My Disney + money is going towards a Willow series?
For the love of Pete Sampras, quit trying to reinvent mediocre titles. I mean... Willow??? What's next? Batteries Still Not Included?

Yeah I'm a big Willow fan as well. Even read the Chronicles of the Shadow War trilogy of novels which pick up where the movie left off. I'm super looking forward to this. I'll watch Warwick Davis in anything.

I like Willow as well and will definitely be watching this.
I also don't think we've done enough to shame McNutt back into his anti Willow corner.

Yeah, I didn't want to start a pile-on, but hating on Willow? Who does that? It's a classic!

Can't wait for this series. Disney + is really killing it with their shows, Obi-Wan, Willow, Moon Knight, Daredevil, Hawkeye

Is it odd that I’m more looking forward to watching this than I was for Lord of the Rings on Amazon Prime?

Re: [Disney+] Willow series
It looks great. Sad Val isn't in it or doesn't seem to be. His craziness helped make the movie so great. Gonna miss him in there. Good to see his ex wife back in her role as well though. Hope they just dont make her weak just because she is older.

Me too!
I saw something online yesterday suggesting there will be a connection to Madmartigan provided. I'm not sure if it was leaked or is official so I won't spoil it, but I was excited to see it.
EDIT: Apparently it was revealed at the D23 expo yesterday, but I still won't spoil it here. If you're curious read up here:

Re: [Disney+] Willow series
I watched the Val Kilmer Documentary on Amazon and putting him in anything with a speaking role would be a bad idea. I doubt he could even pull off any sort of non speaking role that requires any sort of physicality at this point. It really is a sad situation.

Re: [Disney+] Willow series
Same. Madmartigan was a big reason I enjoyed it so much. Glad they have Franjean and Rool in it again. They didn't play big parts but were also part of what made the movie fun.

Anyone watch it yet? I think I'll give it a try but I'm kind of lagging behind on a lot of shows.

I had never seen the original Willow, so I checked it out. Was surprised to see it was a Val Kilmer feature.

we are watching the movie first as I haven't seen it in years, and my son hasn't seen it all. So far he like it. And I don't remember anything about this

Re: [Disney+] Willow series
I watched the first episode, and I'm really liking it so far. I wasn't sure how much I'd like the brand new cast of characters, but by the end of the episode I was completely on board with them. Ruby Cruz is a bad ass, I really liked Erin Kellyman in Falcon & Winter Soldier, and I think Amar Chadha-Patel's character Thraxus is going to be a real treat.
Edit - just finished second episode and my opinion hasn't changed. The show only gets better with more Warwick Davis. There are plenty of callbacks to the original movie which is fun if you're a fan of the film.

It's getting really good reviews. Hopefully McNutt has been scared away from this thread, because I have a feeling there's about to be a Warwick Davis lovefest going on.

Yes, but dear lord were the characters such stereotypes to start.YellowKing wrote:I watched the first episode, and I'm really liking it so far. It got a lot better once Willow actually became part of it.

Re: [Disney+] Willow series
The more negative reviews I've seen have largely been from reviewers who have no nostalgia or particular appreciation for the original film. And I get it - Willow is not a *great* movie. It's a decent movie that a lot of people growing up in the 80s loved because it's part of our childhood/adolescence.

Re: [Disney+] Willow series
I'm one episode in, and I'm liking it. Yeah, I'm a fan of the original, which came out on network TV just as I was at the height of my fantasy obsession. It (along with Dragonslayer, Ladyhawke, Conan, and Excalibur, recorded on VHS in SLP mode) wore out my VCR. It really captures the feel of Willow and the era it came out in. Back then, fantasy was more about wonder and imagination. Today, the popularity of grounded low fantasy has taken away a lot of that wonder (you'd never see brownies - comic relief or otherwise - in Game of Thrones.) This has a lot of that wonder.
That I love.
The one thing I'm not loving is their attempt to make it trendy and appeal to the Disney Youth. I'm not talking about casting or the nature of relationships - I'm perfectly fine with all of that. I'm talking about jarring anachronisms that they throw in the way Shannara did. Shannara used "I smell elf-boy hate" in the first episode, and I cringed. Willow, in episode one, used "You're not the boss of me, Princess!" and, "She's like, totally gorgeous." Ugh.
Of course, that's only one episode in. Hopefully they up the wonder and tone down the CW teen appeal.

I think I’m just burned out on fantasy shows as I’m not enjoying this as much as I thought I would.
