It's a quiet Christmas morning here, with Chamber of Commerce weather. The Christmas lizard has made his appearance, that's the first lizard on the patio enjoying the sun. We're off to drive across the state to go celebrate the 75th birthday of my wife's brother. Normally driving on I-4 past Orlando means a creep-a-thon, but according to the traffic camera things are morning almost at speed.

67, and all of the windows are open. The gifts of hot chocolate and an electric blanket I gave to people ended up feeling oddly inappropriate.

Four pounds of ground meat, five pounds of potatoes, and two pounds of onions say we're going to be having Christmas dinner all week. Meat loaf and scalloped potatoes are the tradition at Chez Kraken, and they came out perfect.

It wouldn't be Christmas without cutting myself on the can of corned beef.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

You notice he said cutting himself. He didn't specify his hand so it leaves one to wonder. The movie was American Pie not American Can of Corned Beef.

I don't usually cook dinner with my penis, but I'll have to try it sometime.

I saw where they were sending food aid to Brazil for 300,000 in need. And they are shipping food out. Strange.

We normally leave our stuff up until after New Year's Day. This year I am tempted to break that rule - I've been stuck without my relaxin' chair for a month now.

Wow today was a far better day than even yesterday.

Weather wise it was sunny and 74 with a small breeze. Perfect.

Then I cooked more mashed potatoes and they came out fluffy and tasty and perfect unlike yesterdays sticky ones. The gravy was much better today than the turkey gravy from yesterday as well.

9.5/10

And Ive watched all season 6 eps of Car Trek from Tavarish

Ours was really good. But I do need to get my knife sharpened, it was a bit hard getting through that roast without having it break into pieces. Need to find a professional knife sharpening place. I'm fine with sharpening things like axes and pocket knives. But I hesitate with a $150 chef's knife.

I had not planned on it, but both my neighbors took advantage of the great weather to take all of their decorations down. Not wanting to be the one asshole on the cul-de-sac sticking out like a sore thumb, I took my stuff down too.

However, taking all this stuff down required having somewhere to put it, which meant I needed to reorganize the attic. And to properly reorganize said attic, I really needed to get ALL the Christmas stuff back in its proper place. Which meant taking down both trees and the Christmas village. And the shelf decorations.

What began as "I'll just get the outside stuff and throw it in the garage" wound up being about a 5-hour purge of all Christmas from our house.

I'm actually kind of glad it's done, though. I have the week off, so now instead of having that chore hanging over my head, I can work on other projects that I actually took the time off to do.

Amen to that. Unless you are like someone whose house I go past on my morning walks. He has an eight foot inflatable Santa that has spent as much time horizontally as it has vertically. Today I saw him dragging Santa into the garage. Mischief is feared.

If you're uncomfortable maintaining the correct angle of your $150 blade using a regular bench stone, you can save yourself a significant amount of time, money, and hassle by purchasing a simple Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker instead. It uses ceramic sharpening rods so rest assured, it definitely will not rip and tear large shards of metal from your $150 blade (unlike typical cheapo 'sharpeners' that rely on tungsten carbide and the like). The rods are used at pre-set angles of either 20° or 15° per side, so there's no guesswork involved at all, and it couldn't be much simpler and easier to use. Here's a video that illustrates how it works:

"There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." — P. J. O'Rourke

Some folks came over Saturday for a game day and I got some late Christmas presents they'd been holding onto.

Zarathud bought me a pair of Golden Girls underwear. Being asked to "try them on" after he gave them to me was an awkward moment.

Seppe got me a Kenny G CD.
