Games Played 2022! Stake your claim!

Post by Blackhawk »

Welcome to 2022! Here's a place to keep track of what you're playing, what you've beaten (or finished), and what you've abandoned. It's traditionally for video games, but there's nothing that prevents people from including tabletop games played on the list, too. As always, give people a week or so to get 'slots' for recording their games, then feel free to use the thread for discussion as well.

Here are the previous Games Finished threads, edited for the first post:

Alrighty, let's see if 2022 can be less of a gaming mess than 2021 was.

Finished (PC unless specified):
  • Medieval Dynasty
  • Deep Rock Galactic
  • Planet Zoo
  • Aliens Fireteam Elite (once through)
  • Division 2
  • Warhammer: Vermintide 2 (again)
  • Ark: Survival Evolved (umpteen hours, although I'm not sure what qualifies as 'finished'.)

Abandoned:
  • Wasteland 2
Playing:
  • Endless Legend
  • Chaos. Just chaotic chaos.
Side Games (multiplayer, coop only etc):
  • 7 Days to Die
  • Vermintide 2

I'll put down my stake. I just don't have a lot of faith in it. :)

FINISHED
01/18 - Tainted Grail - calling this one done; beat the game with all classes; all classes leveled to 20
02/25 - We Happy Few - quite a ride; unexpected and thought-provoking endings
??/?? - Vampire Survivors - working on maintaining 100% achievements in the face of periodic updates
??/?? - XCOM 2: LWotC - calling it quits on this one; save game won't load on the new PC either. Looks like it's bugged. But I was close enough to the end to call it.
03/15 - Dungeons of Dredmore - successful run with mace wielding tank.
03/15 - Chernobylite
04/03 - Prey
04/04 - Phoenix Point
04/09 - Dungeons of Dredmore - successful run with wands, tinkering, and diggles.
04/30 - Into The Radius (VR) - second time, but they changed it up so much it was almost a new game. Still great.
04/?? - Diablo 3, Season 26
??/?? - Ghost Recon: Breakpoint
??/?? - TBS: Deity Empires (on Impossible), Dominions 4, Warlock - Master of the Arcane
07/03 - Void Bastards
07/16 - Dead Space 3 (Multiplayer)
07/24 - Metro Exodus

I never post in this thread because I always play the same few games:

World of Warcraft
OOTP22
Magic The Gathering: Arena

I will mix it up a little this year and replace OOTP22 with OOTP23 when it comes out.

