Heather Cox Richardson's post tonight touches on this (and related topics). I'm pasting in the whole thing rather than try to link a Facebook post. If you won't read the whole thing, skip to the last 3 paragraphs.
July 14, 2021 (Wednesday)
Yesterday, news broke that, under pressure from Republican leaders, Republican-dominated Tennessee will no longer conduct vaccine outreach for minors. Only 38% of people in Tennessee are vaccinated, and yet the state Department of Health will no longer reach out to urge minors to get vaccinated.

This change affects not only vaccines for the coronavirus, but also all other routine vaccines. On Monday, Tennessee’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tim Jones sent an email to staff saying there should be "no proactive outreach regarding routine vaccines" and "no outreach whatsoever regarding the HPV vaccine." The HPV vaccine protects against a common sexually transmitted infection that causes cervical cancer, among other cancers.

Staff were also told not to do any "pre-planning" for flu shots events at schools. Any information released about back-to-school vaccinations should come from the Tennessee Department of Education, not the Tennessee Department of Health, Jones wrote.
On Monday, Dr. Michelle Fiscus, Tennessee's former top vaccine official, was fired without explanation, and Republicans have talked about getting rid of the Department of Health altogether, saying it has been undermining parents by going around them and straight to teens to promote vaccines.

Video editor J.M. Rieger of the Washington Post put together a series of videos of Republicans boosting the vaccine and thanking former president Donald Trump for it only to show the same people now spreading disinformation, calling vaccines one of the greatest scandals in our history, and even comparing vaccines to the horrors of the Nazis.

This begs the question: Why?

Former FBI special agent, lawyer, and professor Asha Rangappa put this question to Twitter. “Seriously: What is the [Republicans’] endgame in trying to convince their own voters not to get the vaccine?” The most insightful answer, I thought, was that the Republican’s best hope for winning in 2022—aside from voter suppression—is to keep the culture wars hot, even if it means causing illness and death.

The Republican Party continues to move to the right. During his time in office, the former president put his supporters into office at the level of the state parties, a move that is paying off as they purge from their midst those unwilling to follow Trump. Today, in Michigan, the Republican Party chair who had criticized Trump, Jason Cabel Roe, resigned.

Candidates who have thrown their hat into the ring for the 2022 midterm elections are trying to get attention by being more and more extreme. They vow to take on the establishment, support Trump and God, and strike terror into the “Liberals” who are bringing socialism to America. Forty QAnon supporters are running for Congress, 38 as Republicans, 2 as Independents.
And yet, there are cracks in this Republican rush to Trumpism.

Yesterday, on the Fox News Channel, House minority leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) admitted that "Joe Biden is the president of the United States. He legitimately got elected." Trump supporters immediately attacked McCarthy, but the minority leader is only too aware that the House Select Committee on the Capitol Insurrection will start hearing witnesses on July 27, and the spotlight on that event is highly unlikely to make the former president—and possibly some of the Republican lawmakers—look good.

Already, the books coming out about the former administration have been scathing, but tonight news broke of new revelations in a forthcoming book by Pulitzer Prize–winning Washington Post reporters Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker. Leonnig and Rucker interviewed more than 140 members of the former administration and say that Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark A. Milley was increasingly upset as he listened to Trump lie about having won the election, believing Trump was looking for an excuse to invoke the Insurrection Act and call out the military.

Milley compared the former president’s language to that of Hitler and was so worried Trump was going to seize power that Milley began to strategize with other military leaders to keep him from using the military in illegal ways, especially after Trump put his allies at the head of the Pentagon. “They may try, but they’re not going to f---ing succeed,” he allegedly said.

In addition to damaging stories coming out about the former president, news broke yesterday that Fitch Ratings, a credit rating company, is considering downgrading the AAA rating of the United States government bonds. The problem is not the economy. In fact, the Fitch Ratings report praises the economy, saying it “has recovered much more rapidly than expected, helped by policy stimulus and the roll-out of the vaccination program, which has allowed economic reopening…. [T]he scale and speed of the policy response [is] a positive reflection on the macroeconomic policy framework. Real economic output has overtaken its pre-pandemic level and is on track to exceed pre-pandemic projections....”

