After my weight plateaued for most of the last month, I'm excited to finally record a 20lb+ weight loss since March! I've walked 14 out of the past 19 days (remarkable for me). It's not particularly strenuous, but my body's just waking up. Shin splints have become an issue in the past week, but I rested for a day and am otherwise taking it easy.
Not too sure why my weight plateaued earlier in the month. I'm not tracking calories, and I know my portions are still excessive sometimes. But I've become more mindful of what I eat and have definitely been cutting back and making better choices. My probably 1l-a-day soda/juice habit has changed to an average of maybe one full-sugar drink every other day. I've switched almost all my drinks to sugar substitutes despite hating it at first. Mostly Fresca, sugar-free and half-sugar Gatorade (50 kcal per 591ml), and hot tea. I drink a lot of water too, but I need beverage variety as a mental reward and to reduce hunger cravings. I've been buying a lot of pre-cut/washed finger veggies... not exactly cost effective, but it's meeting me in the middle of my effort level. Some boiled eggs, and I mean to eat more canned fish. The cannabis munchies continue to be a major adversary. It would be a lot easier if my wife joined me on this quest, but her mental illness is getting in the way and she's quite stubborn. All I can do is keep asking, and try not to bring as much unhealthy food into the house that she doesn't ask for.
I was reading about alternate-day fasting (still consuming 500kcal on fast days). It's suggested it's no more productive than general calorie reduction, though it may have a few benefits. And if I'm combining it with calorie reduction on the other days, bonus? Not sure if I really have the willpower for it. I was considering just doing it two or three days a week to start. OMAD (one meal a day) is something I was also interested in at one point, though it's not considered as safe. Or maybe I'll just stick with general calorie reduction and have small snacks/meals earlier in the day.
