"Breakfast Can Wait"
"Breakfast Can Wait" is a song by American recording artist Prince. The single was released on 5 February 2013 on his website 3rdEyeGirl.com and was re-released on 3rdEyeTunes.com on 17 August 2013. The accompanying artwork for the single features comedian Dave Chappelle dressed as Prince and serving pancakes from a 2004 sketch from an episode of Chappelle's Show.

Wow, totally random fact I had no idea about:
I got married the day I wrote [Stand Back]. We were driving to Santa Barbara and a new song by Prince came on[Little Red Corvette], so we pulled over somewhere and got the tape. It just gave me an incredible idea, so I spent many hours that night writing a song about some kind of crazy argument, and it was to become one of the most important of my songs. I've been doing this song for years, Fleetwood Mac does it also, and I never get tired of it. 'Stand Back' has always been my favorite song onstage, because...when it starts, it has an energy that comes from somewhere unknown...and it seems to have no timespace. I've never quite understood this sound....but I have NEVER questioned it.

I become a different person, and I like that, because usually I make up my OWN characters...but the lady in 'Stand Back' was not my idea. By the way, Prince did come into the studio the night I called him and told him about the song, and he played incredible synthesizer on it...and then he just walked out of my life, and I didn't see him for a long time.

It was extraordinary...
~Stevie Nicks, Timespace Liner Notes, 1991

...

I phoned Prince out of the blue, hummed a melody, and he listened," says Nicks of the latter hit's gestation. "I hung up, and he came over within the hour. He listened again, and I said, 'Do you hate it?' He said, 'No,' and walked over to the synthesizers that were set up, was absolutely brilliant for about twenty five minutes, and then left. He was so uncanny, so wild, he spoiled me for every band I've ever had because nobody can exactly re-create - not even with two piano players-what Prince did all by his little self.
~Stevie Nicks, Rock Lives, by Timothy White,1991
He's not credited as playing the keyboard during the song's recording...but to just show up, play they keyboard part and then leave? That's insane.

It was cool to see all of his performances and the after party footage. Once they switched to the skits where their actor played him with Maya Rudolph flanking him as Beyonce, I found something else to do.

I can't even stream a YouTube video and you expect me to get through a whole movie? (yeah, Comcrap blows to that extreme). Question -- were the MTV videos derived from that movie?
I think they were, yeah...but there's so MUCH more in the movie. You are going to LOVE Morris Day!
Watched it for the second time (first time was in the theater in....what, 1984?). Still holds up. Yeah, Morris Day, what a character.

I'm not a big fan of either, but my favorite tributes are definitely Bruce Springsteen and Corey Taylor's rendition of Purple Rain.

My poor wife still can't bare to watch any videos or listen to any of his music. She was raised in a very abusive home and listening to Prince cassettes got her through many a rough day. She told me tonight, "Prince brought me happiness and joy when I thought I had none."

Still can't believe he's gone.

went to see Purple Rain tonight in a theater, having only seen parts of it before. seeing Minneapolis ca. 1983 was a trip. First Ave actually hasn't changed much (i went through those _exact same_ doors so many times! stood against that same railing! stood all over that same floor!)

...and in my head i was thinking "...that's not Lake Minnetonka" about 20 seconds before Prince said it, lol

Chris Cornell's cover of Nothing Compares to You is hauntingly beautiful. Just incredible. Blows away Sinead's version. He lead with this song the other night in Barcelona.

She may be bat shit crazy, but I'm still giving Sinead's version the win on this one. Cornell has the guitar, but Sinead has the voice.

Chris Cornell has no voice? It's his voice that makes that song not his guitar. Well his voice and the Cello, guitar is just bonus. Sinead can sing no doubt but his version gives me chills. Probably the graininess of his voice.

I didn't say he has no voice. I just said that I feel Sinead's is better. To me, she's always been one of the best voices in the music world.

That's a beautiful cover by Cornell, wow. Thanks for sharing that.

However, I really like Sinead's as well. Been a favorite song of mine for years and years.

Just a fantastic song.

I never actually heard Prince perform Nothing Compares 2 U, which not surprisingly sounds so different. I know he was very much against having his work shared on Youtube but it really would be a crime to lose these videos forever.

I saw something once with him talking about playing all the instruments on The Time's record or song. He said the only thing he didn't play was drums.

Loved about everything he did with The Revolution but once he changed his name and made NPG I just didn't like anything. Here in later years he seemed to be returning to the sound and style I liked. And now he is gone :(

Guess it is sorta like Sting. Loved him in Police but not a thing since leaving.

I saw last night that he left no will. If true, that's crazy. Someone had to advise him to get a will together. But as it stands, Minnesota will probably get 8 or 9 figured in taxes.

I like to think he knew that and just loved his home state that much.

HAHA, I have been stalking Prince on Youtube since last week. There has been a ton of new stuff put up the last couple of days. Acoustic unplugged stuff, clips from his 2000 New Years eve party, etc. I'll watch the link above shorty, gotta get some work done today!