Finished
1) Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 - 20220102 - Fun and somewhat challenging sniping game with a bit of a Hitman-esque feel with lots of close-up work.
2) Monster Hunter Rise - 20220114 - Ummmm, play World.
3) Supraland Six Inches Under - 20220116 - Nice follow up to the original.
4) Dying Light 2 - 20220211 - Like Dying Light but bigger and faster
5) Horizon Forbidden West - 20220306 - Like HZD only more and better
6) Elden Ring - 20220319 - A fun and challenging experience, not GOTY
7) Hexologic - 20220320 - Chill puzzle game, amusing 90 minutes
8) Weird West - 20220403 - Interesting if a bit short
9) Desperados III - 20220410 - I'm still not sure if it's fun, but I like figuring out a way through
10) Phantom Doctrine - 20220423 - Interesting tactical gameplay, hard to follow narrative.
11) Rogue Legacy 2 - 20220510 - A nice roguelite metroidvania, lots of classes and diff builds, like Hades
12) Sniper Elite 5 - 20220601 - Like SE4 but, well, yeah pretty much the same.
13) Tetris Effect - 20220625 - Interesting evolution of the tetris formula.
14) Tiny Tina's Wonderlands - 20220628 - more borderlands, a small step up from BL3 for me
15) Raft - 20220707 - fun, puzzle-y survival c-raft game
16) Elex II - 20220723 - LIke Elex but more (and a good bit easier)
17) Stray - 20220724 - 4 hours of a moderate enjoyment
18) Gas Station Simulator - 20220806 - A fun simulation of dealing with a lot of crap at once.
19) Matchpoint: Tennis Championships - 20220821 - Better than most of the recent tennis games I've played.
20) Infamous: Second Son - 20220828 - No idea why I stopped playing 5 years ago, it was a good time.
21) Hitman 3 - 20220830 - Gameplay was mostly the same as previous entries, but story was interesting, if not surprising.
22) Demon's Souls Remake - 20220911 - Glad I gave it another go. Easiest FROM game ever.
23) Grounded - 20221018 - Excellent, challenging survival-craft experience. Worth it for the end credits song!
24) A Plague Tale: Requiem - 20221022 - Greta follow-up to the first game. Brutal story.
25) Gotham Knights - 20221027 - Not an Arkham game but that doesn't make it a bad game.
26) Lost in Random - 20221106 - Interesting mechanics, cute story, fun.
27) God of War: Ragnarök - 20221122 - Like God of War, but older.
28) Wreckfest - 20221125 - Better late than never.
29) Steelrising - 20221130 - Pretty easy for a souls-like but still fun.
30) Need for Speed: Unbound - 20221209 - NFS is back baby, not awful, decent fun even!
31) Marvel's Midnight Suns - 20221216 - It's not XCOM3.
32) Resident Evil: Village - 20221217 - Interesting, with some challenge, but a bit short.
33) Just Cause 4 - 20221219 - Yep, it's more Just Cause
34) Shadow Tactics: Aiko's Choice - 20221221 - More of the same, in a good way.
35) LEGO Builder's Journey - 20221221 - Short, annoying, easy.
36) I was a Teenage Exocolonist - 20221224 - Simple, story-driven... interesting.
37) Saints Row (2022) - 20221227 - Passable, buggy, fun.
38) Vampire Survivors - 20221231 - Best $2 game ever? Maybe.

2021 - 58 games
2020 - 34 games
2019 - 27 games
2018 - 15 games
2017 - 16 games
2016 - 16 games

Prefacing comments on New Year's Day:
In my garbage-bloated 10,000-game Steam library, I keep ~100 games ready to go. I also tend to forget that Diablo 2/3, Starcraft 1/2, and Warcraft 3 are always ready in Battle.net as well. Of those ready-to-play games, many are not meant to be "finished," but I'm entering 2022 quite frustrated at myself for restarting some for the second or third time each and still making pitiful progress. We'll see whether the completion of my 2021 home move and renovations allows me enough time and focus to finish some games. I haven't even watched a movie (from my physical library of 2,500 titles) at my new house yet because we've been so busy, so there are plenty of times I'll probably sit down as if to play, and just watch something instead.

Reached an ending:
6/10 Dark Nights With Poe and Munro (PC) - If you liked Shapeshifting Detective, you know what you're getting, minus the shapeshifting. It's just episodic choose-your-own-adventure.
9/10 Mad Father (PC) - Shockingly good, but I'm biased in favor of horror adventure games that aren't too punishing with deaths. Only lacks a better reason to replay.
8/10 Cayne (PC) - Good, free, 4-hour companion to the gross space madness isometric adventure Stasis.
5/10 Shuyan Saga (PC) - Amazing art with horrible dialogue and a mouse-based fighting system that is one part fun and two parts frustrating. More fighting game than adventure.
10/10 The Talos Principle (PC) - Finally decided to finish the base game. Finished every puzzle and three endings, but still Road to Gehenna to go. So much to find, amazing game.
7/10 Aperture Desk Job (PC) - I mean, it's hard to complain about a free game in the Portal universe, but it's just a 30-minute tech demo for the Steam Deck.
9/10 Detention (PC) - Closest thing I've found to The Cat Lady, even though this one carries the weight of a cultural gap in understanding the themes of societal oppression.
5/10 The Corridor (PC) - I guess I just wasn't in the mood for it, but I thought this little 20-minute game was dumb.
7/10 Poker Hands (PC) - Simple card matching game where you strategically shift the board to make combinations, took me two hours or so.
9/10 FAR: Lone Sails (PC) - If you like 4-hour puzzle platformers, this clever one is a must-play. Would be a 10/10 if I didn't kind of hate platforming.
7/10 Save Room (PC) - Another basic, short puzzler that gives you something to do for two hours. Fit your stuff into your inventory slots.
8/10 Quarantine Circular (PC) - Took less than two hours to play one ending, so I'm sure there's more you could do in replays.
8/10 Golf Club Wasteland (PC) - Many clever bits mixed with some annoying ones, but overall totally worth it.
9/10 The Room 4: Old Sins (PC) - Continues to be the best gadget puzzle box room escape series that isn't Rusty Lake.

