Yeah, WTF was he thinking? If they run a play no time to get field goal team out. My read is he didn't figure that out until after the ball was snapped.
Not sure if the refs were right, but they said it was a no call because he fake spiked, but then actually did spike without trying to throw it. My guess is it's a good no call as the rules are written, but still weird and probably an unintended outcome of the rule.
It was not a good call the way the rules are written:
Item 3. Stopping Clock. A player under center is permitted to stop
the game clock legally to save time if, immediately upon receiving the
snap, he begins a continuous throwing motion and throws the ball
directly into the ground.
Item 4. Delayed Spike. A passer, after delaying his passing action for
strategic purposes, is prohibited from throwing the ball to the ground
in front of him, even though he is under no pressure from defensive
rusher(s).
If you watch closely, you can see Brisset peek out toward Cooper to see if he's being covered, which is why he does the double-take.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said he is expected to have surgery Monday on his right thumb after he was injured in the season-opening 19-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday night. He is expected to miss 6-8 weeks and the injury will likely land him on injured reserve, according to multiple sources.
Prescott was injured in the fourth quarter when he hit the hand of outside linebacker Shaq Barrett while throwing a pass. Prescott will meet with the Cowboys' hand specialist Monday but, according to multiple sources, he will have a pin and plate inserted into the area to stabilize the joint.
Prescott said he initially thought he jammed a finger and didn't believe it was serious. But he went to the locker room for X-rays, which showed a fracture.

Eh, I think Lance will be fine (I'm perfectly ok blaming this loss on the weather, tho I do have questions about Lance - he never seemed to start strong last year, but did play well in the 2nd half of games), and if he isn't the guy this year, then by the time we make the change, we're likely to be out of it. I'd deal Jimmy G if we got a 2nd rounder or better - we only have him on a 1 year deal, after all.

Oh I'm not saying that due to yesterdays game. Jimmy would have the same result and more than likely more sacks. I'm saying they essentially have to rookie QB's and losing that safety net is a huge risk.
Yah, but safety nets are for contenders. IMHO, if Sudfeld isn't on a practice squad (not sure if he made the full Detroit roster or not), I could see the Niners signing Rosen (who has familiarity with the system) if they trade Jimmy G and Lance gets injured.

Holy Cow, these Seahawks uniforms are just - well - they are veryUniversity of Oregon reminiscent. I have to imagine there is a very interesting psychological strategy at play in this.

Looking forward to the FIRST PLACE Bears playing the LAST PLACE Packers next week. Was also amused by Geno Fucking Smith beating the Broncos.
Packers are favored by 10
And in what universe are the Pats favored by 1.5 at the Steelers? Sure, Watt is out, but oh that NE offense.

Before we get too far into the season, I thought it would be interesting to do some picks. Mine are below in bold. Usually when I can't decide I choose the team I hate more. Uncannily accurate.
(Mentally picked Rams) Loss
Saints at Falcons Loss 49ers at Bears Loss
Steelers at Bengals Loss Eagles at Lions Win Pats at Dolphins Loss Ravens at Jets Win
Jags at Commodores Win Browns at Panthers Win Colts at Texans Push
Giants at Titans Loss Packers at Vikings Loss Chiefs at Cardinals Win Raiders at Chargers Loss Bucs at Cowboys Win Broncos at Seahawks Loss
So I went 6-9, worse than a monkey could do. Only week one, but I feel a disturbance in the Schwartz.

Maybe the line setters do not buy into Trubisky-mania?
Otherwise, I don't really know...I'm not especially optimistic.

The Steelers d forced 5 turnovers with a pick-6 and they only scored 23 points. They managed 5 fewer yards than the Pats did, despite playing an extra quarter.
I thought the Steelers would lose week 1 but have a chance to win their next three games (Pats, Browns, and Jets). Now... not so much.

I think the Niners were taking a big gamble when they took Lance who only had one season as a starter for the Bison where they won every game but two by multiple TDs. A season where the Bison were never in danger of a loss and Lance had only one game with 300+ yards. He's almost completely untested. They took a big gamble on him.
Purdy, by contrast has been tested. He started for Iowa State for 3 and a half years. He let the big 12 multiple times in multiple categories. He played tough D1 opponents and had close games. He doesn't have much NFL experience but he has 4 years playing QB in the big 12.
Neither has the same experience as Jimmy G so I understand what you're saying but I think Purdy could step in and play fairly well.

The thought is more that the Niners would need another backup if they trade Jimmy G in case Lance gets hurt. Note that Lance played well in the second half of both games he started last year. Not fantastic, but well.
Did they give up too much to get an unproven FCS qb? Probably, but given Jimmy G has had serious issues starting healthy, they needed to do something and ALL of the Niners Brass were on board with the decision, had him as the top prospect, and have (had?) confidence that Shanahan could mold him with all the talent he shows.
For now, this is week one overreacting. Check back after week 4. It's not as if ANY of the other 2021 qb's picked dramatically outplayed him this weekend. Fields won in the same weather, but was far worse overall. Mac Jones was awful, Wilson didn't play, Lawrence was a bit better, but not by much, with no weather issues.

Well, after owning them for decades, the Packers have pretty much turned the tables since Favre. The Bears record against Rodgers is abysmal. And I'm so conflicted -- I had to take Rodgers as my fantasy QB, but would like nothing more to see him reprise his shitty game against the Vikings last week.
Chargers at Chiefs
Jets at Browns
Commanders at Lions Bucs at Saints Panthers at Giants
Pats at Steelers Colts at Jags
Dolphins at Ravens
Falcons at Rams
Seahawks at 49ers Bengals at Cowboys
Texans at Broncos
Cards at Raiders
Bears at Packers
Titans at Bills Vikings at Eagles
Apparently if you want to use DVR features during the Amazon TNF game, you have to go the game page and tell it to record before the game starts. I thought some people might like a heads up.
After suffering a season-ending right ankle injury against the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance is already on the road to recovery.
A day after their 27-7 win against the Seahawks, the Niners announced that Lance had "successful surgery on his injured right ankle." The procedure took place Monday morning at Stanford Hospital and, according to a statement from the team, repaired two injuries to Lance's ankle: "a fibula fracture and ligament disruption."

I’d wait for the final injury report on this one. Bills defense might be missing three of their top 4 DTs, and their *entire* starting secondary (top two CBs and top two Safeties).
