Re: NFL 2021 Season
I’m fairly biased for the Steelers, and I hate how awful the refs were.
The taunting penalty sucks, but I think that enforcement of the rule overall has been terrible this year. The worst calls IMO were the cut block that took away a Bears TD, and the no call on the obvious late hit on Fields(same drive I think).

It was the same drive and there were two late hits in that final set of downs

Re: NFL 2021 Season
The OL was truly horrible at setting up at the end there.
They would line up and you would just keep seeing the same two guys creeped over the line. That was annoying as hell.
Still. I can’t say I’ve been happier with my Bears in a long time.
A lot of spirit out there right now and Fields is the QB we’ve desperately been waiting for.

Re: NFL 2021 Season
I've not mentioned the refereeing thus far since I'm a Bears fan and know how that looks and also because there was enough amateur hour stuff on the Bears side to be embearassing (lining up in the neutral zone multiple plays in a row? C'mon, man!), but yes. It was probably the most one-sided I've seen, on the whole, in a looooong time.
That said, while I disagree with the taunting call, I agree with RM9--it was hot garbage, but if you're in that game situation, you have to know better than to even sneeze in the direction of the opposing sideline. Flag probably shouldn't have been thrown, but fire was played wit. Fuck around and find out, etc.

I find the referee hip check to be far more egregious.

They didn’t give a shit every time Watts did his high kick. I guess it was always ‘aimed’ away from any Bear player ...
And yeah, while the Bears earned a bunch of bone headed fouls... there were just too many garbage calls, and frankly the missed roughing the passer call was obviously another ‘game changer’.

I mean that the ref went out of his way to make that contact happen and then flagged the guy for making contact.

He didn't flag him for making contact. He flagged him for "taunting" toward the Steelers bench. He was already pulling the flag before the contact.

Ahhh, yes... OK - - when it was live, there was some (brief) speculation that Marsh had made contact... I thought that is what you were saying...
But you are right, and I missed Marsh's postgame comments where he pointed it out.... that Marsh was hip-checked by the ref. I agree with you and with Marsh. That's amazingly inappropriate for a ref.
Can that ref be punished for this? Does that happen? Will it here?

Re: NFL 2021 Season
I find it hilarious to see the cries against officiating from Bears fans, as I had to watch the game with a Steelers fan who was bitching just as much in the other direction. I can’t count the number of times I was forced to rewatch a play where the right tackle came out of his stance noticeably early, and no call.
But I’m not a Steelers fan, so I notice the terrible officiating both ways. As for the late hits on the QB. Welcome to life in the NFL as a running QB. You get no slack from the refs. For Allen’s first two years as long as you didn’t stab him, no call. Last year that started to change though (for him).
As for the taunting call, it had nothing to do with the contact, and while I’ve seen the slow mo’s of the hip check, I would be stunned out of my socks if Tony Corrente’s brain actually said “let me hip check that fool”. I know what it looks like, but I don’t for a second believe that what my eyes are reporting is correct. Sort of like that final kick.

Get down on their knees and pray

Make up bags of change

Re: NFL 2021 Season
Replay showed several phantom calls going against the Bears. I didn't really see anything equivalent against Pittsburgh but perhaps we can all agree officiating was shit. It's a shame Santos had to end his 40 straight field-goal streak on a forlorn hope...one that an extra flake of Wheaties in the morning might have made the difference.

NFL 2021 Season
Officiating is always shit. It’s never perfectly balanced so someone is always getting screwed.
Also, someone else needs to watch a replay of that kick. It wasn’t even close.

Re: NFL 2021 Season
NFL Fines Packers, Rodgers for COVID Protocol Violations.
The amounts are a joke, and as mentioned before, it's also absurd that the NFL had to conduct an 'investigation.'
Probably difficult to fine yourself, tho.
The most consequential outcome of this development, from what I've gleaned via the media, is that now that the NFL has disciplined Rodgers for COVID violations, any future issues are subject to suspension. Which makes me wonder how close Rodgers is to saying fuck it all, have fun with Jordan Love. I don't really think Rodgers wants to add 'quitter' to his legacy, but you know he's just fuming right now.

Translation: we knew he was unvaxxed, we knew he was not complying with protocol, and we did nothing until it became a PR problem. The NFL also noted the unvaccinated Rodgers should have been wearing a mask during press conferences.

Since he's tested positive, his life under the protocols is much easier. For one, no more testing for 90 days. That takes him to some time around the Super Bowl.

Yeah, I would expect that now he’s equivalent to being vaccinated so it shouldn’t be an issue.
The fines are ludicrous, but that’s the NFL. CeeDee Lamb got fined $20k for having his jersey untucked.

The five worst taunting calls of the season.
Apparently we have this mess in large part because the Giants owner got twisted in a bunch about taunting. Guessing they'll return it to normal within a season or two.

Re: NFL 2021 Season
We know that NOW, but the angle they showed when the game was live (behind the uprights) made it look SUPER close, and that it hit the bar (announcer even yelled it). I guess I could be convinced that my brain was influenced by the announcer yelling "AND IT HITS THE BAR!!", but it totally fooled my eyes. They showed the reverse angle (from kicker's side of field) a few minutes after, and it was obvious how short it was.RunningMn9 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 09, 2021 10:47 pm Also, someone else needs to watch a replay of that kick. I've seen lots of kicks on TV that made short kicks look close, but never seen one like that where it made it look close AND like it hit the post (but was in actuality...what, 20 yeards short?!). Weird.

I watched! My issue was I watched the initial live view, the announcers also said it hit the post, and then I immediately turned it off to go watch Dancing with the Stars. Their QB has a broken collarbone (I think?) and their backups are Matt Barkley and PJ Walker. Cam is probably the best FA out there if they are still trying to win.

So was Randy Moss until he was put on a team that won. So was Antonio Brown. If you plan is SB or bust, it's not a bad addition.LordMortis wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 5:02 pm Have fun, Rams. OBJ is poison from every account I've read since the one handed catch.

Re: NFL 2021 Season
He was injured when he was cut in 2019. Still, I bet that initial call from Rhule was interesting.
And of course he is, NOW, good enough for us when we're facing the Cardinals on Sunday, and reduced to our backup QB that has played 1 NFL game, ever. I'm not super excited about Cam 2.0, but we've had a QB problem for quite a while. Frustrating as hell.

Is there something going on in Wyoming that I should know about? Some secret Jets enclave?