Although the report worries about the growing debt, we also learned yesterday that the deficit for June dropped a whopping 80% from the deficit a year ago, as tax receipts recover along with the economy. Year-to-date, the annual deficit is down 18% from last year.

The problem, the report says, is politics. And it is specific. “The failure of the former president to concede the election and the events surrounding the certification of the results of the presidential election in Congress in January, have no recent parallels in other very highly rated sovereigns. The redrafting of election laws in some states could weaken the political system, increasing divergence between votes cast and party representation. These developments underline an ongoing risk of lack of bipartisanship and difficulty in formulating policy and passing laws in Congress.”

CNN
The so-called "QAnon Shaman" who stormed the US Capitol in a horned bearskin outfit pleaded guilty Friday to a felony for obstructing the Electoral College proceedings on January 6.
...
Chansley was originally charged with six federal crimes. He pleaded guilty to one of the most serious charges and could face a maximum of 20 years in prison, though his lack of a criminal record means he'll likely receive much less. As part of the plea agreement, Chansley agreed to pay $2,000 in restitution for damage to the Capitol. He could also face a fine of up to $250,000.
...
As part of the plea deal, prosecutors agreed to seek a punishment between roughly three and four years in prison.

Thousands of People Are Trying to Leave QAnon, but Getting Out Is Almost Impossible
In a Cosmo exclusive, women on both sides—the former believers and the doctors they’re turning to—show us what it takes to escape.

Therapists who specialize in treating Q patients don’t often prescribe pills or rush to a diagnosis. Instead, they rely on three big tenets of cult exit counseling: building trust while not trying to convince the person to change their beliefs, exploring the life experience that led them to these beliefs, and supporting them once they arrive at the moment of realizing they’ve been lied to and psychologically manipulated. These methods have worked even with people who are initially dragged to therapy by their families and are agitated about being there. Mostly, though, they work when someone is just…tired.

Hundreds of QANON adherents are gathered in Dallas at Dealey Plaza because JFK Jr is supposed to reveal himself today:

If he does show I'm totally joining their group. That's a promise! I really didn't realize how idiotic a large portion of the country is until the last 4-5 years. I'll never understand fully how people could fully embrace Trump and the nonsense around him. Those people should just be rounded up and dumped into the ocean.

They're. Still. There.

Weeks after they first gathered near Dealey Plaza, dozens of believers in the furthest fringe of the QAnon conspiracy theory remain in Dallas, expecting long-dead John F. Kennedy Jr. to reveal himself in the city where his father was assassinated and usher in the reinstatement of Donald Trump as president.

Why the world's gone mad: the weaponisation of the conspiracy narrative virus by Hamilton Hume

TL;DR -- disinformation existed long ago, but it had become weaponized through modern analytics into possibly disastrous proportions.

Slightly longer version: it's an old tactic to blame some nebulous threat for all that ails you. French blamed the chaos following the revolution on the Illuminati (who's against the church and the theocracy). Russians who don't like Jews wrote propaganda book claiming Jews have a secret agenda to dominate Europe. And the grand conspiracy theory became a part of our culture. In the 2000's a team converged to weaponize the secret agenda meme virus to get Trump into office, and this team included many former military psyops commanders. They came up with a campaign that utilized the Internet and superspreaders like Alex Jones. Tactics such as gamification puzzles, broad nebulous Nostradamus-sounding predictions and hints, are used to keep the believers entertained, enthralled, and ultimately draw more people in, and casting the Dems as the bad guy (i.e. PizzaGate). The messages are expertly crafted by analysis firms such as Cambridge Analytica and various PR firms ready to wage PsyOps for their paying clients to confuse, deflect, and basically discredit the opposition. COVID and the government response happen to feed into the narrative.

Q is a player who used the gamification to amplify the doubt. It's possible Q is one or many different people, but what's clear is this thing is a lot bigger than it seems, and it has many allies, both formal and informal, and actions may not be coordinated, but are all aimed in the same direction.

And this is dangerous, as January 6 had demonstrated. If they lose, they will not concede defeat. They are not swayed by the facts because they've been psyop'ed and brainwashed and swayed by experts. In order to stay in power, those in power may have overplayed their hand, and the monster is no longer in their control.

