[Adult Swim] Rick and Morty

Dan Harmon (yes, of Community fame) and Justin Roiland bring you Rick and Morty. Imagine if Doc Brown was Marty's grandfather and Marty was a freshman in HS. Now imagine Marty's not really smart and Doc brown has a substance abuse problem.

Add in the voice of Cyril Figgis from Archer and Sarah Chalke from Scrubs as the parents.

I just started watching the first season of the show online on Adult Swim. Holy crap is this funny, intelligent, mean, witty and cynical.

Just watch this little clip

On a side note, Harry Shearer just announced that he's leaving The Simpsons.

I love Rick and Morty. I picked up the Blu Ray set a few months back and have watched a few episodes more than once. So dark...and so funny.

Oh, and if you want to spoil it, here's the couch gag for this coming Sunday.
Spoiler:
It also mentions Season 2 starts on July 26th. :ninja:

What a fortuitous bump. I expected to fall asleep to American Dad last night as often do on weeknights but Rick and Morty was on instead. So I watched for the first time and was rather surprised that I enjoyed it. It's totally not my thing but I still enjoyed it. If it came on at 22:00 when I'm readying myself for sleep every night, I'd add them to my ritual of "watching but not caring or even really paying attention before I go to bed TV"

This show never fails to deliver. Rick's initial response to Summer's inquiry as to helping them had my wife rolling with laughter.

Tiny Rick FTW.

But the end bumper was what caused me to almost spit up my drink.

Coach Feratu?? He actually named himself Coach Feratu?? From now on, when a vampire is trying to pass himself off as human, let's go with something like Alan Jefferson, okay?!

edit: it's up on youtube already.

I need to go back and watch the first season of this. Even though it really seems like it shouldn't be me kind of cartoon, it's become a can't miss for me every week. The Coach Feratu thing was hi-sterical.

And with the drop all week long, I've found myself singing to myself "Let me out. Let me out. This is not a dance." to the music of "You're My Kind" by INXS all week. I don't know why.

What other show ends with a naked old man murdering a baby with an axe...and it's funny?

I'm very late to adopt this show, but TiVo has been grabbing old episodes for a few weeks now and it's definitely top-shelf material. Last night I watched Total Rickall and it pushed me from "this is good" to "this is great". I love when cartoons introduce random ridiculous characters (every episode of the Venture Bros. that features them is a winner) and that's pretty much all this episode does. Hamurai? Reverse Giraffe? Baby Wizard? Duck with Muscles? Classic.

The only time this show fails to deliver the goods is when they do their improv show once a year. Other than that, it's a gem. It's intelligent, silly, dark, and ultimately hilarious.

I think if you don't have an element of cynicism in you, you're not going to find it funny.

Being able to identify with both Rick and Morty is one of the reasons its so good.

Holy shit, when Morty succumbs to bloodlust during "the purge" and threatens to pull Rick's guts out and smear them all over his face, while Rick casually tazes him while apologizing for him to the girl...that is one of the funniest scenes ever.

Plus...ball fondlers.

You and me both. 1.5 seasons through, every time I saw an ad I thought "who would waste their time on B grade cartoon doing B grade things all of the time." From the outside, it looked like everything I don't find interesting in some cartoons, like the ones they keep introducing and killing on Fox pretty much every year.

I was sooooo wrong.

The creativity involved in this show is mind blowing to me. That's what really pulled me in. It never stops. Every premise is ridiculous and introduces a whole new level of throw away ridiculous characters and then proceeds to develop a "normal"ish story line around it but this normalish story is somehow both normal and completely over the top except that everyone treats it normal. Just... This sums up the show...

I can't tell if I like the improv or not.

If actually feels like what I thought R&M would be that I wouldn't like.

I've come to the conclusion that anyone with 4 dollars and a phone can get Werner Herzog to appear on their tv show/podcast/high school musical/lunch break.

For the last 2 days, Get Schwifty has been stuck in my head. Just when I think the show can't get any weirder, there was this episode.

The voice actors from Rick and Morty are reading an actual court transcript from Georgia. The words are from an actual court of law, between a judge and a defendant.

For game play, each player draws a Request card that details simple tasks like "Make me a Sandwich" or "I want to be a More Complete Woman" that has an associated roll of the dice for completion. Give the dice a roll to see if you complete the Request. If not, players must press the button and summon a Mr. Meeseeks. Each Mr. Meeseeks card will either help you out or hurt your chances. Keep drawing Mr. Meeseeks until your Request is complete. Score points by completing Requests or doing crazy, embarrassing Dares. We know which one you're gonna pick.

SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT

IMDB is suggesting Season 3 will start on 4/24. Considering information posted on IMDB regarding the possible January start was squashed, I'm trying to remain hopeful.
