In theory, POTY isn't usually supposed to be a popularity contest but a recognition that the individual greatly shaped events or attitudes.

The only thing the Internet loves more than creating heroes is tearing them down. I really hope this doesn’t prove true for Keanu, but if it does I suspect he’s one of those few who are capable of just not giving a shit what the Internet thinks. More power to him.

I heard someone refer to him recently as the "Internet's Boyfriend" - I can't think of a more schizo girlfriend to have than the Internet.
