Philly is definitely an Easy Coast city, even if it's not technically on the coast. Is it an "Atlantic Coast" city? That's getting outside my wheelhouse but doesn't fire off any major alarm bells.

But guess what, Oz says plenty of dumb shit that he wholly intends to and that's more the measure of the man than gaffes/non-gaffes.

Coming from someone who sometimes wonders how Michigan can be part of the Midwest. When we are in the eastern time zone and there is a thing called the Great Lakes region, I'm not a good judge but I lump Pennsylvania in with the NorthEast/North Atlantic and as far as I know all their sports teams caucus that way except the Steelers who lump in with Ohio and Baltimore.

Again as an outsider, there is already plenty enough to never want to hear from Oz again and it's already implicit that he's a carpetbagger with less ties to PA than Clinton had to NY and that's long since been accepted or it hasn't by the voters.

There is no Midwest Time Zone. Indiana is EST, too.

Oh totally and Philly is an 'east coast' city for sure but I wouldn't say that about Pittsburgh - it is a state with a broad character. I think it's more of a slip in the sense that he says Atlantic Coast since he's so used to being from...NJ. It'll be good ad fodder and that's about it.

I don't think the Oz statement is really important. His policy statements are far worse.

As for East Coast status, I don't think it has to follow state lines. Philadelphia is an East Coast city, but Pittsburgh isn't. NYC is obviously East Coast, but Buffalo isn't.

And of course "East Coast" is also a political category. Charleston and Savannah and Miami all have Atlantic ocean beaches, but are they East Coast in the same way as Baltimore and Boston?

The important thing is to recognize that New Jersey does not really exist. The northern part is New York suburbs and the southern part is Pennsylvania beaches.

I actually shed a tear for the loss of democracy. What I wonder is what will happen when the vast majority of Americans who favor democracy, fairness, the rule of law, etc., come to realize they can't have nice things. When a Repugnican economic downturn inevitably happens and they try to vote the bastards out, but even though they have the votes it doesn't work.

After the '24 elections, one or more red states will override results they don't like in order to install their dictator, and SCOTUS will be Yep, that's cool.

What saddens me most is the thought of all the soldiers who died defending democracy over the centuries, only for our generation to vote it out of existence.

The seeds of destruction were sewn when the founders did not trust the common man (or women, heaven forbid) to decide. A Republic ruled by the wealthy landowners is what they set up, and it's what we got. How naive.

Not to derail the thread, but this depressing-but-accurate monologue really highlights what I hate about Maher's delivery: the smug pause for applause.

All the late-night hosts do it, but most of them are skilled enough to hide it. Colbert, for example, knows how to deliver a laugh-line and then keep talking conversationally, pausing only after the applause has begun and sometimes not even then.

Maher, on the other hand, hits the line and then folds his hands and waits for his reward (which sometimes comes a beat late because the line wasn't really all that funny). It's irksome.

Yeah. I think you’ve highlighted part of his delivery that irks me too.

I also think he dabbles in ‘both-sides’isms that aren’t helpful.

His pause only works when there are no laughs and he is forced to ad lib.

The pause is annoying, but I think even more annoying is the smugness. I would not want to hang out and have a beer with this guy.

OTOH could just be part of his TV persona, but I doubt it.

“Smug condescension”

He also did a really well-done monologue about a year or two ago, probably in same vein (have not watched this one), about the seriousness of the state of things politically. It was about as even and serious a piece as I’ve seen from him, and did not make me want to punch him while he delivered it.

Clearly a White Claw. The MSM would have us believe its a beer. And why is Cruz's reaction time that of a drunk archaeology professor emeritus? He tries to block his defender and not the beverage can. Was it a pass rather than an attack?

What else are they not telling us?

KHOU
According to court documents, Arcidiacono, 33, is charged with aggravated assault after launching two unopened 12-ounce cans of liquor at Cruz during the parade. His bail was set at $40,000.
...
Cruz later tweeted, saying he was thankful for the quick actions taken by police, and also said he was thankful for Arcidiacono's "noodle for an arm."
I'm surprised he didn't go the other way.

"I am the same senator that is keeping peaceful protesters from Nov. 9 in prison, is refusing to answer questions about denying elections, is devoting their resources not to actually going after bad guys, but to trying to target and punish their political opponents," Cruz said. "And it is wrong and it's profoundly dangerous."

Why was he in the parade anyway? Did he do something to contribute to the win?

(though, no I do not endorse throwing cans. He just makes it incredibly hard to not endorse throwing cans at him)

See? Now it's "cans of liquor." Next week it'll be cans of oil recently released oil from the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Wake up, sheeple. Don't be woke, of course, but wake up.

Also, should Cruz really be the one to attack anyone's athleticism?
