Denny Laine, the original lead singer of the Moody Blues and Paul McCartney’s co-founder/guitarist in Wings, died December 5 after a short battle with Interstitial lung disease. He was 79.

Norman Lear:

Famed television producer Norman Lear, whose wildly successful TV sitcoms including “All in the Family” and “The Jeffersons” fused comedy with trenchant social commentary and dominated network ratings in the 1970s, died Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles, his family announced on his website. He was 101.

“Norman lived a life of curiosity, tenacity, and empathy. He deeply loved our country and spent a lifetime helping to preserve its founding ideals of justice and equality for all,” his family said. “He began his career in the earliest days of live television and discovered a passion for writing about the real lives of Americans, not a glossy ideal. At first, his ideas were met with closed doors and misunderstanding. However, he stuck to his conviction that the ‘foolishness of the human condition’ made great television, and eventually he was heard.”

Ralph Cirella, a longtime friend and stylist to Howard Stern who frequently appeared on his popular radio show, has died at 58.

The emotional host announced the news on SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show, during which he revealed that Cirella was receiving treatment for a “rare lymphoma” when his “heart gave out” on Tuesday morning.

He also voiced his frustrations over the circumstances of the loss, saying, "Ralph developed an illness, but I really feel he got involved a little too late because the illness he got was curable and was treatable, but he had some complications of waiting too long, and I got very upset with him.”

"I think this is the toughest part of loving someone — when you lose them," Stern said during Wednesday's episode, largely devoted to stories about Cirella's life and their enduring friendship. "Lord knows I loved Ralph."

He continued, “I was not ready for Ralph to go. I was not expecting Ralph to die.”

Writer and poet Benjamin Zephaniah has been remembered as a "titan of British literature" after his death aged 65.

Andrea Fay Friedman, the actor with Down syndrome who costarred for two seasons in the early 1990s on ABC’s groundbreaking drama series Life Goes On, died Sunday, Dec. 3, at her Santa Monica home of complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She was 53.

Her death was announced to The New York Times by her father, the entertainment lawyer Hal Friedman. (According to the National Down Syndrome Society, about 30% of people with Down syndrome in their 50s develop Alzheimer’s disease.)

‘One Life to Live’ star Ellen Holly, the first Black actor to lead a daytime TV show, dies at 92

Cast on "One Life to Live" in 1968, Holly stayed with the long-running series through 1980, before returning from 1983 to 1985. Producer Agnes Nixon cast Holly in the role after reading the actor’s New York Times opinion piece, "How Black Do You Have To Be," in which Holly recounted her personal difficulties in finding acting work as a light-skinned Black woman.

Carla Gray’s main conflict in the series regarded a love triangle between two doctors — one white, one Black. The arc predated storylines on "All My Children" and "General Hospital" that also directly confronted race. In her 1996 autobiography, "One Life: The Autobiography of an African American Actress," Holly recounted how her and her Black co-stars were underpaid and mistreated by executives while working on "One Life to Live."

Ryan O’Neal Dies: ‘Love Story’, ‘Paper Moon’ Actor Was 82

Ryan O’Neal, the Oscar-nominated Love Story actor who starred in some of the most memorable movies of the 1970s, from What’s Up, Doc and Paper Moon to Barry Lyndon, died today. He was 82.

His death was announced by son Patrick O’Neal on Instagram. Though a cause was not specified, O’Neal had battled various health issues for decades, from a leukemia diagnosis in 2001 and stage 4 prostate cancer in 2012.

Ah a shame. He was a great actor. Also Farrah's love once. Hadn't seen him really since he talked about Farrah's death. My wife really loved Love Story. We used to watch it together. Always a sad ending with him leaving the hospital then alone at the park. I watched just the end after my wife died and couldn't handle it.

Ironically he was an EMT working disparch for a private ambulance service. I think he was in his early 40s.

James McCaffrey, ‘Max Payne’ and ‘Alan Wake 2’ Voice Actor, Dies at 65

James McCaffrey, an actor who provided the voice of Max Payne in the popular video game series and most recently voiced Alex Casey in “Alan Wake 2,” died Sunday after a battle with cancer, Variety has confirmed with his manager. He was 65.

McCaffrey was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, according to TMZ, which first reported the news.

Before his career in video game voice acting, McCaffrey was a film and TV actor for more than 30 years. His first roles dated back to the late ’80s and early ’90s, with his breakout project being Fox’s police drama “New York Undercover.” He played the recurring role of Captain Arthur O’Byrne in Season 3. He then starred in the NBC action series “Viper,” when it originally ran for one season in 1994, and he returned for Season 4 when it was revived a few years later.

McCaffrey’s biggest role came on FX’s “Rescue Me” in 2004. He played firefighter James Xavier “Jimmy” Keefe, who died on Sept. 11 and was best friends and a cousin of Denis Leary’s main character Tommy Gavin. He appeared as a main character in the first three seasons and was a recurring player in the final four seasons. McCaffrey also appeared on shows like “Sex and the City,” “As the World Turns,” “Beautiful People,” “She’s Gotta Have It,” “Jessica Jones” and films like “The Orphan Killer,” “Camp Hope,” “Excuse Me for Living” and many more.

Tom Smothers, half of the Smothers Brothers and the co-host of one of the most socially conscious and groundbreaking television shows in the history of the medium, has died at 86.

The National Comedy Center, on behalf of his family, said in a statement Wednesday that Smothers died Tuesday at home in Santa Rosa, California, following a cancer battle.
