I thought Cruise did a serviceable job, but that actor is more consistent with my mental image.

He was one of the only good things about the Titan series on DC Universe/HBO Max. The guy is friggin' huge. It will be nice to see a Jack Reacher who doesn't need to yell out "UPSIES!" whenever he wants to hit someone over 3 feet in height.

Guess that explains why his character got written out of Titans. I didn't know he stepped up to leading man elsewhere.

Watched and enjoyed. I had always thought of Kilmer as a bloated self-important prick. He is anything but. Tidbit: In his first major play he was third fiddle to Kevin Bacon and Sean Penn. I had forgotten Top Secret, it wasn't that bad.

Actually, I only paid for one episode. The rest was free stretch goals (and more once Amazon picked it up.)

I enjoyed Critical Role, so I'm looking forward to seeing this. In fact, dinner's about ready, so I may go give this a shot...

I'm very, very pleased with what they have turned out so far. The one shot two parter was a great introduction to the team, and we immediately move into the Briarstone Arc? So very happy.

I've recommended this to a couple of folks that do not know Critical Role at all, and they have all loved it so far.

I watched it today while folding laundry and damn if I wasn't impressed. There was the expected burp jokes and foul language, but there was some really serious stuff in there, too. So pleasantly surprised.

Going to start Vox, but I want to finish this LoL Arcane show on Netflix first. It's well done, but a little slow for me. I never played LoL so I don't really know the world/characters.

I watched the first episode. Not being familiar with Critical Role I had no idea what it was all about. It was tonally odd to me as I couldn't figure out who the audience was supposed to be at first. I thought teens, but then the cursing and sex started. I guess it's more targeted towards fans of Critical Role/older D&D players than anything else. Still, it was enjoyable enough.

I watched the first couple episodes last night. Don't know anything about Critical Role, but was decently entertained. A couple times it felt like they were reaching a bit too far into the juvenile "look how much we can curse!" bag of tricks, but it's interesting enough to keep watching. The dragon battle in the second episode was very cool.

Encounter is really good, though it's not the story some will want it to be.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

I've watched the first couple of episodes of Vox Machina, and I'm really enjoying it. And yeah, I'm a Critical Role fan.

For those who aren't familiar with it, voice actor Matt Mercer ran a private Pathfinder (like D&D) campaign for his friends - also voice actors - for a couple of years. We're talking top voice talent, too. He's got half of the cast of Fallout 4, World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Fire Emblem, and more animated shows than I can count all sitting there playing pen-and-paper games together. Felicia Day, back when Geek & Sundry was kicking off, approached them about streaming their games. They switched to Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, and they were one of the two shows that put Geek & Sundry on the map (along with Tabletop.) When Geek & Sundry was sold and went to hell, they went on their own. This show rakes in millions of dollars a year (Twitch gets around 5 million per year as their cut from them, and that's not the only place they air.) They're one of the biggest reasons for the 'roleplaying renaissance' that has happened over the last decade. There are even official D&D books set in his campaign world.

Critical Role launched a Kickstarter a few years ago to produce an animated special based on it's game, to be delivered directly to backers. They needed $750 thousand, of which they earned $11.3 million. By that time they'd bumped the show from a single special to a full season. And then Amazon stepped in, offered additional funding, and guaranteed two full seasons, just based on the live game's popularity and the Kickstarter performance.

So the show has something entirely unique going for it: The world has been 'lived in' for a decade, the people making the show are the same ones who created the original content, and all of the characters are being played by the actors who created them, then spent hundreds of hours growing and developing them purely for the fun of it. That kind of organic world and character development is incredibly rare. It's one hell of an opportunity, and I really hope the show can live up to it.

Episode 1, by the way, with all of the same characters (plus one - Tiberius.) And if you're the D&D type, you can get their 5e character sheets.

I'm 3 episodes into Reacher. It's good, but Sidney Poitier is wearing a little thin, and the story is starting to get bogged down. Kinda like a Jack Reacher novel.

Watched the 4th episode last night, and I'm really enjoying Vox Machina. I came in knowing very little (just that it was an animated version of a long running D&D campaign), and am now completely hooked.

I don't think the first episode makes the best impression (felt like they were trying way too hard to be "edgy"), but it's absolutely brilliant now that the story has kicked in. The world they have built it rich and interesting, and the characters are all fantastic. The stellar voice acting (which is to be expected from this group) really adds a ton to everyone's personality and charm. I find the gnome bard rather annoying, but everyone else is brilliant.

Almost makes me wish I had waited until the full season was out because waiting for weekly episodes it tough.

They're not exactly weekly - they're released in sets of three, so yesterday was episodes 4-6.

Also, I just noticed that episode 4 was written by Ashly Burch from Hey, Ash, Whatcha Playin', and who played Tiny Tina (from Borderlands) and Aloy (from the Horizon games.)

Ah, thanks. I thought it was one episode weekly, so I didn’t even bother looking for the next episode last night.

It’s fun, but I have to ask, should I go back and watch the first series to catch up? I mean, is this just another group of kids who got on the roller coaster, or is this the original group? Also, why haven’t they shown the Dungeon Master yet?

That was my take too. I enjoyed it, but some of the leaps of logic when it came to Reacher suddenly coming up with the answers, or people just showing up where they wanted them to at the exact time they needed to be there, was extensive.
