Helldivers - Now on Steam
OK this game is soooo much fun. Basically Starship Troopers 4 player co-op with friendly fire on. The game rocks. Friend me up on Steam and let's play.

I saw this on Steam last night and read up on it on my phone on the way home tonight. I meant to post earlier but forgot.
I'll definitely be taking a closer look at this one.

Game is pretty good, nice and easy to drop in and out of games but it is pretty difficult, well for me but am enjoying it when I get a chance to play.
Should be on at Weekend

It is really a blast. It forces teamwork and the player base seems to be very cooperative. There are a ton of weapons and abilities to unlock and multiple difficulty missions. Really well put together game.

Hopefully it goes on sale for Christmas. I should have a new system in January and my kids and I can try this game out multiplayer.

Anyone else interested if it hits the Steam sale? I'm really hoping for a 4-pack, though there is some noise that Valve is preventing devs from offering new 4-pack deals, in theory due to the refund/keyresellers abuse...GreenGoo wrote:Hopefully it goes on sale for Christmas. Just for completeness (I've already said I'm in in the Steam thread in Bargains) I'll just post that I'm in for any 4 pack deal. 100% in. I'm definitely buying the game this sale so hopefully we can save a few extra bucks with a four pack.Pyperkub wrote:Anyone else interested if it hits the Steam sale? I haven't been paying attention. I know they said that when a game goes on sale for the holidays it won't go for a lower price later in the sale. That said, if a game isn't on sale on Day 1 does that mean it won't go on sale later?

Ah..ok...I figured that they might add games to the sale as the sale went on on order to keep traffic going to the site

Re: Helldivers - Now on Steam
I'm likely to pick this up when my new system arrives. I'm tempted to hold off until it is on sale because I'm a petulant child and I'm miffed they didn't even throw 10% off for the holidays (while it was on sale briefly when it arrived on Steam) but I need something that is more fun and requires less mental energy (or a different kind of mental energy) than the strategy heavy titles I'm currently playing.
Also, my human contact reservoir is low, and multiplayer can fill it up.

The DLC does add some nice new items. My favorite is the pilot pack. It give you immediate access to a really cool mech. However, all the items required to beat the harder missions are unlockable.

Re: Helldivers - Now on Steam
This just went on sale at Steam yesterday so you get the base game for $14. I am going to need a 3-pack for my household, so was hoping the DLC was simply nice to have, and not essential stuff. Has the opinion on the DLC changed from that stated above (e.g. nice to have but necessary to enjoy the game)?
Reviews on Steam seem to indicate otherwise, but I trust this forum more than Steam's. Thanks

Re: Helldivers - Now on Steam
I'm not a huge multiplayer person, so I have a couple questions...
1. How well does the game play single player?
2. What's the average behavior of people online (dumber than AI, good, great)?
3. Is there any way or incentive for people to grief you?

1. It works so-so as a single player game. You will get to a point though where you will not be able to do probably 25-30% of the missions. It is designed as co-op multiplayer.
2. In my experience pretty good. Not a lot of jerks that I have run into.
3. Oh god yes they can grief you. Friendly fire is 100% always on. Their is no incentive for them to grief, however.

I'll pick up a copy if we still have OO'ers playing it.
Base + all DLC is pushing 30 bucks. I'll still jump in if we have an active community playing.
Also, I will suck. You will die by my hand.
Sorry.

Re: Helldivers - Now on Steam
One nice thing about this it comes in bite sized chunks. You can do a mission in 10-15 minutes. You can clear a planet well less than an hour, so dropping in and out is no biggie.

Re: Helldivers - Now on Steam
I've gifted a couple base game ($13.99) copies to Steam friends list folks who had on wishlist. Though it turns out one doesn't have a PC at all at the moment. At least now he has a reason to get one again.
On Steam the "mission time" and the Steam "hours played" are drastically different. I guess the game only measures time "in mission," whereas Steam counts every second the game''s running, something like that. I think I have about 87 Steam "hours played" in the PC version, maybe something more like 60 or so hours of actual mission time. On Vita I put in about 39 hours.
While I loved it on Vita, the stubby thumbs ticks caused control precision issues fairly often, and I never got comfortable using the "back touchpad swipe" move or touch screen swipes for certain maneuevers. I also had difficulty hosting games with PS3/PS4 players in terms of connection reliability.
