Found a new snack that's not so terrible, pepperoni from Aldi under $6 a pound with lots of mustard applied. Lots of taste from eating just a few slices. Of course the sodium is the problem. Better than gobbling up 6 oz of Lebanon Sweet Bologna in one sitting I guess. LOL

After my weight plateaued for most of the last month, I'm excited to finally record a 20lb+ weight loss since March! I've walked 14 out of the past 19 days (remarkable for me). It's not particularly strenuous, but my body's just waking up. Shin splints have become an issue in the past week, but I rested for a day and am otherwise taking it easy.

Not too sure why my weight plateaued earlier in the month. I'm not tracking calories, and I know my portions are still excessive sometimes. But I've become more mindful of what I eat and have definitely been cutting back and making better choices. My probably 1l-a-day soda/juice habit has changed to an average of maybe one full-sugar drink every other day. I've switched almost all my drinks to sugar substitutes despite hating it at first. Mostly Fresca, sugar-free and half-sugar Gatorade (50 kcal per 591ml), and hot tea. I drink a lot of water too, but I need beverage variety as a mental reward and to reduce hunger cravings. I've been buying a lot of pre-cut/washed finger veggies... not exactly cost effective, but it's meeting me in the middle of my effort level. Some boiled eggs, and I mean to eat more canned fish. The cannabis munchies continue to be a major adversary. It would be a lot easier if my wife joined me on this quest, but her mental illness is getting in the way and she's quite stubborn. All I can do is keep asking, and try not to bring as much unhealthy food into the house that she doesn't ask for.

I was reading about alternate-day fasting (still consuming 500kcal on fast days). It's suggested it's no more productive than general calorie reduction, though it may have a few benefits. And if I'm combining it with calorie reduction on the other days, bonus? Not sure if I really have the willpower for it. I was considering just doing it two or three days a week to start. OMAD (one meal a day) is something I was also interested in at one point, though it's not considered as safe. Or maybe I'll just stick with general calorie reduction and have small snacks/meals earlier in the day.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

My wife is doing intermittent fasting (restricting eating to 8am-8pm), as it was suggested by her doctor. She's lost several pounds over the last few weeks, though whether it's due to the fasting or just being more conscious about what she's eating I don't know.

Checkers has been helping with my diet by having their computer down each time I visit, so naturally they won't sell anything unless it's in the app or Door Dash. I'm feeling hungry, so I find myself checking out everything I'm planning to gorge on come Veteran's Day. https://www.military.com/veterans-day/r ... ounts.html

A rather big drop this week. Over the past week and a half or two weeks I have cut out my afternoon snack of nuts and cut out beer. The beer is temporary I'm sure - I was drinking about 2-3 beers a week and for the past couple of weeks I've had 1 beer.

In the past week I also had my annual physical and bloodwork. Fasting glucose is nice at 86 but I'm a little bothered that my blood pressure hasn't really improved since last year even though I have dropped 5 kg more or less.

Hey, that's my lowest reading of the year, thanks to lentil soup being central to last week's menu. But alas, here comes Gluttonday.

Haven't updated in awhile but went to the doc today and I was essentially back to square one due to Thanksgiving and a month of not working out consistently. However, the bloodwork was fantastic so he wasn't overly concerned.

However, my blood pressure was the highest it's ever been. He wants me down 5 pounds when I go to see him again in March and will revisit the BP then. I was fully prepped to get back on the wagon now that Thanksgiving is over, so he didn't have to tell me twice.

Good results Kraken. Thanksgiving didn't seem to cause you any trouble. It was not so good for me but I didn't go back above 86 kg so I'm not too bothered.

I got fat by gaining 2 or 3 lbs a year, every year. I hope to lose weight at the same rate. If I can finish this year down 3 lbs, that's a win. Then I need to do it again next year, and next, and so on.

I got fat the same way but I am aiming to find a way to stabilize at 10-15 pounds below my highest weight. One pound per month more or less. I had some hopes that that would also help my BP but while it hasn't hurt it doesn't seem to have helped that much.

Down thirty pounds over the past eight months. I'm so happy. Though I have no idea how I've continued to lose weight over the past month. My mental health has taken a dive and I've been doing a lot of emotional eating. I haven't been fasting consistently. I still don't drink a lot of sugar soda/juice though. I walked almost daily from mid-October to mid-November, but since then I've gotten barely any exercise at all. Perhaps I'm still reaping the benefits of improved metabolism?

