I was thinking of you Sox fans....do you think the Twins fans hate the Yankees more than you do? At least you've beaten them in modern history in the post season.

Heck, we beat them last year! But nonetheless, I doubt that they hate them as much as we do. It's not the same when you're not in the same division (or have as much history).

However, I am sure that (like all real Americans) they hate the Yankees plenty.

I sit next to a Twins fan at work. Boston fans have more hate. First, we're not from the Midwest, so we automatically start out with a deeper well from which we can draw. And second, they are more fatalistic about it (probably a survival trait from the winters).

After the 2003 season, I didn't talk to anyone at work for 2 weeks. Part of it was because I worked with 2 Yankee fans and it was safest for all involved if we didn't interact. The other part was because I just wanted the world to burn. There were some dark times...

I'm afraid I'm in for some dark times if the Dodgers lose tomorrow. Roberts needed to win the series in front of him and use his pitchers appropriately. Worry about the NLCS when you get there, Dave.

While in the end it probably made no difference, since the Dodgers never scored again. But why did they PH for Maeda in the 5th after he had pitched for 1/3 of an inning? With Pollack, who is an automatic out right now. It was like Roberts wanted to get all his pitchers an inning for some reason.

Yeah Maeda is probably more likely to get a hit in that situation than Pollock ever was. He's been a bust this post season for sure.

If Pederson's hit ball is less than an inch to the left, it's a 5-4 game and that would have been interesting. I don't know, like I said, it feels like Roberts is managing so that his pitching staff will be where he wants it for the NLCS instead of managing the game in front of him like Martinez has been. Reminds me of when Pinnella (not sure of spelling) managed the Cubs and saved his ace for the game that never happened.

Might be a minor point, but Maeda pitched 1 1/3 of an inning, not just 1/3 of one.

From the LA Times Dodger report:
Why take out Kenta Maeda? Because he had pitched the day before, had already gone an inning and a third, plus Julio Urias had pitched well. The decision is debatable, but it didn’t really bother me when it was made.

Here is a list of how the Dodgers have done against Strasberg. Not great but could be good enough if Roberts goes with the right lineup (from latimes.com) and Buehler pitches as well as he did the first game:
Matt Beaty, .667 (2 for 3), 1 double, 1 RBI

Russell Martin: .500 (3 for 6)

A.J. Pollock: .412 (7 for 17), 2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 homer, 3 RBIs

Jedd Gyorko: .412 (7 for 17), 2 doubles, 1 homer

Justin Turner: .250 (4 for 16), 2 homers, 6 RBIs

Will Smith: .250 (1 for 4)

Kiké Hernandez: .222 (2 for 9), 2 homers

Joc Pederson: .143 (2 for 14), 1 double, 1 homer

Cody Bellinger: .118 (2 for 17), 1 double

David Freese: .091 (1 for 11)

Corey Seager: .071 (1 for 14), 1 homer

Chris Taylor: .063 (1 for 16)

Max Muncy: .000 (0 for 12)

Alex Verdugo: .000 (0 for 3)

Gavin Lux: .000 (0 for 2)

Team: .191/.276/.382, (33 for 173) 7 doubles, 1 triple, 8 homers, 4 walks, 66 strikeouts

Verlander is having his lunch eaten in this first inning. Sure hope the Astros lose, somehow that would make me feel better about the Dodgers :).

Wow, anyone know where I lost that inning? :) He did only throw 20 pitches though.

I am glad they didn't burn Kershaw last night.

As are the Dodgers. If both teams lose, some fans will ask what's the point of analytics :grund: ? That's all I meant.

Wow the Dodgers can’t afford a decent door in their outfield? :P

Edit: Well, that certainly was a home run though. This will be a hard game to watch.

Edit2: Throughout the season there are those rare games when Strasburg implodes rather spectacularly. Not yet insurmountable but if the Nationals offense struggles then congrats!

Strasburg really settled down but I hope the Nationals can take advantage of his effort.

Wonder if Roberts will be back next year. That's got to be the worst bullpen management ever. He could see Kelly didn't have it. I'm getting me an F Kershaw shirt tomorrow.

Still scared. The Nationals bullpen is where hope goes to die but hopefully Doolittle will do his job.

I just don't understand why teams use starters in roles they are not used to once it gets to the playoffs. Sure, sometimes it works, but more than than not i ends up in a mess. It also disturbs the rest of the bullpen.

Congrats to the Nats, and I hope they trounce the cardinals.
