I disagree.

"Champagne" and "encore" and "avant-garde" are French words that have been incorporated into English.

"Adieu" is a French word we use to sound French.

I agree.
Adieu is like me saying ‘Adios amigos’ (as a non Hispanic / non Spanish speaker) …. Not like me saying chauffeur or limousine…

shire actually came to me on the third guess but this went against me thought of common words. Shire is only a household word because every had seen Lord of the Rings.

I've been using variations on STRIP (STRAP, PARTS, PORTS, etc) to get four of the most common consonants down first. Depending on the result, I'll try to use L, M, N, H, or C plus a different vowel in the next word. If I can nail down 2-3 consonants the vowels fall into place easily enough.

I go with a hybrid vowel/consonant approach - so EARTH or LEARN. It may not be the most efficient, but I'm 11/11 so I'm afraid to fix what's working.

Early on I was using ADIEU, but then I found out how popular it was. The last couple of days I've been using two: SONIC and RATED. That gets me the top 8, plus 11 and 12. I could probably tweak that a little if I wasn't lazy.

Only got this one because I was able to basically just throw random "I don't think this is even a word" guesses going though all the remaining letters until I got to the 4th letter in the word and it finally hit me.
