The Trubisky era is off and running in Pittsburgh. He was gifted with 27 turnovers in the first half but only leads by 9. Any chance the Bears can get him back for 6 or 7 draft picks?

Terrible timeout call by Tomlin, gave the Bengals a chance to reset. Reminiscent of the Chargers debacle versus the Raiders last season.

Reprieved by a blocked extra point.

I was just about to board my flight home from LA and I saw the Niners go up 7-0, and outgaining Chicago like 140-23, landed and it was - 13-10 bears when I checked my phone.

Got into the airport on the way to the pickup and it was 19-10. Ah well. Growing pains for Lance, esp without Kittle I guess.

Niners D is getting a bit worrisome with all of these fourth quarter collapses tho. Closing out games has been pretty sketchy every since the super bowl loss.

Congrats Chicago!

Chargers stay true to their usual recipe for disaster: Get a lead, go conservative on offense, and rely on their defense to hold the lead. Finally worked for once. Once.

The Steelers won. But at a huge cost. I thought the next three games were winnable. Not so much if the Steelers stars are missing time.

Losing Watt is brutal. Torn pec feels like a season ended for him, no? Any word on Najee?

I’m assuming it’s a season ending injury for Watt, but I haven’t seen anything official. Supposedly Najee has an ankle injury that the team doesn’t think is serious.

In other news, I invited my step brother over to watch the afternoon games and chow down on some beer and pulled pork that I was smoking. Except, the pork is still cooking at 8:20…

So instead of some good bbq, he was served hot dogs pulled out of the freezer before he had to take the kids home.

Ya gotta start earlier than you think with pork shoulder. The beautiful thing about is that if it's done early you can wrap it and keep it warm until you are ready to serve. It also reabsorbs the liquid making it even more juicy.

I thought I knew that! I knew that bigger pork shoulders take really long, but this one was only 4.5 pounds and some of the recipes I saw called for 1.5-2 hrs of cook time per pound. I thought I would be fine getting it on the smoker at 8am in order to eat by 6-7.

Lessons learned for next time.

It was delicious though, once my wife and I finally got to dig into it.

Ya that seems long. What temp?

I did a 8.5 shoulder and it took 17 hours at 225

I had it on at 225 for about 9 hours to start. The internal temp was only 165, so I wrapped it in aluminum foil and put it in my oven at 250 where it cooked for another 2 hours before getting up to temp.

It was delicious though once it finally finished.

Ya that's probably the issue. Wrapping slows down and butts and briskets go through a stall between 170 -180 degrees. After that stops it should start rising. I wouldn't wrap a butt but would a brisket mainly due to thickness

One thing I've read is that Matt Patricia and Joe Judge are currently being paid by the teams that they've been fired from, but apparently that would be voided by officially naming them as coordinators. So by not naming either as OC, they save money.

Though that doesn't really explain why you would be relying on two fired people who have never coached on offense to act as OC, regardless of whether you're saving money.

Yeah, the issue isn’t that they are called the offensive coordinator, the issue is that they are performing the duties of the offensive coordinator, and they are grossly unqualified to do so. That’s the part I don’t get. Why would you put the development of your young QB in the hand of Matt friggin’ Patricia and/or Joe goddamn Judge?

Two horrible calls on that drive... :handgestures-thumbdown: That kicker the Browns drafted is insane though. I wouldn't bet against him breaking the distance record this year.

Yeah, WTF was he thinking? If they run a play no time to get field goal team out. My read is he didn't figure that out until after the ball was snapped.

The bears had the best penalty. The place kicker for the FG team took his towel and tried to dry off the field :D Got called for unsportsmanship and went from a FG to a punt :D

Not sure if the refs were right, but they said it was a no call because he fake spiked, but then actually did spike without trying to throw it. My guess is it's a good no call as the rules are written, but still weird and probably an unintended outcome of the rule.

Lingering guilt over crushing the dreams of other AFC East teams for the better part of two decades?

I also read yesterday that apparently they were considering bringing back Bill O'Brien as OC, but Belichick was apparently worried that he wouldn't be able to keep him for more than a year.

ESPN
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said he is expected to have surgery Monday on his right thumb after he was injured in the season-opening 19-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday night. He is expected to miss 6-8 weeks and the injury will likely land him on injured reserve, according to multiple sources.

Prescott was injured in the fourth quarter when he hit the hand of outside linebacker Shaq Barrett while throwing a pass. Prescott will meet with the Cowboys' hand specialist Monday but, according to multiple sources, he will have a pin and plate inserted into the area to stabilize the joint.

Prescott said he initially thought he jammed a finger and didn't believe it was serious. But he went to the locker room for X-rays, which showed a fracture.
...
The Cowboys will go with Cooper Rush as their starting quarterback beginning next week against the Cincinnati Bengals. Will Grier is the team's No. 3 quarterback and he's currently on the practice squad.
