the 'get around to trying that game, already' thread

the rules, such as they are:

pick out someone on this board (ok, they have to volunteer here first), go into their game stash on whatever platform, and find something they have have never ever played that they surely must try. the person who is selected for this will install that title and put a good half-hour into it to see what it is they may be missing out on. this should happen within a reasonable time frame, like a week or so after the request. that person then reports back with their impressions of that specific title. after posting, that person then has priority to nominate a title back at the requester, if they wish. one at a time, to avoid overwhelming anyone!

one can negotiate with the requester, within limits - like if someone says i have to play XCOM 2, i'd reply 'i have barely touched XCOM 1, could i do that instead?' and if someone has already played that game (because they own the original discs, or on another platform) the requester can pick a different title.

any title is within bounds, as long as it's in their library, even if it's not a type of game that person usually plays. someone could request that i play Sportsball Manager 2009 or Grand Imperial Strategy 4X Title 1389 or Mindless Bubble Pop Clicker 5 and i would do it. i wouldn't be happy about it, but i'd do it.

i'll volunteer to be first.

i'll take your offer and double it - i will play BOTH of those. i actually have the CDs (DVDs?) for CoH and have played it a bit from those a long time ago, but i will give it another go. i forget, what's the difference between the Steam version and the 'legacy edition'?

I would play, but I have way too many titles that I played on CD, or are remasters (that show zero hours played, but I played the non-remastered version), etc. People would be like "DUDE. You MUST go play Half Life 2....STAT!!!" :D

Don't forget to hit spacebar (machine vision or whatever) on the main command screen.

That's the one, yeah. Gives you a few extra options for missions you can do, basically, if you're tired of listening to the tech-obsessed lady or the burn everything guy.

I've been enjoying it. The RPG-lite choices through the levels help alleviate battle fatigue of one battle after another.

Short of recommending you go back to Sleeping Dogs, I couldn't come up with a good suggestion.

Qvadriga - engrossing in that turn-based kinda way and it certainly reminds me of a PBM game from back in the day, but i do not think i am ruthless enough for this. i don't want to hurt the horsies or get my slaves killed. (and weren't the Romans were kind of a garbage culture? i am just not very interested in this time period and location..) hence, i am not doing too well, yet - so am going to put more time in this one.

Company of Heroes - ahhhh i forgot this is WWII era - so overdone... and i suck at RTSes. i am plodding along through the tutorial now.

One could say that I've been thoroughly engaged. The Master title, I have reserved for those that have completed their main (first) tech track.

If you've never played Hacknet, get to it. It's a real gem, as explained in the video below:

It'll be Battle Academy. I know I'll play and probably like Alien, so I've been saving it until I have the opportunity really experience it (as opposed to getting in ten minutes here and there.)

Technically Archinerd beat you to it, but I'll be a sport and try both.

It'll be a few days, though. Tomorrow is booked solid, and Monday is a whole new schedule kicking in.

I'll pick up the other half of my challenge and get around to playing Alien Isolation then.
I started it 5 years ago and failed to ever get back to it.

I've kinda petered out on Mechanicus. I've dropped the first two lords, and sitting in a pretty good position with my guys. I will get back to it in the near term, but haven't been chomping at the bit to finish.

I started playing No Man's Sky instead of Alien Isolation. I'm about 20 hours in, and I don't think I like it.

it appears i got Company of Heroes and Soldiers: Heroes of World War II sliiiightly mixed up in my recollections (i like the latter as you can take direct control of someone with WASD controls, if i remember correctly)

Well, we hit 100%. I don't think I did any missions for the bottom two non-Tiresus people. Khepra has to be my favorite character of the group. The final mission will have to wait for another day.

Both great games. Always felt CoH could have been better. And in Soldiers I always loved taking control of a tank or tank gun emplacement.

If you've been killing the intermediate bosses, the final fight is a lot easier than if you haven't. Kind of a moot point by now, though.

Been a while since I broke out the ol' lightning shotgun. I haven't played the Remastered version and the original was honestly the best one, so I'll be doing that. No way I'll be able to bring myself to get the bad ending though.

Out of all the Bioshocks I've played, the first one is probably the only one where I understand the storyline.

So far, I just shot up the crazed plastic surgeon guy, and found the shotgun, which has been my favorite tool since Doom. It's even got lightning bullets for dealing with robots. Lacks stopping power for big daddies, though.
