Well there's the correction I expected. A bit disappointing, but not surprising given an Easter feast weekend with a lot of desserts. Hopefully I can get back on the wagon this week.

I've been all over the damn place during the last couple weeks. Everywhere from over 207 for the first time since January (207.2 last Tuesday) to under 203 for the first time ever (202.8 last Friday). Back up to over 205 yesterday.

Guess I'll just keep running and trying to cut out the sweets and hope it levels out at some point.

I really thought I had sabotaged my entire weight loss this past week. I was sick (non-Covid, but extreme fatigue), and wound up basically not exercising for a week. This week was bookended by Easter weekend treats and a trip out of town where I ate terribly. How I managed to escape this disaster without completely blowing it, I don't know (and I still expect it may catch up to me). However, I'm back on track this week so hopefully I can reverse the recent trend.

It's been a somewhat discouraging month. April is the first month since I started tracking my daily weight (last June) where my average weight is higher than the previous month. Not by a ton, mind you (205.6 last month, 206.4 this month), but it's definitely going in the wrong direction. Most of that is diet, as I've had a number of big family dinners and a couple work lunches that are not doing me any favors. I'm pretty much back to where I started in January. :(

On the plus side, three co-workers who I hadn't seen since the pandemic started commented how "skinny" I now am (I'm down just under 30 lbs since I saw them last). Progress?

I knew this week was going to be a backslide - I haven't been keeping up with steps properly, and my jog walks decreased in intensity. Meanwhile I wasn't eating great. I'm signed up for a 10K step challenge at work for May, however, so I've got some accountability this month. The last three weeks have certainly proven that I can't "get away" with slacking off.

Yesterday was a national holiday so I slept in and didn't do my usual Monday morning weight in right after waking up. It's nice to see some movement. Not a lot compared to some of you but I'll take it.

Just realized I forgot to weigh in this week, so I'll just pick things back up on Monday. My wife and I bought a rowing machine for our anniversary, so I've been hitting that 30 minutes a day in addition to my run/walks. We'll see if that gets me over that 195 hump.

Big gain over the last two weeks, and I'm REALLY hoping it's muscle weight. I've been hitting the rower 30 mins a day religiously since I got it a couple of weeks ago, but in contrast my eating hasn't been great.

I can't complain. Both Sat. and the Sat. before that involved parties with too much alcohol and too much food. Plus it is the end of the semester so I've been sitting more in my classroom instead of moving around while teaching. The flip side is that we held graduation and I felt that my jacket fit much better then it did previously which is a nice sign that I have at least managed to move some of the weight from my belly into my arms and legs.

The yo-yoing continues - this week I've been all over the place, but so has my eating. I'm back on track this week with some healthy lunch options, though, so hopefully I'll start stabilizing. The important thing is I've been hitting the rower at least 30 minutes 6x a week in addition to 30 min walks/runs, so I'm feeling good.

Finally broke the 10 pound barrier, in large part due to the Covid diet. It wasn't that I lost my appetite - quite the contrary, I was starving all the time. I think your body is just burning calories like mad fighting the stuff. At any rate, I expect a modest uptick of a pound or so next week as I get back into running and rowing.

It wasn't that many years ago that all I had to do to lose weight was eat less. Now I've been walking 3-4 miles most days at varying rates of speed, eating more healthily (which implies eating less and better), and am regularly doing light light labor, such as keeping up regularly with yard work, something I have not done in quite some time. I've been up to speed on the walking for over a month and was working up my current pace for the month before that. And here I still sit at 250+ pounds (251-254 up and down)

I may go back to obsessive calorie counting but I this time I want the physical activity and the better eating habits to stick before absolutively positlutely not going above 1800 - 2000 calories a day for 6 of the 7 days a week. (I think I'm actually already there but my monitoring has been ball park, not obsessive) I assume calorie counting will work, as I went from 250 to 235 during the height of COVID stay at home (About three months in) when my diet was pretty much down to rice, eggs, potatoes, and that last of my canned goods... And I developed another kidney stone... I really don't want to give up cheese again. I think I do have to exorcise cookies and salty snacks from my house, no matter how well I believe I am moderating them. That'll suck. (both because they're cheap and I have sweet and salty teeth) At least yogurt is like a dessert, though a lot less so when I pack it half and half with oats.

If I can ever start trending, I may actually join these threads again. Ally'all that have stuck with this as a durable lifestyle  .

Also, I've learned I can't do salad for lunch 5 days a week, which kinda sucks because when I buy salad type produce, that's about how much salad it makes for one person and about how long expect the produce to stay good.

The calories-in, calories-out concept is tragically flawed
Weight loss, the study found, is all about our hormonal response to certain macronutrients.
...
Essentially, the energy-balance model promotes the continuation of rapid fat storage, increases hunger and cravings and lowers overall metabolism. A dietary recipe for disaster. In addition to obesity, a rise in the risk of heart disease and Type 2 diabetes also occurs. Perhaps more significantly however, the model suggests something that science does not support — that quantity of food is preferred over quality.
Also, Calorie counts are all wrong
We calculate the available energy in all foods with a unit known as the food calorie, or kilocalorie—the amount of energy required to heat one kilogram of water by one degree Celsius. Fats provide approximately nine calories per gram, whereas carbohydrates and proteins deliver just four. Fiber offers a piddling two calories because enzymes in the human digestive tract have great difficulty chopping it up into smaller molecules.

Every calorie count on every food label you have ever seen is based on these estimates or on modest derivations thereof. Yet these approximations assume that the 19th-century laboratory experiments on which they are based accurately reflect how much energy different people with different bodies derive from many different kinds of food. New research has revealed that this assumption is, at best, far too simplistic.
I don't buy the extreme conclusion that calorie counting is worthless; it at least gives one an idea of which foods are relatively more fattening. But, as these two stories taken together will explain, "obsessive calorie counting" won't lead to weight loss by itself because the seemingly precise numbers are anything but.

Calorie counting might help when combined with the steps you're already taking to eat healthier and be more active, though, so I'm not saying don't waste your time.

Thank you for the clap but I think you deserve it just as much for managing to lose weight during the height of Covid.

I'm right there with you on salads. I like them but, unfortunately, I burn out on them really quickly. Which wouldn't be so bad except that I could eat a sandwich every day at lunch with more or less the same ingredients. Bread simply beats lettuce!

Same. I can do lightly flavored oatmeal every day for breakfast (though I'm switching to yogurt) and a simple sandwich every day for lunch. I thought food didn't matter and I could just switch to salad. I had been eating the same food nearly every day for years and variety had never mattered. I was wrong.

Goal: 200 lbs
Miles Run this year: 263

Not sure how, but I somehow managed to get through gorging myself on a 10-day vacation (and only running twice) with a 1/2-pound weight loss. We did walk a ton through amusement parks, water parks, hikes, and aquariums though, so I'm sure that helped.

The vacation did put me about 2 miles behind pace on my 150 mile run through The Shire though, so I'll have some ground to make up there.
