RIP Prince

Post by stessier »

That's all the information we have right now - police are investigating a death at Prince's home and they aren't releasing the name until next of kin is notified.

Edit :Changed title once confirmed.

Wait...what???

Wow.

The man was odd, but he was a lyrical genius. There's no denying that. And a vastly underrated guitarist to boot.

Hmnmm - from last week:
Music superstar Prince, who has been battling the flu for weeks, was briefly hospitalized in Illinois.

His representative told People magazine his private plane made an emergency landing Friday morning and the Grammy Award-winner was transported to a hospital in Moline where he was treated and released three hours later.

Prince, 57, is now recuperating at home.

He was forced to re-schedule two shows last week due to his illness, but felt well enough to perform in Atlanta Thursday night before relapsing.
Maybe next year, maybe no go

Rest in Peace, Prince.

This alert came on my phone from our local news and my jaw dropped.

Tremendous loss for the music industry. As odd as he was, Prince was a musical genius - both as a guitar player and songwriter.

A friend of mine and I were just laughing about the Chapelle Show Prince sketch the other day and passing quotes back and forth from it.

I can't find anyone confirming it - just a death at his house.

Searching for news is complicated by the fact that, apparently, a hoax announcement about Prince's death went viral just a couple of days ago. It was denied by Prince's agency, but it's apparently not the same announcement as the one going around now.

Even my friends who didn't personally care for his music would gladly admit he was a total musical genius. What a loss, RIP Prince.

Dammit. I love Prince's music. Been to several of his concerts. The big theatrical ones and the small intimate ones. Great great musician. So sad right now.

Prince was always near top of my personal list of most talented musicians.

If you've never seen his performance of While my guitar gently weeps, do yourself a favor and watch it. Dude was beyond words phenomenal.

There's a reason his 2007 Superbowl performance is usually mentioned as one of the top 5 performances in the history of the event.

I didn't learn (or understand) just what an amazing guitarist he was until I was much older. Past the point of actively listening to his music anyway. Today I have a better understanding of just how phenomenal he was.

Yeah, I've argued about his musical genius ability for years.

Up until today, dude had to have been arguably one of the most gifted musician alive.

Bummer. I wasn't a fan, but neither did I mind his stuff. Some I enjoyed. But he was unique. That can be difficult to find sometimes.

I only know him for a couple of catchy songs but he did seem more talented than most pop stars. I reckon I'll be hearing a lot more of his music in the coming days and weeks.

I've always loved this story from Paul Westerberg about meeting Prince in a bathroom one night at a club.
Prince was rumored to have lurked in the shadows at some of the Replacements shows at First Avenue, but it was in the bathroom of a club in St. Paul where Westerberg finally ran into him.

"Oh, hey," said Westerberg, seeing the dolled-up singer standing next to him at the urinal. "What's up, man?"

Prince turned and responded in cryptic fashion: "Life."
He won. Period.

It's just hard to fathom. Prince just seemed like he would always be. Of course, I felt the same way about Michael Jackson, and see how that turned out. Regardless, I loved a lot of his stuff, was meh on some other stuff, but always watched him when he was on TV. He was so electric. RIP, you sexy muthafucker.

ETA - Thank you for not titling the topic anything along the lines of "When Doves Cry." It seems near every media source is punning off of that.
