It seems to be a pertinent question. To the elections next year and in 24.

My immediate kneejerk answer is no. Not if the health system holds out. If the doctors, nurses and professionals stay then no. Especially with the new antivirals.
No. Right now in US, the death rate from being COVID-19 positive is less than 2%. Even if that rise to 5%, it is unlikely to kill enough.

And not many elections are under that margin, and those that are sometimes that close and are enough to shift things aren't decided by popular vote. And even if it became 5%, red states aren't pure red, and blue states aren't pure blue. The two sides interact every day, and it would still be distributed between both sides. It might not be equal - maybe 2% for one side and 3% for the other (or however the math works out), but the 'side' losing the most wouldn't be the only one losing people. In this completely un-researched example of 5% death rate (which is extreme), one side would be getting a 1% increase. That's not enough to change anything.

Well, maybe Bush vs Gore.

That makes sense.

Edit for: Waiting for death to place their bony finger on the scale to counterbalance disenfranchisement isn't a good use of anyone's time. I personally don't see a way out.

NJ has never had a governor win two terms, so the blurb should be "Dems Make History!"

This is not true. We haven't had a Democrat do so in awhile but Christie won back to back in the last decade. It was more a small sample size curiosity.

I mean, it’s a quirk. The Dems will hold it for two terms under a Democrat with Murphy. Before him, Christie was Gov for two terms. Before him, Democrats held the spot for two terms via three people (Corzine, McGreevey and Codey). Before that, the GOP held it for two terms via four people (Whitman, DiFrancesco, Farmer, and Bennett). Before that, Florio was a one termer. Before that Kean had two terms.

I get that a lot was made of it in this election, but Florio’s single term from 90-94 is the only time a party hasn’t held the Gov mansion for two consecutive terms since 1974. And neither party has held it for longer than two consecutive terms.
And in banks across the world
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range
