One of the contestants tonight didn't know the final Jeopardy answer so he wrote "We <3 you Alex" and as Alex read it he realized what it said and almost broke into tears. He barely finished saying it and the next sentence from him too.

If he keeps this up he could surpass Alan Thicke as the greatest Canadian of all time.

My sister's father-in-law received a Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer diagnosis roughly the same time as AT received his.

He died the day after his 64th birthday.

Spoiler:
1. Tommy Douglas
2. Terry Fox
3. Pierre Trudeau
4. Sir Frederick Banting
5. David Suzuki
6. Lester B. Pearson
7. Don Cherry
8. Sir John A. MacDonald
9. Alexander Graham Bell

This was in 2004. I would straight up disqualify Don Cherry. Seriously, what was he doing anywhere close to this list?

I would question whether acting ability and fame makes one 'greater' than the accomplishments of some of the statesmen, scientists, and inventors in the original list.

You're of course viewing it via what Americans have solely been exposed to. Domestically, those in that list have done their fair share to have earned being on the list (Excemption Don Cherry). That's also completely discounting those in the list who are in it for reasons other than fame, but rather contributed in other ways, such as Terry Fox, who in the 80's had cancer, had to have his leg amputated and nearly ran across the entirety of Canada in a campaign to raise money and awareness about cancer research before he succumbed to his illness. He made it as far as Thunder Bay in Ontario.

Sad day. We all knew it was going to happen, but it's still shocking. I bought his autobiography recently and plan on reading it soon. I wonder if my city will have some sort of service for him, as that's where he was born. My city should perhaps name their new public library after him.

2020 No one gets out alive!.....Seems that way,

So he lived about a year and a half after diagnosis. RIP Alex. Seen him SO many years of my life. Weird that he is gone now even though I knew it was a death sentence he had been handed. Nobody like Alex. Condolences to family and friends.

Answer - He was a great game show host.
Question - Who was Alex Trebek.

So, my city, where he was born in the 40's, is talking about the possibility of renaming the public library in his honour. The 'Who is Alex Trebek Memorial Library' is being bandied about.

I have fond memories of watching Jeopardy at my grandparents' home in the early 90s before my grandfather passed away. They'd always watch the news at six, and then Wheel of Fortune followed by Jeopardy at seven. When my granddad died this tradition went with him. (My grandmother's still around, turning 93 next week.)

My other grandfather actually met Trebek during his career as a broadcaster. I believe they were on some trip together in the U.S. as Canadian media personalities. He wasn't too impressed with him, but this may or may not have been based on Trebek's desire to hit a strip club with the group while my grandfather was more socially conservative. Unfortunately we also lost my grandfather earlier this year, so I can't ask him to recount the tale.
