Wordle 211 5/6
This is why I don't get hung up on my # of steps. I mean, it's nice & cool when I get it in less, but I'm happy with just the goal of solving it each day.
(That 2 step solve though was impressive!)

Re: Wordle
I'm humbled by some of you getting the answer in 2!!!
Today:
Wordle 211 3/6
My "strategy" is probably good for solving the puzzle (not on hard) but doesn't lend itself to anything resembling brilliance.
The most interesting thing to me right now is your thought processes. Why you choose the words you do and how you interpret your clues.

Re: Wordle
Wordle 211 3/6
My only "strategy" has been starting with a heavy consonant word. Since there are way fewer vowels than consonants, I figure it's important to try to get those guessed first. I think it's worked well for me; I've played 8 times and guessed it in 3 tries 5 times, 2 tries once, and then 4 and 6 tries the other two times.

Re: Wordle
I started with trying to pick high frequency consonants and three vowels. Irate was my go to word. Then I decided to go for a new word each day, trying to pick a common five letter word with a few semi-rare consonants (L,B,P,M,N, etc..), two vowels, preferably wholly unlike the previous day solution. I try not to choose a word that is pre=fixed/suffixed into a five letter word or use consonants or use uber common consonant combinations. It just feels right after playing for a week. In this tiny sample size all of the words have been common words and haven't things like star-s or tak-en or mix-ed.Bad Demographic wrote: βSun Jan 16, 2022 1:20 pm The most interesting thing to me right now is your thought processes. I started ditching the S, R, T, C as core to my opening try because I get locked into a way of thinking and end up either going to crazy uncommon words to fit a mold I hit a 3 letter in the opening salvo and then just plug in two new letter as a arrange the three until I hit six tried and lose.

Re: Wordle
I don't see it as cheaty at all. I see guesses as currency. Each can be used to make a real guess, or it can be used to get better clues. The more clues you get, the fewer chances you get to use them. The fewer mistakes you can make. It's a trade off, and my strategy comes with a cost (fewer guesses.) Imagine if someone figured out a way to use five words to get 25 different letters. They'd end up with every letter - and they'd get one shot at using them. And that makes it a gamble, too. I cover more common letters early on, but if a day's word doesn't use those letters, say... BUGGY. I'd be stuck with no confirmed letters and fewer guesses.

Re: Wordle
Seems like "audio" would be a good starting word since it basically tests all the vowels (if the puzzle only has one of these vowels, try something with "e" in guess #2).

Re: Wordle
I know a lot of people start with audio or adieu to hit as many vowels as possible.
And in banks across the world
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range

Re: Wordle
Wow - audio and adieu are great starting choices, they never occurred to me. But, like MHS, I like to start with mostly consonants, especially common ones. Thus "stern" as my go to starting word.

Re: Wordle
I never would have guessed adieu because it's not an English word. What are the limits on non-English vocabulary in Wordle?
Also, to double-down on my earlier question: is there a way to play puzzles from previous days?

To be fair, it's a non-English word that's used in English speech.

Yep, that one got me too. And I found that there is a record on the menu page, but at least there aren't any summaries and bar graphs to show how badly it's going, as far as I've seen so far.

Re: Wordle
I disagree.
"Champagne" and "encore" and "avant-garde" are French words that have been incorporated into English.
"Adieu" is a French word we use to sound French.
