in.
Once the police showed up, they not only allowed the verbal harrassment to continue, they openly let the Proud Boys enter the library and continue their rants, disrupting patrons and scaring the kids. Library staff (not police officers) kept the protesters from coming into the room with the kids, but the Proud Boys continued screaming at the kids and parents from the hallway.
The storytime had to be discontinued and crying children and mothers had to be taken out a side door while the protesters continued to scream obscenities.
The media and law enforcement largely downplayed the event, claiming no protesters accosted anyone inside the building, which contradicts multiple posts from people at the event. (Posters also posted pictures showing the Proud Boys inside the library and at the door of the room where the storytelling was occurring, so the police version of events is complete bullshit - there are receipts).
It's only a matter of time until stuff like this turns violent/deadly, and in this incident it's fortunate those there to disrupt were content to just yell.
P.S. Every one of these Billy Bad-Asses were wearing full coverage face masks. Because when you show up to bully small children and young mothers, anonymity is key.

Proud Boys stormed the Pine Valley Public Library in Wilmington, North Carolina. I did some research from people who witnessed things on the ground and took pictures, and it would seem that not only was the Sheriff's office ineffective - they ESCORTED the proud boys to the room!

This is one where the escort might not be what it seems. Having once presided over a public space...you often have your hands tied about who can visit and what they can say and do. The police may have accompanied them to make sure they kept their "protest" to legally permissible speech.
Though it does appear as is typical the police flat out lied about their conduct so who knows. Maybe it was as bad as it appeared and they weren't smart enough to give a plausible defense.

So now that Roe is out, what’s next, gay marriage? I assume that’s on the wishlist somewhere, maybe #5 instead of #2 though.

Every day. Every day is worse than the day before.
This school board in FL voted that if an LGBTQ child is in a P.E. class or attending an overnight trip that ALL the parents in their class will receive a notification about it, which essentially paints these children as sex offenders that require warnings.
