I love how they've pumped up the sound of theme music. I feel this will be the last Indiana Jones movie we'll ever get.

I mean, unless Harrison Ford's on adrenochrome, yeah.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

They could always go for a younger actor, like the who who portrayed Han in Solo, to make movies set during the big gap.

Damn it I hate being made to feel cautiously optimistic when I know almost certainly that I'll be let down. The reality is that even if this film is somehow great, or at least passable (legitimately passable, not "The Force Awakens"-passable), it cannot possibly live up to my expectations or serve as the next/final chapter that I'd want. The Last Crusade is THE movie of my childhood, that's stuck with me as one of my greatest favourites throughout my life.

The de-aging tech continues to improve, but it's still not good enough to not distract me. :? I do think the film had to be partially set in the past to have any chance at being good, as well as including a Nazi plot/subplot. And Mikkelsen is an inspired if not obvious choice for the villain. And regardless of the use of CGI and doubles, the trailers make it look like Ford has really pulled off the role again despite his advanced age. But I can think of few if any decades-delayed sequels that have been good once the dust settled. The ones that have been have typically distanced themselves from the original film(s) significantly (e.g. Blade Runner 2049). Terminator Dark Fate almost did it for me but it was still largely a regurgitated nostalgia-trip.

Is it just me, or is the title "Dial of Destiny" just kinda awkward/underwhelming?

It seems like a lame synonym for the 'Wheel of Fortune'.

Any chance of a Pat Sajak cameo?

On the other hand, it's exactly the kind of thing that you would see in the genre to which Indy is homage.

I suppose that's an appropriate color of Dial for a Nazi film.

I'm not sure I quite follow. But if you are saying it's in the vein of 'lost arks' and 'fountains of youth', I will give you that point. But it still just comes off as a bit of a 'Really?! "The Dial of Destiny"' thing for me... (as BH gave light to, in his list of titles)...

Now I understand this isn't a 'wheel of fortune' type 'dial of destiny'. It's nothing like the Mad Max Thunderdome's "Bust a Deal, Face the Wheel" type contraption - but rather it is (from the trailer appears to be) more of an Antikythera mechanism, with a clever story behind it... So, I don't mean to be too disparaging about it - but my family had just come from the theater to see the D&D move (most excellent!) and the entire family couldn't get over the posters that revealed its title. It's complete fodder for 16 yr-old mockeries.

Classic pulps had plenty of absurd titles, no doubt, but how many of the people in potential audience have any knowledge of them, and how many people just see the title and are turned off by how weak it is?

Yeah, I feel like the other movies in the series had more dignified while still pulpy titles. I can totally see Dial of Destiny as a pulp/radio drama title from that era though. But it's also got that clumsy alliteration that IMO makes it sound more like the title of mediocre young adult story. As BH says, most people won't get the reference.

I was thinking "sundial" but it doesn't seem to be quite that. I think the prop is neat from what I can see, but it's a little... cheap-looking/bulky.

I'm fine with the prop. Oddly - it's what gives me a little bit of a feeling like it's going to make this a neat story about some countdown that is bestowed upon some fabled ancient Antikythera device. And the device in the image you showed is just mind-blowingly small for any device from such ancient times... it's the size of a GameBoy!

Always wished for an Indiana Jones and The Search for Atlantis other than a game. But I see it wont happen with this cast and leaders due to age. Maybe the next generation of actors of Indy can take it on.

Just got home from seeing this and the wife and I loved it! A definite improvement over the last one.
We talked about the previous one on the way home, and it wasn't so much the story in Crystal Skulls, as it was Shia LaBeouf, and trying to jam him into the story and make the future about him.
Of course, they took care of him in this movie...
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.
