RIP Ronnie Spector

Post by Daehawk »

Ronnie Spector, lead singer of The Ronettes, dead at 78
Ronnie Spector, the swaggering 1960s pop icon with the sky-high beehive whose sultry, quavering voice powered numerous hits for The Ronettes, including "Be My Baby," has died, her family announced in a statement Wednesday.
She was 78.
"Our beloved earth angel, Ronnie, peacefully left this world today after a brief battle with cancer," the family said. "She was with family and in the arms of her husband, Jonathan. Ronnie lived her life with a twinkle in her eye, a spunky attitude, a wicked sense of humor and a smile on her face."

I just realized she sang on Eddie Money's Take Me Home Tonight.

Phil Spector really made her life hell. That man had some crazy talent, but goddamn, he was horrible.

Loved her on Eddie Money's Take Me Home Tonight. She made the song.

I really enjoyed her singing back in the olde days. RIP

Absolutely loved her. I'm a HUGE fan of girl groups, and The Ronnettes were at the top of that list. A Twitch vinyl radio guy I listen to did a tribute last night and played her first album which was a nice way to remember what a powerhouse singer and musical influencer she was.

That was my first known exposure to her - be like Ronnie sang be my little baby.

What a great voice and presence.

I knew her from long ago for I saw mommy kissing santa claus and of course Be my baby. I loved her group. To me it was more pop / hip than the supremes and lots of girl groups.

The next I heard of her was how Phil did her. Awful despicable little man. I then got to see new interviews and stuff of her in modern times because she'd been held out of the spotlight so long then didn't feel comfortable in the spotlight later.

Of course I heard Take Me Home Tonight about a million times but never put two and two together for a long time.

Rest well Ronnie. You deserved better and more.

Billboard
Zendaya will be taking on the role of Ronnie Spector in an upcoming film on the iconic singer’s life, according to Deadline.

Independent entertainment company A24 is teaming up with New Agency for the Marc Platt-produced film, which has closed deals for Spector’s life rights and for her memoir, Be My Baby, written with Vince Waldron.

Spector personally chose Zendaya to portray her, according to Deadline. A24 also produces Euphoria, and Zendaya at 24 years old recently became the youngest actress to win an Emmy lead actress in a drama series for her role as Rue in the popular HBO show.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Apparently uncredited too, according to a DJ on my local dinosaur rock station.

Interesting. I knew immediately who it was, seeing how she was mentioned in the lyrics.

Seriously, Between the actual lyrics and music video, I wonder how a few of you spent the 80s. Were you not glued to the MTV like I was? This was peak 1986

Eddie Money and Huey Lewis were everything in 1986!

RIP Ronnie

She’s credited in the lyrics themselves
