Re: NFL 2022 Season
Heard about that bet yesterday. Insanely dumb.
Put in perspective, that's like betting $1,400 to with a possible net of $11.20. Yeah it's almost a sure thing but the risk isn't' worth the reward.
I made a similar bet but all I did was turn off the game at 27-0. I risked missing a great comeback vs getting a few hours of my day back. I'm OK with that.
Hope Floyd Mayweather or WSB guy or whoever is OK with losing $1.4M.

Our Defense Coordinator is interviewing with 4 different teams rather than focusing on the playoffs. I really wish the NFL will ban interviews until after superbowl.

I've seen this movie before. Wonder what I would have won putting $1k on the Chargers to lose when they were up 27-0.LawBeefaroni wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 2:11 pm Heard about that bet yesterday. Insanely dumb.

Re: NFL 2022 Season
My favorite clip of the game so far is Brady throwing a pass four 3 yards short then yelling at his receiver for not catching it.
But 4 missed extra points is a close second.

I am mesmerized by the Cowboys kicker's funk. Extra points are must-see-TV at this point.

That's nothing. Try hitting the post 4 times for 4 misses in one game. And then 2 posts on one kick for a miss in the playoffs.

Re: NFL 2022 Season
My heart desperately wants Buffalo, but my head says Cincinnati. I did not in any way like what I saw from the Bills defense for the brief time we got to see them a few weeks ago against that passing attack.
If Von Miller was playing? Then I think the OL issues for the Bengals may betray them. This game will need a good defensive effort, and 2021 Playoff Josh. Not sure I will get either.

Well he's slowly drifting out of range

cowboy fans chanting we want niners last night at the game. Be careful what you wish for. I don't think the niners will blow them out, but with Dak liking to throw INT's, it's going to be tough for him.

Remind him/her that they lost to The Bears. The historically bad Bears. I have a FB friend (former vendor at a job I had more than 20 years ago), she lives in SF and I told her the same thing -- The Bears were expected to be generationally bad, but that wasn't enough -- they reached for historically bad and achieved this lofty level of crapitude. But they beat the miserable 49'ers.

Re: NFL 2022 Season
If it was actually a game of football we beat them at, it would be a good point. Unfortunately, IIRC, that was a comical game of mishap by way of epic rainstorm. The Tractor will beat the Performance Vehicle every time in that situation.Jeff V wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 12:49 amRemind him/her that they lost to The Bears. The historically bad Bears. Also, and more seriously, that wasn’t the same 49ers team as we have here now.

Are you suggesting The Bears somehow are immune to rain? Weather conditions as a factor cancel each other out. They simply were not good enough to win.

I believe severe weather conditions 'level the playing field' and change the game away from 'skill' and toward 'luck'.
You are the one suggesting that the Bears are better than the 49ers...

No, I'm suggesting SF is not that good. Were the Bears lucky that it was somehow less shitty when they had the ball?

Re: NFL 2022 Season
You are suggesting the results of that game were about the skill of the teams that played.
I am saying, clearly, the results of that game were not about the skill of the teams that played.
Also, September 10th isn't the same as January 22nd... so even if that game was about skill of the teams - it would be hard to look at this season and hang one's luck on the results of that Week 1 game.

one game (mind you it was anyone's game with that weather) makes you think the 49ers are not that good? Have you been working uber on Sundays where you've missed that last 11 games?

Re: NFL 2022 Season
Again, the Bears are historically bad, and they have the longest history of any team in the league. Anyone who lost to them can't possibly be any good!

It would be interesting to compile the list of the worst teams ever lost to by an eventual Super Bowl champion.

Re: NFL 2022 Season
When the 49ers played the Bears in week 1, Trey Lance was QB, the Niners hadn't traded for McCaffery, and George Kittle was out injured.
To say what happened in week 1 makes the 49ers terrible is hilariously bad.

Re: NFL 2022 Season
I get that Jeff V is being silly with his argument, I just found it “too silly” to make that argument to his friend in earnest, which I believe he did.
“Don’t worry about the 49ers, they lost to the Bears” is a horribly weak salve to someone worried about the game.
