Holy wow, the replies on this tweet... Specifically, the number of people who apparently believe that when a clock hits 0, that's 0.9...

NBC Sports, 2018
“The back judge is responsible for keeping track of the play clock,” NFL spokesman Michael Signora told PFT via email. “Officiating mechanics dictate that once the back judge sees the play clock expire, he then looks immediately to the ball. If it is being snapped, then there is no foul for delay of game.”

So even if the back judge is locked onto the play clock, the flag doesn’t come out simply because the play clock gets to zero. He still must then look to the center to see if the ball was snapped.
...
It’s a process that applies to every offense, on every team. And if the NFL wants to change it, the NFL should require the back judge to essentially hold the flag in air and insert whistle in mouth as the clock gets under five seconds. Better yet, whether the snap came before the play clock struck zero could be subject to replay review.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

As much as I'd want to, the Lions strength has been in their OLine (who'd ever thunk? Finally!) but...

The Lions are looking pretty good. Those 4th down conversions are everything for them - so it's precarious.

Also, Bill Cowher's outfit is invoking the spirit of Ralph Furley, to me.

What's this? The Chargers score a TD in the waning seconds to keep their wildcard hopes alive? That two point conversion may have just saved Staley's job.

I was shocked at the line, given that the Bills were unable to practice more than once in the 10 days preceding the game, and it was on a short week on the road, after an unexpected road game, against an unfamiliar opponent, with a shit ton of starters out, and the Stallion’s elbow compromised.

And despite all of this, and more injuries incurred in the Lions game, they are favored by 5.5 on the road against the Pats?

My first instinct, without really knowing the extent of the injuries on the Bills, is that them being favored by 5.5 isn't unreasonable, given that this Patriots team really isn't all that great. One caveat on that being that in the last game vs. the Vikings the Patriots offense finally came to life (and Mac Jones turned in his first good game of the season). Was that an aberration from the offense, or have the Patriots managed somehow to right the ship on offense?

I never know. Right now we are down our down:

DE1 (Miller)
DE2 (Rousseau) - might play
DE3 (Epenesa)
MLB1 (Edmunds) - might play
CB1 (White) - might be full go
FS1 (Hyde)
SS1 (Poyer) - sick
C1 (Morse)
LT (Dawkins)
RG (Bates)
WR4 (Crowder)
WR5 (Kumerow)

We had 11 players miss practice yesterday due to illness.

Every game day it feels like we are playing roster roulette. And Bills fans are crabby that they didn’t look dominant in their last two wins. They haven’t been able to practice for almost two weeks (until yesterday.

It’s a miracle they beat CLE and DET.

I don't expect the Texans to win or even be competitive against the Browns. My one hope is that Watson suffers a minor groin pull. I want to hear the announcers try to deal with that. Is the groin slowing him down? Will he need treatment? He's trying to keep warm, stay loose. The training staff is very concerned about his groin. He's been in the blue tent a long time.

On a more serious note, I believe there will be protests outside the stadium.

I can only imagine the scrutiny the potential top QB's in the draft will be under. Teams always talk about drafting 'character' guys, but the Texans really need one. Everyone thought that Watson was a high character guy. Hopefully, he's learned from his therapy and will turn things around.

Hey Ken, is DeMeco Ryans ready to be a head coach? We may need one sooner than expected.

I have not watched enough Patriots games to realize their offense was that putrid. Really could have used that 41-yard TD pass to Diggs though. And I'm still a little steamed about the safety getting ejected. Like, I understand that by the rules that's probably a flag, but the man's job is to stop that TD, so you gotta stop that TD. I dunno. Insta-ejection just didn't seem to match anything I've seen in games this year.

That was a pretty bad hit, but probably did not warrant ejection.

BTW, thanks to the Bills for elevating the Chargers to the top of the "In the Hunt" teams.

Edit: If the Chargers can somehow get past the Raiders, you have the 7-4 teams:

Jets at Vikings

Titans at Eagles

Chiefs at Bengals

All lose-able games.

The hit was certainly unpleasant, and as soon as I saw/heard it, I knew the flag was coming. Just surprised at the ejection. Minkah does that like three times a game and doesn’t get ejected. :)