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

Holding steady. A bit frustrated with the lack of recent progress, but I'm in a battle between healthy eating and exercising and emotional eating and the munchies. Still trying to do intermittent fasting most days, simply meaning I delay eating until 2:00, sometimes 5:00. I realize consistency likely helps, but my schedule isn't consistent to begin with.

I've found times to walk outside despite the colder weather. Around or just below freezing I go out without a coat if there's little wind. But at times I'd need a coat or hoody, I'll get too hot underneath and it feels gross. So I peel off a layer and then I freeze my nubs.

I've also started doing light exercise. Wall push-ups and squats. Went way too far the first day and could barely move for three days. I've eased up a little bit though and it doesn't seem as bad now. (Or maybe I just haven't started to feel it after pushing myself yesterday.) And I just started trying to implement kegels and stomach contractions throughout the day.

My temperature cutoff for walking is 35 degrees if it's cloudy or breezy, or 30 if it's calm and clear. Sidewalks are currently snow-covered and slippery, so I'm housebound until that dries up.

I'm going to start back on Jan 1 with the 2023 thread, as updating now would be a bit pointless. I had a horrible November and basically regained about 6 pounds. Between being sick, getting a new dog, and a crazy work schedule my workout routines have been blown to hell.

I'm not whining though. My blood work in November came back *excellent* so I'm on the right track. And now the new pup and I have a pretty good routine so I'm definitely walking more (even if my running has had to take a back seat). Also back on the rower, so I have no doubt I'll be heading in the right direction by Jan 1.

I just don't know how I keep losing weight over the long term when I intermittently fall off the exercise/healthy eating wagon. But I'm looking a gift horse in the mouth. As long as I don't become complacent, this is fine.

I'm becoming seriously concerned about developing hanging skin (at least, more than is unavoidable), as the surgery to correct it is tens of thousands of dollars. I've begun doing research about hypertrophic muscle building which some suggest reduces the effect of hanging skin, as it can replace lost fat with muscle to a degree. But I haven't found a lot of clear information so far, and unfortunately I don't have the finances to join a gym or seek the assistance of a fitness specialist at this time.

Going from being self-conscious due to my obesity to being self-conscious about hanging skin would be devasting, BUT I'm obviously putting the cart before the horse, and even if there's no way around it, at least I'd still be dramatically healthier with hanging skin.

Dude, you're doing awesome. Losing 10% of your body weight in ~9 months is phenomenal.

There are likely a large amount of books and videos at your library. Whichever streaming service you might be subscribed to likely has some workout videos. And then there's the community centers.

Thanks man. Your encouragement really means a lot to me. And I don't look into the resources that are available to me enough.

Well crap. Hope this is just a holiday blip. On the bright side, it looks like the last few days of the year will be walkable (starting tomorrow).

I was feeling smug about losing 4 lbs this year until I blew it last week. Even if my last weigh-in is just barely negative, it will be my first loss (win) in this thread for some years. Wife has been bringing home all manner of sinful treats left over from her various parties and gatherings. And my BIL sent us a huge gift basket of forbidden foods. Most of them were sweets, which neither of us like; I gave those to a food drive. But there are still enough savory treats left to blow away my willpower.

Our financial adviser gave us a solid block of milk chocolate that's at least 12" x 5" x 0.5". IDK what we're going to do with that. Not eat it.

New Years Eve always brings Wife's legendary El Azteco Cheese Dip, for which I just bought ingredients today. That does not bode well for the waistline. Especially since I'm going to pair it with Mexican shrimp cocktail this year.

Back to soups and salads next week. Well, after the cheese dip is gone.

Yeah, my wife's NZ friend sent her six 250g Whitaker's chocolate blocks. And I'm like... I don't want her to eat it all. It's thousands of calories. But I don't want all those calories either. Obviously it's lasted quite a while but it's still been a calorie bomb. But, I rarely bring sweets or snacks into the house anymore and we avoided the glut of holiday treats this year we'd usually get when visiting family. The passing/institutionalization of my remaining grandparents has helped with this, though I miss those larger family gettogethers dearly.

Congrats Isg!

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

Been a while since I weighed since I knew I had gained some back. Getting back with the ex-wife and going out more, drinking and eating did it. Started back this week walking and eating better.