Remind me again what "Abandoned" entails, please. Is that a permanent state? Or just a temporary pause, and may return to it at some point in the future? I ask because most of my games played are in the latter phase.

Same for me. Mostly. The exception is games like Fallout or Skyrim. I abandon the current playthrough with the understanding that the next time I play (if there is a next time), I'll be starting over.

Actually, that probably applies to any game. So I guess not really the same. :)

So abandoned, to me, means I'm done. And if I ever decide to come back in the future, I'll be starting "clean".

OK, in that case, then:

PLAYING:
Disco Elysium
Oxygen Not Included I hate you I love you I hate you I love you I hate you I love you
Black Mesa (ohhhh so close to the end)
Grim Dawn

Hades is still installed, but it's hard for me to stick with it for some reason. I need to try playing with a controller, I think that might be my issue, not sure.

Currently playing:

PC/Mac:
None at the moment

PS5 (was PS4 until early March when I won the PS5 lottery):
World of Warships: Legends (I'm still having a lot of fun with this one
MLB The Show 22 (I'm playing this series since 2008)
Midnight Suns (really like it so far)
Witcher 3 (picked it up after getting the Next-Gen update)

Nintendo Switch:
Nothing really at the moment

Tabletop:
Skies above Britain (GMT)

PS3, PS VITA & 3DS XL:
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (3DS) - I dusted off my 3DS XL and enjoy playing the next entry in the series after finishing the Phoenix Wright Trilogy

On the short list:
Shadow of the Tomb Raider (started this right after finishing RotTR and really like it so far. Visuals are fantastic and I like the setting. Not sure why this one does not get more love)
Yakuza: Like a Dragon (not sure why I like this one (Japanese games are normally more miss than hit for me but I enjoy it)
Persona 5 Royal (another one, even weirder, Japanese game I enjoy so far. I played the 4th one (I think) on the PS Vita quite a bit and liked it)
Life is Strange 2 (need to continue, I really liked it so far)
Pillars of Eternity - PC (played this quite a bit but stopped, want to pick up again)
Marvel's Spider-Man - PS4
Red Dead Redemption 2 - PS4
Banner Saga - Switch
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Switch (really liked it so far, need to pick it up again)
Shadow Tactics - PS4 (played this quite a bit and liked it, need to pick up and finish)
Hitman - PS4 (still working on the missions, using the engine of Hitman 2. Need to play more!)
God of War - PS4 (a fantastic game but stopped playing)
Ghost of Tsushima - PS4 (never really got into the game ... will have to pick up again)
Outer Wilds - PS4
Gran Turismo 7 (not generally a huge racing fan but I really like this so far, I think it fits my racing game playstyle very well. Also, looks gorgeous)
FarCry 6 (it's ok but not more so far. I actually liked FarCry 5 better and should finish that)
Ghost Recon Breakpoint (I really like to play a mission or two on a regular basis. This has become a very good game, for what it's trying to do)

Completed:
  • Horizon Zero Dawn (PS4/PS5) - wow, what a great game. Loved it when it got out and then stopped playing for 2 or 3 years and then finished the remaining 3/4 in weeks. Easily a Top 5 all-time game
  • Horizon Zero Dawn - Frozen Wilds (PS5) - jumped into this immediately after finishing the main game, which is unusual for me, and finished within 2 weeks. Really liked it with the exceptions of the large boss battles at the end
  • Assassin's Creed: Valhalla (PS5) - I finished the main quest line and will (likely) play Ireland and France next. The end was ... weird and in general, this game has some strange design elements)
  • Space Crew (PS5/Switch) - I started on the Switch but it worked much better for me on the PS5. I really liked Bomber Crew (and finished) it and after a short time getting used to Space Crew, I really liked that one, too, and finished it
  • South of the Circle (PS5) - interesting walking simulator with strong narrative story. I thought it looked good and the writing and the voice acting was amazing. Not sure that I liked the ending, though

So many unfinished games in 2021. I'm actually planning to slow down my gaming a little bit this year, spending at least 2 days/week doing something other than gaming. We'll see how that goes.

