I guess we can be grateful that Trump didn't go with something from Hugo Boss.Kraken wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 5:31 pm The idea of a space command has been around for decades. It hasn't been worth the cost, so far. Now we have an administration that is bully on taking war capabilities into space and doesn't care about the budget...so if not now, when? If there is an open conflict between major powers, space will be a theater of operations. I wish they weren't wearing jungle camo uniforms...but it's not like they'll be present on the high battlefield.

Trump better have a Wave Motion Gun waiting in the wings. The Gamilas could be right outside our system!

I would love it if they used the theme from Star Blazers for their anthem.

They probably showed him a clip from Star Blazers in the Space Force presentation.

Those dress unis are bad ass.
This coming from a guy who had to learn to not snicker when Space Force was mentioned at work. They're nice people.

Re: Space Force
I say we build an American Voltron instead of creating this new agency (too late I guess). Except instead of panthers it could be made of eagles, that when combined, form one uber bad-ass eagle!
NASA is already handling the exploration side, so Muricatron would have three functions:
1. Deter our enemies in space AND on Earth
2. Give confidence to our few remaining allies
3. Stir us into an even more unhealthy hyper-nationalistic/patriotic frenzy than we already are.

I’m a big fan of the Colonial Fleet look so they should make the buttons black and we’re good to go!
Or they should just go full Captain Harlock…

Re: Space Force
The reason these uniforms are lame:
Military dress uniforms are traditionally just decorated versions of semi-formal suits from the period of the uniform's establishment. They lag behind fashion, but only barely. When they look especially old-fashioned (as with the USMC's dress blues), it's because the style was established and kept from a previous era. Today's Army and Air Force dress uniforms (as well as the USMC's dress browns) look like business suits from the 1950s with medals and epaulets attached.
This Space Force stuff, on the other hand, is an obvious attempt to establish a futuristic look. That's just not how it's done. It looks less like a uniform than a costume, and that's embarrassing.
I predict they'll revert to something basically like an Air Force dress uni within ten years.

Re: Space Force
Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael), SEPTEMBER 22, 2021
Today, Representative Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) introduced the No Militarization of Space Act, to abolish the costly and unnecessary Space Force. This comes as Congress moves to pass the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the annual bill that authorizes funding for the Pentagon.
...
Huffman was joined in the introduction by Representatives Mark Pocan (WI-02), Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04), Rashida Tlaib (MI-13), and Maxine Waters (CA-43).
This legislation is endorsed by Taxpayers for Common Sense, National Taxpayers Union, Peace Action, R Street Institute, and Demand Progress.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Re: Space Force
Empty gesture, although it *would* save some money to just fold Space Force responsibilities back into the Air Force where they came from.

Re: Space Force
Or maybe just 'temporarily' put Space Force directly under the Air Force, then quietly forget to make it a separate branch later. And if, a couple of years from now, the Air Force were to give it a name change to something less 1960s, nobody would really notice...
In other words, yeah - give the responsibility back to the Air Force, but do it in a way that most people don't notice is even happening.

It's still part of the Department of the Air Force.

Re: Space Force
Right, just as the USMC is in the Dept of the Navy. But it costs more money to run it as a service of its own.
