I get your hatred for the Pats/Bills deciding that outcome but why the Cards over the Rams?
I have feelings. And I feel like Stafford is going to give us another choke job.

One interesting thing about the two "playoff" games yesterday evening - both the Rams and Chargers OL's were completely demolished in those games. Neither Stafford nor Herbert had any time to throw whatsoever, and the running games were effectively non-existent.

He's kinda been busting out of most of the Lions mold this season, so I wouldn't bet against him. He still hasn't won enough games against winning teams or enough big games for me to put trust in him but he has done enough that I wouldn't bet against him either.

Would I be surprised by 3 interceptions, one of which is the game losing pick 6? No. That's the big game Stafford I remember.
Would I be surprised if taking home field advantage puts him in a leadership role where he steps up and is given the latitude to use his cannon arm to some nail biting success with a receiving farm of top notch talent? No. That's the Stafford and embarrassment of riches receiving unit the Rams have had this year more often than I've ever seen.

I think home field should give the Rams the advantage but I heard on the radio this morning the Cards actually play better on the road, where they are 8-1. That's only reason I'm not firmly in the Rams camp and give it a toss up.

As of yesterday, Saturday night was the worst slot the Bills could draw, weather wise. I feel like the only purpose of this season is to convince the Pegulas to build Josh a dome.
Well, I also figure one other asset that the Patriots have is that I could see Buffalo fans / players get into their own heads if the Patriots go up early, like used to happen with the Red Sox and the Yankees. Like a 1st quarter fumble by Buffalo gets recovered by NE, Patriots get a quick TD, and everyone in Buffalo starts freaking out about blowing it against the Patriots again.

But, at the end of the day Josh Allen is a much better quarterback right now than Mac Jones.

I agonized through the Jim Kelly era of 4 super bowl losses by the Bills (was OJ on any of those teams?). With the Chargers out I am rooting for a Bills/Rams SB.

A couple of things.

LordMortis…Stafford has been Lions-era Stafford for weeks now.

Bills weather…they changed the forecast and there’s no precipitation I think or much wind. But it’s going to be cold AF (6 degrees).

No, OJ wasn’t on the Bills Super Bowl teams. :)

In general, I think that the home teams are in good shape, but the Bills/Pats matchup isn’t great for them, and playing on the surface of Mars isn’t going to help.

I just don’t trust Stafford.

Oh, and just for the record, I don’t think that this Bills team has any issues at all with the Patriots team. They are 3-1 against the Pats without Brady. While games can get out of hand (SEE: Indy game), there’s nothing about this Patriots team that the Bills are in danger of “oh know, not again”.

The fans? There’s a whole lotta scar tissue there. :)

Jim Kelly is well past the OJ era. OJ played in the 70s. Kelly was mid 80s to mid 90s.

Psst. It isn't Stafford, it's the OL. On both teams. Stafford is a bit better than Goff, but not that much better. Look at the Rams running game yesterday. Even up 17-0, they were barely getting a yard a carry.

Interesting note - the Bills and Pats have never played each other in the playoffs in the SB era (they played once in the AFL I think). Interestingly, the Pats have only played a third game against a team twice since 2000 (both times against the Jets, going 1-1). I honestly feel that this game is a coin toss. Either team has legit reasons to think they can and should win.

The good thing, is that this is the sort of thing that leads to real rivalries. When the Bills were good in the late 80s through the mid 90s, the Pats were hot trash. During the Brady era, the Bills were a dumpster fire. Now, if both teams can maintain themselves - these games are going to be tight, unpleasant affairs for both fan bases. But that's what makes football more fun to watch.

Thurman Thomas was running the ball for Buffalo at the time IIRC.

Gonna predict Bills 24 - Patriots 17. I'd give the Patriots about a 40% chance of winning the game.

In the other game, Bengals 30 - Raiders 14.

They pointed out that this game was the first time the Bills scored TDs on their first three drives since 2012, and that was also against NE.

Mercifully they didn’t point out that NE won that game 52-28. :)

That was a half. Hopefully it’s not the opening chapter of the Legend of McCorkle Jones.

That is probably the most satisfying win I’ve ever seen as a Bills fan. The only beating I’ve seen worse than this was the 1990 AFC Championship game.

But this excised the Patriots with finality.

The ride may end next week in KC (it just seems unlikely to go in there and win twice this year), but scoring a TD on every. single. drive? (Until Trubisky came in to kneel down)

9 straight quarters against the Pats defense without a punt.

On to KC (unless the Steelers do me a solid).

The Bills offense pitched the first perfect game in NFL history. And they did it in the playoffs, against THIS opponent. I would say that this was probably the most satisfying game I’ve ever watched.

Imagine being this guy after watching that game though. I could watch Matt Cassel’s disbelief for days. :)