Games finished
- Nier Replicant - PS4 - B+ (Jan 11): Nier was one of my favorites from the PS2 era, and this remaster didn’t disappoint. In some ways, it was wonderful reliving the fond memories I had of the original. In others, it was a brutal reminder of just how much backtracking and fetch questing the game involved. I know there’s multiple endings, but I’m not going to play the whole thing again just to see them. (24 hours)
- Witcher 3 - PS4 - A (base game on Feb 15, both expansions on Feb 23): A far better experience than my first time through. Got a good ending on both the base game and the B&W expansion, which didn't ruin the game like last time. An absolutely superb story, and the gold standard for open world games, for sure. (67 hours)
- Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga - PS4 - B+ (April 18): The first Lego game I've actually finished. A really fun way to play through all 9 films, with a great balance of fun and humor. Could easily double the playtime if I wanted to hunt for collectables...which I don't. (25'ish hours)
- Tiny Tina's Wonderland - PC - B+ (May 29): Almost skipped it because I don't really like Borderlands. Glad I didn't, as it was a fun and very funny adventure. The change in theme did wonders for my interest. Probably the longest I've ever spent with a FPS (30 hours).
- Horizon Forbidden West - PS4 - A- (June 16): Another truly fantastic Horizon experience, brought down very slightly by a meh ending. Still one of the best series on the system. (38 hours)
- Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker - PC - A (July 31): A truly satisfying end to a story a decade in the making. Actually felt somewhat emotional when I logged off after the MSQ was finished. Excellent xpac and a truly wonderful game (1,500 hours...so far)
- Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - Switch - A- (Sept 8): Slow starter, but a really enjoyable JRPG. Easily the best of the Xenoblade series and maybe the strongest RPG on the Switch. (65 hours)
- Mortal Kombat 11 - PS5 - A (Sept 20): Played through the story mode on "Very Easy". A really fun story with combat that I could manage. Doubt I'll spend much more time with it, but that was more fun than I expected. (4 hours)
- Guild Wars 2 - PC - B (Nov 6): Second time I've finished the main campaign. The final mission is remarkably lackluster, and I find myself pretty bored once I hit max level. Might mess around with the HoT and PoF xpacs...might not. (44 hours)
- Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood - PS5 - B+ (Nov 26): Was fun to be back in Oblivion for a while. Blackwood was a really fun story and they did a really good job creating a self-contained adventure. Playing on console without mods wasn't nearly as painful as I was expecting. All in all, a very fun experience. May jump into the Skyrim zone for a bit now as well. (28 hours)
- Astro's Playroom - PS5 - A (Dec 1): A fantastic showcase for the PS5 and the new controller. Lots of fun to play, and a really neat look back at the PS' history. (2 hours)
- FF VII Crisis Core Reunion - PS5 - B (Dec 24): Glad I got to revisit this after remembering it fondly as one of my favorite games on the PSP. Time has dulled both it's mechanics (the mission system feels woefully outdated) and impact (FF VII Remake made this no longer the only way to revisit FF VII), but it's still a fun game. (15 hours)

