But seriously.
The only game on TV, with AR seemingly vulnerable this year; I bet just about every Detroit, Minn., and Chicago fan will tune into that game. There is blood in the water.

But seriously.
And also the Pats fans among us.Unagi wrote:Let’s all just give the Bears a moment of silence for the game ahead.

Are you hitting on me?El Guapo wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 11:38 am That game last night was something of a mild disaster for the Patriots season. Going in the Patriots had won two in a row, and while they were against less than solid opponents they were strong wins. Last night was a chance to have a winning record for the first time this season, get into a three game win streak, and put Belichick over Salas in terms of all time wins. ONLY - they got blown out by the freaking Bears at home, and their defense (the strongest part of the team this season) got torched by Justin Fields. And on top of that, Mac Jones returned, but after two three and outs and then an admittedly dumb pick (on which the Bears defender made a great play) was taken out in favor of Zappe.
So a big loss to a team that they were expected to beat, at home, and now they have a legit QB controversy on their hands. What a mess.
What I really don't understand is how they handled Jones. Yeah, he wasn't playing great for the most part (though he did seem to start hitting his stride on the third drive before the threw the pick). But if you don't have enough confidence in him to even let him finish the the first quarter...why are you putting him out there at all?
I’m with you. I have to grudgingly admit respect for Belichek’s genius, but I don’t get what he’s doing with Jones and Zappe right now. I thought Jones was playing ok for his first game back. He was moving well in the pocket and avoiding the rush. He even stepped up and scrambled for some decent gains a couple of times. The pick was more of a great play by the Bears corner. Not a great throw, but not an awful one either.El Guapo wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 11:38 am What I really don't understand is how they handled Jones. The announcers did say before Jones was pulled that Belichick had said that he planned to use both QBs during the game. So maybe it was at least partly planned. But man...so bizarre. Just feels like the adults aren't in charge in Foxboro.Kurth wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 12:17 pmI’m with you. So why give him the hook so quickly? In the post-game interview, he confirmed it wasn’t a medical decision and that his plan all along was to play both QBs. But you know what they always say . . . If you think you have two starters at QB, you really have none.
Not looking good for the Pats. Sad. [not really: ]
He was the worst thing to happen to the Lions since Matt Millen and literally resulted in setting the organization back 15 years, with Campbell/Holmes being analogous to what Mayhew/Schwartz had to do with organizational cleanup. He was yet another curse New England gifted to Detroit while Dan Quinn handed over so many assets. I'm glad he's not suddenly excellent after setting fire to the organization Quinn doused with gas. It's not even so bad that the Ford's are paying for his salary someplace that isn't here. It's just a bonus that the garbage is going to the place that it belongs.
That was our question. Locally, the fans very quickly came the conclusion he had always been that bad but was given no latitude by Belichick to show it and had Brady's offense to overlook how bad he was at defense. For being defensive minded, he managed to put together the worst defense while actively and purposely chasing the best players away, demanding an irrational sense of loyal discipline concurrent with not planning and playing to the actually strengths of his players and showing them no courtesy of respect. He was a cancer to the field and the locker room and he hit the ground running. Other teams picked apart his game and he never adjusted. He and Quinn were always letting you know they were the smartest guy in the room and they backed it by
Indeed. This may have been inevitable though. By all accounts he lived for football. Hard to get someone like that off the field unless and until they are forced to.
Yeah, as much as I agree that if you want to perfectly time things at the peak a la Seinfeld, I suggest that 1. That is likely VERY hard to do and 2. he may look 5 years out and think "what will I *DO*?! Football is life!"
I've never experienced that either. Or being married to a Brazilian supermodel whose net worth is nearly double mine.Carpet_pissr wrote: ↑Fri Oct 28, 2022 7:26 pmYeah, as much as I agree that if you want to perfectly time things at the peak a la Seinfeld, I suggest that 1. I've never experienced being so good at and loving something so much that you do for a career, but that cannot be easy.
Also like, it's a sharp drop off. In hindsight he should've actually retired after last season, but...he was playing very well. Hard to say that he needed to at that point.Carpet_pissr wrote: ↑Fri Oct 28, 2022 7:26 pmYeah, as much as I agree that if you want to perfectly time things at the peak a la Seinfeld, I suggest that 1. Has anyone retired between training camp and the regular season?
