The son of a man accused of helping to lead the 6 January 2020 Capitol riot has testified that his father threatened him with injury if he alerted authorities.

Guy Reffitt, 49, has pleaded not guilty to five felony charges related to the attack, and is the first accused rioter to stand trial.

Guilty on all counts.

The defendant, 49-year-old Guy Wesley Reffitt of Texas, was found guilty of these five criminal charges: Transporting a Firearm in Furtherance of a Civil Disorder; Obstruction of an Official Proceeding; Entering or Remaining in a Restricted Area or Grounds with a Firearm; Obstructing Officers During a Civil Disorder; and Obstruction of Justice—Hindering Communication Through Force or Threat of Physical Force.

The maximum sentence for the most severe of Reffitt's charges -- obstruction of Congress and obstruction of justice -- is 20 years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 8.

As Mr Fed always points out, quoting the maximum sentence is just for show. Find someone who can dig through the sentencing table to get a better feel.

True, but this is only one of multiple charges. And even half that sentence could ruin your whole insurrection.

He didn't say he armed them. Said they were armed. And he's talking about his colleagues, not the rioters (again, not sure what the implication is here, that he armed the rioters?!)

It's going to take a LOT more than that to even shame a Trumpster in these times, if that's the intent here. In fact, I am very sure if you asked him now what he thought about that, he would absolutely say "Of course I said that! Why wouldn't I? I strongly believe in 2a. AND?!?"

Edit: Also, that "host" is almost literally vomit-inducing with his attitude. FUCK YEAH, MAN, GUNS!! I have a feeling he would still be egging on the gun aspect if everyone at the riot was armed, and there were dozens of gunshot fatalities. "Yeah, man, I mean, I know a lot of people are dead, you know? I totally get that, but when the shit hits the fan, better that you're standing than some rando, amiright? And he who holds the gun lives to see another day, right gun-bro? GUNS!!! YEAH!!! I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a tragedy that so much human life was snuffed out today, but I think we can all agree that our desire to have guns in highly charged demonstrations, rallies and riots supercedes any price."

Many #SeditionHunters worry about involvement of military in the Jan 6 Capitol attack. Here’s the most disturbing find yet: Maj. General Donald Rutherford, fmr Chief of Chaplains of the United States Army, who watched the violent W Plaza attack. IDd by @CoryCullington & team. 1/

Watch on Twitter

@capitolhunters
#SeditionHunters panicked when they spotted his “Pentagon” hat, with an O-6 pin. Rutherford did serve in the Gulf War & Iraq, got the Bronze Star. How can he - a Catholic chaplain! - calmly watch as officers are assaulted? But the ID is solid - he posted about his trip on FB. 2/

Capitalism tries for a delicate balance: It attempts to work things out so that everyone gets just enough stuff to keep them from getting violent and trying to take other people’s stuff.

I think he is referring to all the armchair internet snoopers who were trying to track down the location of the Tsarnaev brothers when they were on the loose. LOTS of mistakes made, ID'ing the wrong people, etc.

It was definitely a bad call, but you can see how he arrived there. The number of coincidental variables is rather unusual, I'd think.

Ah, that's makes sense seeing how I do zero social media beyond following some tweets posted here. I've noticed lately that twitter will only let me read the first few comments before insisting I sign up. No thanks.

Years ago I was on reddit (#beforeitwascool meme). Then one day I tried to post something and was denied for no apparent reason. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I know this would have been discussed wayyyy back on earlier pages, but why is "attempting to overturn a federal election" not a thing?

Or it is, and in this case, because of who she is, the answer is "oligarch/aristocrat", i.e. "above the law"...again.

Well, it's a matter of *how* the effort to overturn the election is done. Suing in court, even under a crazy legal theory, to overturn an election is clearly legal. Storming into the capitol building to kidnap and threaten to kill the Vice President obviously isn't.

The bad guy isn't even wearing a mask. He is doing it right in front of the police. They are all mysteriously not interested.