Finished
  1. The Wheel of Time (Jan 2, Medium difficulty) 6/8
  2. Kitty Letter (Jan 12, iOS): heard about this as a Wordle alternative. It's by comic writer The Oatmeal. I finished the brief story mode and played arcade mode a few times (high score is 220). It has Oatmeal's silly, zany humor, but is just OK as a word game. 4/8
  3. Saya no Uta ~ The Song of Saya Director's Cut (Jan 16, 10h 13m) 4/8
  4. Extreme Meatpunks Forever Season 1: Powered By Blood (Jan 22, PC): a visual novel about LGBT folks who fight fascists by piloting giant robots made from flesh. Great concept with funny/sad dialogue and good music, but too short for me to get into the characters and story. The combat is a simplistic and tedious arcade game which fortunately can be skipped. 4/8
  5. Subsurface Circular (Jan 29, PC, 3.5 hrs): Dialogue-driven detective game about semi-sentient robots and their uneasy coexistence with humans. Great visual style and intriguing story, but bogged down with some annoying puzzles and I wasn't satisfied by the ending. 5/8
  6. The Shapeshifting Detective (Feb 19, PC, 4 hrs) 3/8
  7. Tidalis (Apr 23, PC, 22 hrs, 51% overall completion) 6/8
  8. King's Bounty: The Legend (Sep 17, PC, 92.5 hrs, Easy difficulty, Level 27 Mage, final score 496) 6/8
  9. Trombone Champ (Sept 22, 2.5 hrs, played all the songs) 5/8
  10. Kana: Little Sister (Oct 22, PC) 6/8
  11. Mass Effect 2 (Nov 28, PC, Legendary Edition, 111.5 hrs, Insanity difficulty, Level 30 Female Renegade Infiltrator) 4/8
  12. Return to Monkey Island (Dec 21, PC, 21.5 hrs, Hard mode) 5/8
  13. Cheap Golf (Dec 24, 5 hrs, final score 569): Puzzle arcade game with Atari 2600-style graphics and sound effects. Between levels, a GlaDOS-like AI named SUSAN sends you funny messages. Fiendishly difficult and addictive. Marred by imperfect controls and SUSAN becoming less interesting in the third act. The SUSAN Supporter Pack DLC features some cute videos about SUSAN's interpretation of several Atari 2600 games. 4/8
  14. Sayonara Wild Hearts (Dec 30, PC, 2 hrs 12 min): This is an interactive music video with fancy visuals, a pop score, and elements of rhythm game, endless runner, and other genres. Kind of neat but not that fun. There's barely any story and just a couple of songs I like. I'm puzzled by the critical acclaim. 3/8
Rating system:
6 to 8 = Tits
4 to 5 = Ass
0 to 3 = Toenails

Playing
  1. Joe Dever's Lone Wolf HD Remastered: I'm in Act 3, Normal difficulty.
Backburnered
  1. Lost Odyssey: I'm on the final disc. Just gotta push on through.
  2. Path of Exile: I was really enjoying this and got my necromancer to level 60, but then the game prompted me to redistribute my passive skill points. I didn't want to bother, so I stopped playing. I ought to pick this game back up, though it will probably be like starting over again.
Abandoned
  1. Letterpress: heard about this as a Wordle alternative. It's word search puzzles with a shade of the Risk board game. I played a few games against bots. If you really like word search puzzles and are really good at them, you might like this.
  2. Burly Men at Sea: in this replayable mini-adventure, you guide the three Beard brothers on their fantastical nautical voyages. This game has neat moments, but is too tedious, repetitive, and taken with its own cuteness. In 90 minutes, I completed 5 playthroughs. I think there are 7 more endings to see but I'm done.
Games played: 2006 (15); 2007 (14); 2008 (20); 2009 (23); 2010 (13); 2011 (15); 2012 (17); 2013 (25); 2014 (25); 2015 (9); 2016 (8); 2017 (9); 2018 (2); 2019 (22); 2020 (9); 2021 (6)

After having spent money to get the Skyrim Anniversary Edition I decided I need to finish it once and for all. As such, it's the only game I'm playing currently.

Feb 2022 - Finished Skyrim Anniversary Edition
While Skyrim doesn't technically have an "ending" I feel it is time to retire my Nord Female Ranger, Elsa. She became the Archmage of the College of Winterhold, joined on the side of the Empire and killed Ulfric Stormcloak, solved the serial murders in Windhelm, put an end to the Dark Brotherhood, and defeated Miraak and Alduin.

Along the way, she killed the leader of a cannibalistic cult, tried her hand at joining the Thieves Guild but stopped because she couldn't bear to threaten the people in debt, hurt the Black Briars by stealing their stash and their horse - but gave it to Louis Letrush, freed Thorald Gray-Mayne - who decided to join the Stormcloaks but this was after I killed Ulfric, so won't he be surprised, and helped Serana defeat her father. They were last seen together having a more mundane adventure trying to get back some dude's helmet.

