Or the CIA needed him. They yanked his teeth, put them into another skeleton to be found, and he's now in an underground bunker learning to speak Russian with dentures.

Partial remains found by authorities searching for Brian Laundrie, Gabby Petito’s fiancé, were confirmed to be his after a review of dental records.

Still possible his parents put them there, right? We're not ruling that out yet!
Only if they did it prior to the day they were found. And at this point why would you think the parents had the bones stashed away until now?
Just crazy fictional scenario from watching How to Get Away with Murder:

Maybe one of the parents killed Brian and then they tried to cover it up by burning the corpse then dumped the bones in the swamp.
The burning would be detected. Heat would do things to the bone marrow.

I take it this was a swamp. A hot humid insect and probably predator filled environment. Make it underwater and you add in other feeders.

Especially if he’s married to a horrible French Canadian woman who’s trying to have him killed.

Yes, but it'll get rid of the parent's DNAs. (also from watching How to Get Away with Murder).

Uh, the parents’ DNA is allowed to be found on a Brian corpse without any assumption of foul play.

NBC News
Brian Laundrie died from a gunshot wound to the head and his manner of death was a suicide, according to a statement from the Laundrie family attorney.
...
After the conclusion of that autopsy last month, his family's attorney, Steven Bertolino, said that "no manner or cause of death was determined." Since then, a forensic anthropologist has been analyzing Laundrie's remains.

Not surprised about that. The authorities have no vested interest in pandering to the media circus. The lawyers potentially do, you never know when one of those epic Lifetime movie deals will materialize.

I would think it difficult to conclude suicide with out, but then again, if that were the case, why did it take more than a few nanoseconds to determine that?

On the topic of this particular thread:

Cowards way to go out/down. He had the time, money and resources to lead a Kafkaesque catch me if you can sort of adventure.

Lots of things would have been far more entertaining then putting a bullet in your head hiding like a coward in a national park.

I would say this ends the investigation to her killer. I can't imagine him offing himself if he was innocent, event if there was a preponderance of evidence against him (look how the Kyle Fuckface trial turned out). So he knew he was guilty, and he did not have massive support of racist, gun-toting douchebags standing behind him. Maybe he could have, should have left the country, but if he didn't think ahead and have a passport, that probably wouldn't work out unless he snuck in to Mexico.

He saved us millions of dollars of future incarceration expense. To that, I'd say he did the right thing.

Unpleasantness follows.

Potentially due to damage to the skull. A handgun and a corpse don't equal suicide (it can also be homicide), and if he was in as bad of condition as he seems to have been (it's already been determined that he would likely be completely skeletonized, and it is likely his remains were scattered and gnawed on by predators), then there may not have been a simple, perfectly round hole to compare to a bullet, and the remains may not have been found where he died (again, scavengers drag parts around, bury them, scatter them.) Add in the fact that, depending on the caliber of the handgun, the exit would may have been half of his skull and you need an expert and tedious reconstruction to confirm cause of death.

And, as investigators, you don't cut corners or jump to conclusions in order to satisfy antsy media outlets and their readers. As I mentioned, many obvious suicides have turned out to be homicides. You take the time, and you do the work.

Last month, a skeleton was found hanging in a forest preserve in a Chicago suburb. It was immediately determined to be that of a missing (for more than a year) executive with United Airlines who happened to be under investigation for some sort of malfeasance. His car was found a year ago last summer in the same forest preserve. They connected the dots right away, and deemed it suicide.
