Neon Abyss is the freebie today.

Took me a few stabs at it. The site must have been hit hard right at release when I was waiting there.

Their site was a complete mess yesterday, when I tried to claim Shenmue it went into a loop and tried to load the checkout page over and over before it finally locked me out, and today it still said I had to wait 24 hours before I could claim a free game so I wasn't able to claim that game at all. Being locked out for 24 hours seems way too harsh when it's their server that caused the problem in the first place and the game is only available for 24 hours.

They have a $10 coupon that applies to anything worth 24.99 or more. It seems if you use it to buy a game, you get ANOTHER coupon, until you run out of games to buy or the offer expires Jan 6th.

$14.99. In fact, their store's 'browse' function has a $14.99 and up filter just for the coupon. They've done this since their first big sale, when they tried to super-discount a couple of games and the developers got pissy. Now, instead of discounting the games, they give a blanket extra $10 off of everything in the form of a coupon. It lets them charge lower prices, but they're not making the developers mad by showing low prices on their products.

I nabbed Edge of Eternity for $8 with the coupon. It's..... a less-than-polished JRPG From a French indie developer (FRPG?) Fun enough for $8 but glad I didn't pay $30 for it.

My Epic library is now close to the size of my Steam library and yet I've only played seven games out of it. Three of which I paid for and was disappointed with all three.

Their model is interesting, though. After a 2.5 years, the volume of free games I have there is enough that I consider making purchases there over Steam or GoG. My library, though almost completely unused, is now something I would care not to lose. I may want to play one of these 60+ games... someday...

I'm waiting for the give aways to end before I figure out if I want to look around and make use of the $10. I'd hate to buy something and then feel burned if they gave it away. I'm that way.

Loop Hero is interesting. I played it a few times and still don't know what I'm doing. Thanks for the link, I'll read through that next... I'm sure my strategy of just plopping down tiles anywhere is wrong.

Another great game. I found it a better successor to System Shock than Bioshock was. Bioshock had the same design philosophy, but Prey had the same design philosophy, atmosphere, (general) setting, and feel.

In case anyone was wondering-

Epic have put out their year-in-review, looking at how the Epic Games Store performed across 2021. The takeaways: the store now has 194 million PC users, up 34 million from 2020; the number of games on the store is now 917, nearly double from the year before; and the weekly free game giveaways will continue in 2022.