Life is Strange: True Colors. I'm getting in touch with my feminine side and playing Alex as an introvert trying to break out of her shell, but afraid to show her powers as they may cause her to be separated from her brother again. Also afraid to antagonize people, because the extreme emotions may cause her powers to flare up and draw attention to her.

Feb 2022 Finished Life is Strange: True Colors

Holy moly, when I wrote that I was starting True Colors I had just done 5 minutes of it on Friday. That game sucked me in and I just was so invested in the story that I had just finished it Sunday after amazing marathon sessions of gaming. Truly one of the best game experiences I have had. I do want to play this again and make a few different choices, but later. Much later. So I will say finished. For now. I'll have to put gaming on the back burner for a little while; can't afford to get sucked in like that again.

"Finished" MW5, pretty much learned all the nuances except mods, way too many of them to keep count. Went through some mods but my playthrough was "mostly" vanilla. First one I actually recorded almost everything and uploaded, except Hardspace Shipbreaker and Titan Quest.

Will probably take a break on gaming at least for a few days. I have too many games in my backlog to do that for long. :D It'd have to be something relatively esoteric.

And sadly my XCOM 2: Long War of the Chosen run screeches to a halt. At least until I get my new PC. Appears that my wife's old PC can't handle it any more. I suspect that at 160+ missions under my belt, the memory requirements are too much. I can no longer load any mission saves. :(

Just finished Control. First game I've finished in quite awhile (oddly, that last one was Alan Wake, which I finally played last year). And now I remember that I finished Max Payne many years ago too, so I'm guessing that Remedy has made almost half of the games I've actually played through to the end.

Huh.

Call it a solid 7/8 tentacles, only because it got a touch repetitive at the end. On the other hand, by then end I was so leveled up that...
Spoiler:
The last, final climb up to Dylan was a really fun exercise in demolishing multiple Hiss on the various levels in one or two shots, with fully amped up guns and telekenisis.

Finished the campaign for Hitman 2. Still installed, as there's plenty of challenges on the last two missions and some others for me to waste time on, if desired.

Or move on to 3 on GamePass.

I played a bit of xBox Guardians of the Galaxy, but then I succumbed and have been playing Elden Ring (xBox).

Having a ton of fun with Elden Ring, but I can see this being another Witcher 3, where I go years without "finishing" it...

I played Crash on the Run on my tablet and I liked it. Though it seems childish and... too much in-game purchasing, that's a huge drawback. The typical runner gameplay with favorite characters, exciting scenery as always in Crash series, nice music - that what I really enjoyed

Finishing up where I left off from Season 1 or 2 from The Walking Dead. Playing New Frontier. It's pretty good, if not as good as the previous games. Still not a huge fan of the QTE's, nor the intentionally impossible choices. I see what they were trying to do, but it's just a little too forced (which I know is the point).

Only other quibble is that sometimes you choose an answer or action, and the resulting...action is not at ALL what you wanted to say. That probably pisses me off more than anything.

Example: you are presented with responding:
1. I hate you
2. I am completely ambivalent towards you
3. I love you

Too often, if you pick, say 1. the actual response on screen is something like " i don't really like you that much" then BLAM! puts a bullet in someone's head. The choices they present do not represent what comes out of the mouth of the character in too many cases.

Other than that, the story is great and as usual, the voice acting is top notch. I do plan to continue and finish (The Final Season?) so I can mentally put a COMPLETED check next to that one.

I hear you. I just finished Into The Radius, and I only have one more achievement. But it's to complete the entire game again in hardcore. That's a big NOPE. :)

I prefer short games now and recently I tried Jumpfall.io. Very similar to Minecraft parkour with pieces of walls hanging in the air. It's needed to jump on them to the end of the map. They say it's in bets, the game itself seems addictive but physics and controls are very much raw now. It think I'll return to it in 2-3 months and hope the developers will already have it tested well and finished.