You guys don't know even the half of it. Every so often I watch QANON videos on Youtube just to see what is going on. This is what I have learned:

1) Trump "devolved" authority to the military before he left office as a part of the plot to expose the "cabal/deep state". But he's coming back . . . soon . . . sometime . . . whenever.
2) Q'ers love military tribunals. So far Colin Powell (his death was a cover story), Bill/Hillary/Chelsea Clinton have been tried, among others. Powell gave up info on the "cabal" and only got a life sentence. Bill Clinton got a life sentence but died at Gitmo. Chelsea was tried and executed at Gitmo. George W. Bush's trial starts this week. Biden has been arrested also. Any people you see in public are actors/clones (seriously).
3) The Global Reset is coming! New currency will be issued after a 10 day blackout/shutdown, with thousands available to the average American.
4) "Tesla free energy" (whatever that is) will be bring cheap limitless energy to the masses.
5) Militaries around the world are organizing to expose and arrest the global "cabal".
6) The military will soon take over the media just before the Global Reset.
7) The new covid variant is just a distraction from the Ghislaine Maxwell trial.

This is just a sampling of the insanity.

That's confusing to me too, but it appears that they have now turned that around to being something Trump is planning, rather than the "cabal" is planning.

No, there's nothing like a call to arms here, nothing close. The QANONS are totally convinced that Trump is still the commander in chief, that he still controls the military and the military are the "white hats" and on their side. There's no need for them to rise up because the military is going to do all the work. If anything, they are being told to be patient and "let the plan work". Believe me, I've been watching this stuff and there's nothing close to any call to violence or revolution in the stuff I've seen. It's all in the hands of the military - it's almost as if they worship the military as much as they worship Trump. There may be other groups out there such as the Proud Boys or 3 Percenters but nothing like this in the QANON stuff I've been watching.

I'm too lazy to search for links, but in the past few days the QAnon elites have erupted into civil war against each other.

Lin Wood (insane QAnon lawyer and standard-bearer) released audiotapes wherein Michael Flynn (amoral retired US Army general and grifter) dismissed Q people as gullible idiots and cast the whole QAnon phenomenon as leftist CIA disinformation. This is long after Flynn posted videos pledging allegiance to Qanon and headlined multiple Q rallies and events.

Wood seems to be pursuing a purity campaign that he believes will be vindicated by Trump's return to the White House after the Supreme Court invalidates the 2020 election.

Some of QANON is verging into sovereign citizen territory (another hobby of mine). They believe that the US was a corporation that went bankrupt right before Biden took office. As such Biden was sworn in as president of a bankrupt corporation, hence he has no real power. Trump meanwhile is president of the "Restored Republic", though I'm not clear as to when he was sworn in. As such the military reports to him.

According to one wacko, Charlie Ward, according to his "sources" no one is living in the White House, it's totally dark at night, and it is only being used for military tribunals (they bring everyone in after midnight for this purpose). Of course this is totally insane, but based upon the stuff he says, I'm pretty certain he's a grifter because he makes all sort of claims about "inside" info and "sources" that he has, that is obviously false, so he has to be lying rather than being someone that is being misled (unless he really does have "sources" that are totally taking him for a fool, which is always possible).

It's all so crazy, I just about think it's worse than Scientology in many ways.

Q-Anon gonna represent at Trump's rally Saturday.

Also in the crowd at Trump’s rally will be Michael Brian Protzman, the leader of the QAnon cult that has been holed up in Dallas for the last three months predicting the return of John F Kennedy.

...

He convinced hundreds of people to travel from all across the U.S. to Dallas at the beginning of November to witness the resurrection of JFK and his son. Despite repeated failed predictions, dozens of his followers abandoned their lives and have remained in Dallas for the last three months.

Protzman announced on one of his many live audio chats that his group is traveling to the Arizona rally, and he made vague predictions about what might happen on the day, including yet another possible appearance by JFK.

...

Some of Protzman’s supporters have also spotted that Trump’s official announcement mentions “live entertainment” as part of the rally, and suggested that this will involve a band made up entirely of dead musicians and singers, including Michael Jackson, Prince, Whitney Houston, Janis Joplin, Tupac, and John Lennon.

This prediction follows Protzman’s own claim in November that at a Rolling Stones concert in Dallas that he forced his group to attend, the band members were replaced by Jackson, Prince, and JFK Jr., with Aaliyah providing backup vocals.
